Both tekkaman and tekkaman blade beat up on giants really bad, but for a broad answer:
Anyone who has an armor break does well obviously. These include : any command grab, any super that turns into a cutscene, chains from tekkaman/blade/karas, and most of these things allow you to combo the giants afterwards like you would combo a normal character, potentially better because of their large hitboxes.
Second thing you can do is abuse baroque. All giant moves including normals do negligible chip damage, and as soon as you have this, you can attack for free with most characters and just baroque and block when they try to do something. This works particularly well with moves with invincibility. Ryu can basically DP>baroque>block most of the match against the giants and then mash out of grabs and win.
Well, as noted, every single lv3 super in the game works on the giants. Often, beating the giants is as simple as playing hit and run until you have lv3, and then landing it. To play more effective hit and run, keep the following in mind:
1.) Use air attacks, and double jump cancel them so you can block right away.
2.) Use multihitting attacks that slow the giants movement, and baroque it when the giant is about to attack. Baroque a lot to keep safe.
3.) Vs Lightan, dont do anything with any recovery on the ground, or he can nearly instantly super you.
4.) Giants grabs can be mashed out of on reaction, just be watching for them.
5.) Super Jump, Air dash, Double Jump, Air dash. Dont sit in the corner.
6.) Remember, the giant has one health bar and cannot heal. You have a partner and can tag out and heal while wasting time.
7.) Many characters have moves that break giant’s armor, use these wisely.
8.) Giant’s normals chip. Every time you block a giant’s attack, you can baroque again.
Character specific
Alex - Powerbomb works really well on both giants. Stungun works but is hard to land. Hyperbomb rapes. This should be all you need.
Batsu - Divekicks, Fireballs, and Baroque. Run away. His lv3 does even more damage if his partner is dead.
Casshan - C divekick breaks armor. Charged C denkou punch breaks armor. Both of these are very punishable, so be careful. B dog puts giants into a jugglable state.
Chun Li - Air mobility out the ass. Come down on top of giants with air down+B, and some lightning legs. Baroque for safety. Land your lv3. Smile.
Doronjo - Run away and drop Tonzura Rocks. Thats it. Save meter for your partner. Your lv3 is too slow.
Frank West - Better vs PTX than Lightan because he has to do everything from the ground. Command throw and super command throw work and lead to stupid juggles with the right assist.
Polimar - This is actually hard. He doesnt have much going for him in these matchups.
Joe the Condor - use your air machine gun and shuricans. Hit and run. Easy.
Jun - Illusion Swan and Illusion Swan Super break giant armor. Hit and run with yo yo whips as well.
Ippatsu - Hit and run with air baseballs. Lv3 is only good if the giant player doesnt know whats going on.
Karas - Chain works on giants. Baroqued C dragon punch can deal a lot of damage and keep you safe.
Ken the Eagle - Boomerangs and running away. His lv1 kick super works on them too.
Morrigan - Run and shoot fireballs. Hold your airdash so you fly farther. Get lv3 and super them and laugh.
Megaman Trigger - Run. Shoot. Jump. Shoot. Super Jump. Super Shoot. SO easy.
Roll - You are pretty fucked honestly. Try to build lv3 and hope to land it.
Ryu - Hit and run and look for lv3. Be careful where you throw your laggy ass fireballs or you’ll get punished.
Saki - Guns and grenades from the air, obviously, but also, load your lv1 unblockable shot into your gun and laugh because the giants are too big to avoid it. Free damage every time.
Soki - This is a hard one too. He doesnt have a lot going for him here.
Tekkaman - The Space Lariat whip works on the giants and lets you combo them like normal characters. His assist does it to. Tekkaman is THE giant killer.
Tekkaman Blade - The other giant killer. His B and C projectiles work on the giants, and as if that wasnt bad enough, his lv1 Crash super does too (and its mad fast). This match is very easy as well.
Viewtiful Joe - Runaway for free all day with superjump redhot kicks. Throw voomerangs at your leasure. Very easy match.
Yatterman 1 - Sonic boom motion whip thing works on giants. Otherwise, zone with projectile, hit and run, land lv3 and mash it for max damaage.
Yatterman 2 - Unsure here, she is new too, but it seems like building lv3 is smarter than summoning robot. Time will tell on this one.
Zero - Going to have to run, shoot air zero busters, and land his lv3.
You probably notice a trend here, and thats because beating giants is generally just that simple. Most giants players dont stick with it because of how hopeless fighting someone who knows how can feel.
If people think Sagat is broken they need to go play some 3s with Q against Chun
LOL I don’t ever remember playing your Sagat. I remember playing your Rog, your Guile, and your Akuma, not your Sagat? And if I did play your Sagat I probably played him once or twice. And unless I’m playing you for money or in tournament don’t take casuals that seriously and come on a thread saying you destroyed my Cammy. Unless of course you are willing to challenge me to a $100 MM at the next Tournament. Thats like me beating Sanford’s Viper one day in casuals and then coming online and say I “destroyed” his Viper.
Sagat is good but I hope you don’t think you are going to become a top player just by being a tier-hoar.
This is the problem with people everybody just wants cheap wins! Nobody actually wants to take the time to actually learn the character they enjoy playing because they are afraid there going to lose.
“It’s just so much easier to get a trade Ultra with Sagat so I’m just gonna main him for now on so I could get a few more wins” - This is what you sound like
Man up and learn your character and we should all take a lesson from Aulord who not only beat his worst matchups in tournament, he beat his worst matchups who were being played by some of the best people in the country!!
Maybe my memory is shot, but i specifically remember you saying Sagat is a bad matchup against Cammy, so i picked Sagat and 2-0’d you at Booty Clappa’s about 2/3 weeks ago. 100 MM first to 5 sounds nice.
Sagat wins arent always cheap wins, but i still believe he is too overpowered when compared to the rest of the cast.
Here are some casuals one one of the best PTX players around vs the ultimate giant killer team:

PTX has to work real hard and look for an opening to win, it’s really hard
yaaa boy that torni was hot but i came in last in tvc that sucks i gotta win next time
I’ll play my boxer against your sagat. I’m definitely up for a challenge because I like this matchup.
lol at this thread being a discussion on why giants arent that strong, when there is an entire tvc subsection with all this info, and hundreds of videos displaying how easily giants can be destroyed by players if they know what to do against them, with ptx being the harder of the two to beat. how lazy do you have to be to not just be like, okay, my bad, let me jump over to the tvc forums and do some proper research, rather then be like, please hold my hand and come to this thread and tell me why giants shouldnt be banned. ha ha
sigh
honastly they just need to keep them out of tornaments i feel like it makes a match boring and really would not full fill the games potential if they made giants legal to use friendlies well sure thats fine but tornaments
You hinder other peoples fun by not letting them choose that character because of artificially created rules. Not to mention once everyone figures out how to beat them (read keits post) than this will lower the amount of people who enter tourneys with giants anyways since they are easily beatable. You’ll basically get your wish of not having giants in tourneys since they’ll be so hard to budge a win with.
My Sagat is 1 day old, and I dropped him because I dont like the character, he isn’t fun to play with, and don’t feel like wasting my time, but if u wanna play, just give me a time and place.
But I thought you said that you’ll make it to top 8 with that character…
Picking Sagat doesn’t mean you win automatically. Very technical char. I doubt you’ll even place with the char. I speak from experience. And he’s far from broken. The player makes Sagat good(see: Sanford, Mago, Joe, OjisanBoy, Floe). Not that many good Sagats in the world. Not even that many good Sagats in NY.
I’ll be real; if you’re losing to Sagat that badly and thinking he’s broken, then you don’t play enough. Rog does well vs Sagat, it’s just that you have to work. If you don’t like to work, just learn Gief. And even then, he’s hard to win with at high level play.
I think it’s pretty ridiculous that people still complain that Sagat (or whoever) is overpowered and “ruin the game” over a year after the game has been released and soon to be obsolete. We all know Sagat is top tier with some questionable issues, nothing you can do but practice against the match-up or just wait until Super comes out and see how he plays there.
Whenever I’m watching Seb’s stream or read YouTube comments on Sanford’s matches, I always see comments like “Sagat is so effortless to win with!” Yeah, it looks effortless but you forget Sanford is one of the best players in the US. For those who think it’s so effortless or cheap wins, use Sagat and then routinely place Top 3 in Battlefields or any tournament for that matter. Using Sagat effectively at a high level like Sanford is not easy. I’ve also played Joe at CTF where he’s used other characters like Viper and Ryu and he’s still a good player.
You win with reflexes, execution, a solid ground game, and experience - not the character you pick.
I haven’t read the entire TvC argument, but even at the launch at Nintendo World I saw someone use PTX, put Joe in the corner, and Joe couldn’t do anything. In my professional opinion, that shit is ASS. Pretty broken if a character can continuously grab you in the corner and even after a burst they can just repeat the process.

Aside from that, very entertaining tournament from what I watched. GS to everyone who played.
Triforce, any idea if you’ll run another 2v2 SF4 tournament?
^ lol!
Alright, had it been a player NOT named Joe, would you still be down for banning PTX? Keep it real.
Yea I like how when people thought it was jus me, i get called a scrub, but if it’s Joe people “understand the frustrations”… I personally feel like the giants detract from the game, but if they’re in then fuck it, I play with megaman anyway, once i learn the matchup im goooood
