Just got through watching Year One. It’s been awhile since I read the original story but from what I can remember it’s a very faithful adaptation. We need more Batman stuff that shows just how awesome Gordon is.
So…you guys are downloading or what? I thought this wasn’t out till next week.
lol I found it oddly enough on a porn site last nite (xvideos), and watched it. Damn, Gordon was a badass in that movie
I’m guessing the people who are surprised by Gordon haven’t read the book.
I read the book, I’m just more in awe at the animation quality.
Just saw Batman: Year One, pretty surprised at how faithful it was to the original story, and I thought Cranston did a fantastic job as Gordon.

I really doubt that DC would want to make another Green Lanturn movie. The last one was terrible, nobody liked it did they? It was basic a massive green screen and CGI cluster fuck.
Also, I enjoyed the All-Star Superman comic and animated film, but I feel a feature live action film about the subject may confuse movie goers who are less into the history of the man of steel. I just want a Superman movie that features a villain other than Lex Luthor or General Zod. Braniac or Darkseid? I think it is difficult to do a movie about Superman mainly because of his powers are always to a different degree in each comic/movie/animated show. And the other villains have too long of back stories to present quick and easily to a random group of movie goers. I think Parasite could be a good villain for a film, easy to explain his powers and how he got them, and why he is upset at the world.
Parasite isnt a well know adversary of Superman but I would so much more support it than Lex or Zod.
The people at DC just needs to give the people what they want in a Superman movie and thats action. Its a damn shame that the 30 minute Superman cartoon can get it right but ONE 2 and a half hour movie can’t do it.
The Green Lantern movie had a TON of potential but it flopped bad.
Batman year one wasn’t bad but I had a few miniscual gripes voices for Gordon, Catwoman, and Batman didn’t work, Gordon I know is suppose to be young so he isn’t going to have the grisled voice like the old man from the animated series and I guess the were shooting for as close to Gary Oldman(sp?) as possible Bruce Wayne’s voice was good Batman not so much and Catwomans was, well it didn’t have that sexy sofistication that Selina/Catwoman requires for the characters persona instead itsounded like a girl trying to hard and perhaps this is a tie in to Anne Hathaways (sp?) portrayal. I just felt that and a few other things were lackluster. Overall not bad but abit underwhelming.
Kusanagi:
I think creative people get so caught up in the other stuff that they forget what made Superman exciting in the first place. Do what Grant Morrison suggests and take a look at Action Comics #1–real one, not reboot. The storytelling is fast and furious, and furthermore, Supes lends his brain and his brawn to regular people who don’t have power of their own. There’s a resonant story waiting to be told for the modern audience.
And he’s certainly not afraid to use his fists in a brawl, which is one thing Singer got wrong.
Re. All Star Supes as a feature film: I think the moviegoing public is a lot smarter than the big studios give them credit for. They’re capable of dealing with wacky ideas presented in the format of a genre flick, as long as it’s exciting enough and has a fairly easy learning curve. Just look at Inception.
That said, the animated version of ASS ain’t too shabby.
I can appreciate at some level what Singer was trying to do. He was essentially paying homage to the OG Christopher Reeve Superman which is fine but honestly that is the one and only time i’ve ever fell asleep during a movie. I mean him saving the shuttle and the gatling gun scene was nice but the movie was dull as hell.
You wanna know what they should do? Just start off the Superman movie with him fighting someone from his rogue gallery like Parasite or Metallo at the beginning. No BS origin story for the villian just a straight up fight between the two with Superman occasionally having to save some people from the destruction. That right there would get people into the movie.
That’s one thing I wish they would do: either leave off the origin or at least minimize it. Anybody who doesn’t at least know the broad strokes has been living under a rock.
I once started counting the number of editions and revisions I could think of, in all the media Superman has been in, in which the origin is told or retold. I think I got to over a dozen before I stopped counting.
Watched Year One and it was pretty great. I read it back in the day when I used to collect comics, but that was over 20 years ago so I don’t remember what was the same or different.
Kusanagi: I agree with starting with a fight. I’ve said for years that one of the spiderman movies needed to start with him stopping Shocker/Rhino or something. Just to how it’s not ALL robbers and muggers with the occasional super villain.
He still REALLY needs to fight Brainiac. If they are gonna do Lex Luthor again, throw in Brainiac.
Green Lantern 2 is already confirmed. It just needs to spend more time in space, invest in some ACTUAL costumes rather than ALL cgi, and not fuck up canon any worse than they already have.
I’d watch a Superman or Spider-man movie again if they’d just skip the god damn origins.
Just start it off with them beating on some villains.
A comment from another site: “Its very short and not really all that good. Its just basically batman and gordon cleaning up the corruption in the police force. The main fight scene is basically the police fight in Batman Begins.”
Look, this movie isn’t going to reinvent the wheel, and you’re free to dislike it. But I’m scared of the fact that people like this are eligible to operate a motor vehicle.
I thought the movie was good, but…the ending kind of left much to be desired I guess, then again I have yet to read Year One.
This movie felt more like Commissioner Gordon: Year One TBH, lol.
Yeah, really. Where do they think the fucking scene in Begins came from in the first place?
The thing about year one is it was under a batman title batman was in it but it was really about Gordon and how he has to deal with the city (Gotham) coming from a different environment and being presented with a proverbial can of worms and doing the best he can to react to it. The other characters are there but the story was about him. Much like the Gotham Pricinct series that showcased gothams finest going toe to toe with super villains, pushers ect. and what thier dynamic was in relation to the madness that is Gotham. Good series and great character development showing Montoya and Bullock. NOw with the reboot I wonder if any of it mattered now though?
It’s true to the 86’ Miller story though. big props for that. Gordon was a bad ass in the year one comic and it showed in this movie. I though it was too short though. But yeah…dont f*ck with the commish
