It’s a great show with great animation, and non-hammy voice acting that can keep even non-comic fans interested. If you lived under a rock and didn’t know shit about Batman, this right here would get you interested for sure. One of their best if not tbe best D.C. animated works so far. Why can’t Marvel get a clue? They had great chances with the Madhouse gigs, but they dropped the ball when it came to writing and in a lot of cases(Ironman) the animation quality.
Yea One was sweet. I can totally watch it at the beginning of my BTAS marathons.
Marvel trying different avenues and seeing what sticks. Iron Man anime was shit. Wolverine anime was mediocre. X-men anime is suprisingly good. I would’ve assumed since they’re under disney that have an in house animation studio but its whatever. But since this is a Batman thread, i’ll say that i like this movie very much. Short but they got the point across very well. The Catwoman short was nice as well. DC has always been on point with there animation. Live action has been sketchy(Unless its Batman). Out of all there animated features i think Superman Doomsday and Green Lantern First Flight is their weakest efforts.
was that person born in 1996 or something?
this is why the movies should not borrow from the comics, because later you have asshats who later on go “its basically the scene from the movie”
Year One is a Gordon Story
ASBAR is a robin story
DKR is a batman story
DK2 is a JLA story
You just got a lot of short sighted people who don’t go out of there way to watch the material the movies are pulled from. As someone who never read Batman: Year One, I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Same goes with the Public Enemies and Apocalypse movies.
yeah, thats my point. Im not trying to be an elitist “IF YOU ARENT FAMILIAR WITH THE SOURCE MATERIAL YOU ARENT A TRUE FAN” jerk cause i hate comic fanboys like that.
I hope your enjoyment of Year Ones animated feature inspires you to seek out the graphic novel Kusanagi, it’s extremely good as well.
Yeah i’m gonna check it out. I did the same thing for public enemies.
They need to do Batman: Venom.
I co-sign Year One and I like how it was mostly about Gordon. Can’t say I ever cared for Gordon til now. This moved up to the top list in my fav DC animated movies…
Long Halloween would be nice.
Would like to see them branch out to other superheroes for main features.
only if they can animate garcia luis-lopez’s style. otherwise will not want
I really only care about Batman anymore, as bad as it is, i pass on everything that’s not basically exclusively a Batman story.
Isn’t JL Doom next? Batman has a starring role in that storyline too, should be awesome as usual.
I just re-read that the other night, first issue only though. It needs some work, because the way they wrote that doctor was dumb. They can do it though, because that story is what started me collecting Legends of the Dark Knight. The cover that had Batman slumped in a chair full beard and all those pills spilled out on the ground.

So far, I think I’ve seen the following post-JLU, direct-to-video movies:
All Star Superman
Justice League: New Frontier
Batman: Gotham Knight
Superman: Doomsday
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
That’s in order of how much I enjoyed them, from most to least.
I find that the technical quality of the movies is invariably high. There are some issues–short running time, occasionally miscast actors, etc.–but for the most part, they’re very well-crafted. What it comes down to is the choice of material, I think. For example, I strongly disliked Superman/Batman: Public Enemies as a comic, and the movie did nothing to change that. Same goes for the death of Superman, though some of it is slightly more redeemable. All Star Superman is fucking incredible, and it translated into a pretty good movie. I haven’t read New Frontier, but from what I’ve heard about it, it sounds like something I’d enjoy.
Gotham Knight is an odd one. There isn’t really source material for it, other than maybe the Nolan movies, so it mostly breaks down by the quality of each mini-story. Some are good, some aren’t, and it averages out at just okay.
Superman with his super brain and super science uses his vast resources to give Louis Lane super powers for 24 hours because(Sex)? Then Lex gets powers too and is all like, fuck the sun bitches. He then starts to see the world as Superman sees it and has an mental orgasm. Those are the only memorable parts of that I care to remember. It was a laugh riot seeing Super Dick in action though.
Speaking of the post listed above me All star Superman was well put together in every aspect and I had a good laugh at a guy who didn’t understand didn’t read or what have you and said it was absolutely the worst because Superman died apparently he never read *THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN *oh and I told him he didn’t die he was watching over us from the sun, He still hated it oh well it was really good though. Favorite film was Gotham Knight the execution of the different artists and story boards were flawless loved every part of it, pacing music everything best episode was the India one because of the ending of the previous and especially the last shot of him standing there and looking up at Alfred with his hands full of guns and saying he cant take his hand. Also the two detectives ((even though they are supposed to be Ramierez and who ever) Were Montoya and Crispus Alan obviously before he became the Spectre and she went off the deep end which I liked alot poor Crispus didn’t make it 52…52…52…Favorite short was Jonah Hex that was a really good (though abbreviated) version of that particular bounty and was one of my favorite episodes from the comics.
Year one was good. Pretty much what I expected.
Batman: Under the Red Hood is still my favorite DC movie though.
Edit: Pretty hype for Justice League: Doom and TDKR
