The giants were soft banned in the wc for a tournament and right now EVO has general rules which lets all giants be played but hey it could be change. well see
PTX is not a ‘bad’ character. The giants in TvC are still very legit and require a lot of work in order to play them properly, but PTX is a solid mid to mid-high tier character who does have ways to work around the bad matchups.

Surely I could create a convincing argument that running away with Storm the entire time in MvC2 is incredibly boring, detracts from the VS. experience and therefore should be banned. But I would be dead wrong.
And besides, it’s funny to watch Frank West throw a Giant. No need to ban them at all, there’s no real good basis. Plus of all the characters they are the most vulnerable to counter picking.

Those characters are on the character select screen in the Japanese arcade version, and were never ever banned. They are gimmick characters that play by different rules, but thats hardly a first for fighting games.
Banning something because you think its boring is anti-competitive. Can we ban Chun in 3s because she is boring? Get real, man. Learn to fight the giants. If you do, you will frustrate giant players to the point that they wont want to use them anymore anyway.

There’s the thing, if people came to you halfway through a non lowtier Marvel tournament and started complaining about Sentinel… would you ban him?
If you said yes to this question, then you should probably let someone else who’s more informed make the decisions. Giving in to whining is def not the best way to have your tournaments taken seriously. Changing the rules halfway through a tournament is shady as fuck too.
It has been brought to my attention that there’s another deal about these two giants in TvC. I posted this already in a TvC forums thread, and it’s should go without saying that I don’t need to change my mind about my view. These rules should be standard and applied to all tournaments (regardless of it being a one day tournament or a major such as EVO or Battlefield Arcadie XI):
I only softbanned giants in our very first UAS tournament that was held on the week of its release. THAT WAS IT; AFTERWARDS, GIANTS ARE LEGITIMATE TO USE IN ALL TOURNAMENTS THEREON. The last tournament we had this past Saturday, ll.nd used PTX-40A against JWong. ll.nd took out JWong’s Yatterman-1/Chun-Li, then JWong switched to Ryu/Tekkaman and took the game. Ryu doesn’t have many answers for giants, but he can still runaway with his hadoukens and super jumping. I DO EMPHASIZE THAT “WHENEVER YOU USE A GIANT, USE HIM AT YOUR OWN RISK”.
For some people it can be annoying for them. For me using the Tekkamen, it’s a free win (no disrespect to giant players, but it’s just too easy with that team to conquer giants)
I understand some characters suffer against giants, but it’s good know how handle these kinds of situations with characters you are comfortable using on two-character teams and giants.

And lets keep in mind that Justin also said on the record that Seth in SF4 should be banned, because he doesnt fit in with the rest of the game or some nonsense. We all know how that turned out.
Majority of the top players in SF4 believed that Seth should be banned if you wanted to state some type of statement that I am wrong.
So you do not think that a giant match is boring? Its all runaway. I play rushdown in TVC and if someone plays that giant, I have to 100% change that match the most boring and gayest style ever. I picked ryu/tekkaman. LOL Like I play that team.
Smashboards have their own rules, and their rules are more legit into fair play. Having items for smash at evo was so stupid and just divided the community.
3S chun is gdlk but it doesnt change the match like a giant match. I don’t know what match ups you know Keits but I def think your view about certain tiers are wrong. Just because a Giant isnt top tier that doesn’t mean they change the game. Obviously they do, If people can’t see that, then people are retarded.
The guy who commented on storm runaway in mvc2. Storm use to runaway like 3 years ago. She doesn’t run away like Xmen VS SF. Please watch recent 2k10 storm mvc2 vids, you’ll see alot more than building meter and just doing hail storm. If you have trouble with storm, pick captain commando and corridor her out of the sky. I do not care if Giants are banned or not. I said if it were up to me, I would ban them and I do not like them in the game because they make the game “boring”

Oh my gosh! Characters have unique advantages and disadvantages, and your opponents have to adjust to your characters to win! BAN! … I can’t believe what I’m hearing…
This is just a fundamental disagreement between us on what kind of voice a player should have. We are competitors. Its our job to try to win, not to put on an entertaining match. You disagree, and feel that if something isnt fun and/or changes the way you play, that it should be considered for a ban. If this way of thinking holds true, we probably need to really reevaluate our entire game lineup and all their rules. Hell, character specific combos are in dozens of games, and make you change what you have to do. Should we look at that too?
The bottom line is that the giants are unique, maybe too unique. But they have serious problems and most players serious about winning in TvC wont be playing them anyway (once you learn the matchup, and yes Chun/Jun can fight em).
If you really want to talk ‘how the game was meant to be played’, how can you compare something like the Giants (who are on the character select screen by default) to something like Roll Canceling in CvS2 (which we allowed and obviously was not intended by the developers)?
My final comment on this is that I really don’t think its right to place one person’s opinion of what is fun over someone elses, no matter how good they are. The fact is that some people enjoy playing as or fighting against the giants, so the only reasonable solution is to just play the game in front of you without allowing anyone’s opinion to remove anything from the game. This discussion is silly and im not happy it even exists, but like Seth and Gouken in Sf4, I’ll fight for whats most fair to everyone, and thats to play the game as is. Even if that means it drives people away from the game. People are going to learn these matchups and embaress anyone who picks the giants (and isnt dedicated) soon anyway.
Yes any team can win against Giants. Just dont press a button and run for 99 secs. That will be my strategy from now on. Awesome isn’t it? You always bring up something from another game. I hate roll canceling ill tell you that right now. I didn’t want it to be in tournament at all. I never ever and rarely do it. But it made cvs2 more fun to watch in the end. Some stupid glitches make the game fun. People love that shit. Thats why mvc2 is still in EVO.
But I guarantee that people would not enjoy watching someone fight against a Giant? No matter how bad they are or no matter how stupid they are, there can never be an exciting giant match unless its a giant vs a giant or a giant vs someone who thinks they can attack all day against a giant.

Yes your right about we are competitors and we gotta do what it takes to win. But things are changing. Its more about putting an entertaining match at a major tourney like EVO so more people can GET into it. Which is why certain games are not at EVO. Too boring, not too flashy, You want more people to be involved in the community not leave or not be interested into the community. That is my take on that situation.

I’d love to watch a giant match. Good entertainment value imo. It’s something different, spices things up. And you know the giant is gonna have to be really good too most of the time, to have a chance against a good player.

I think the general audience is going to be excited if someone attempts to use a giant in Evo.
Edit: If we’re going by entertainment value, might as well ban Sagat mirrors and… Well, if you open the gates of “boredom ban” just a bit, they’ll just keep opening wider and wider imo. There’ll always be some group of people who finds something boring, and in the end we’ll be stuck with Ryu only, FINAL DESTINATION!
We have to consider these boredom bans seriously, now. We can’t have people falling asleep in competitive matches! 
I wouldn’t worry too much about Giants in the finals, Justin; there’s too many obstacles and with the regular tournament format they can’t really advance past the counterpicking. Only a really damn good Giant player could get anywhere, and a good Giant player can actually be pretty hype.

So what you’re saying is that playstyles and strategies for characters change and evolve? And that the annoying tactics can even end up being phased out to the point where there’s less occurrences of it for people to bitch about? And that if someone is having trouble with a matchup, it can be as simple as changing their character selection to easily counter it? Oh ok, thanks.
