Balrog (Boxer) Combos

Not entirely sure about this, but I think it might be for range, ie. standing jab has more range than either cr. jab and cr. short.

Probably most important for things like rush upper loops when you would need 2 hits to buffer enough charge for another special.

Hm, I suppose it could be used for when you use EX Upper and you absorb a fireball. Sometimes, you’ll be too far to hit cr. lpx2 or cr.lp, cr.lk. That’s pretty situational, though, but that’s a start. There’s been I few times where I missed the second cr.lp/lk after an EX Upper, so seems like it could be useful. I’ll test that later today.

has anyone posted C.LP > Ultra?

Yeah, the guy that found it out posted it. It’s somewhere in the Balrog forums. It’s funny - I can land j FP, cr.lpx3, st.lp, Ultra more consistently than just st. lp (x2) to Ultra.

Far lp is the only +8 normal balrog has

Tried st. lp > Ultra last night for a few minutes in training. Couldn’t get it. Will keep trying.

Just remember that it’s far st. lp (the long jab).

Yep I’m doin far st lp. Just got to get that timing down. Can’t imagine anyone pulling this off online.

OK, I’m new to Boxer. Can someone please remind me of what his best poke/block strings are? I need to work on hit confirmations.

And yes, I did check the SRK Wiki page.

Anyone got any tips for linking Rog’s crouching LP to his rush upper? I can’t seem to do it consistently and it’s an important part of his game as I’m not able to do rush upper loops.

I think you mean cancel to his rush upper from LP, unless you’re talking about linking the cr. lps AFTER an EX upper. Please clarify - we’ll be able to help you better.

Either way, though, you just have to practice it. Tips can only go so far. I’d say it all boils down to timing and execution, though.

Yeah that’s what I meant. Sorry about the confusion. I’ve been practicing quite a lot but I still haven’t seem to have nailed. But I guess I’ll just have to keep on practicing as the old saying goes “practice makes perfect.”

This video is old, but some may not have seen it. It may help with the EX upper timing.

cr. jab, jab, short xx headbutt
cr. jab, jab, short xx dash punch
cr. jab, jab, short xx uppercut

His best pokes are standing roundhouse and standing fierce

I need help. My Rog is lacking on the combos. I can’t get c.lk to headbutt, any tips on timing? Also timing c.lp - c.lp - c.lk in training is ok, but in actual play i dont get it all the time, i end up mashing it out which doesn’t work.

You just said yourself why it doesn’t work. Mashing it will result in no cancel.

Just try hitting everything “on-beat.” Hit all the buttons at an even rhythm. One, two, three, butt.

Practice and you will get it. Simple as that.

Just keep at it. It will come eventually. Put conscious effort into figuring out what you’re doing wrong, and fix it.

Anyway, try setting the training dummy to jump and always quick stand. Practice c. lp, c. lp, c. lk xx headbutt, then immediately jump forward and repeat the combo from the other side as the dummy is getting up after the knock down. That’s how I practiced the BNB.

but a blocked headbutt is dangerous!

That’s exactly why you start the string with 2 jabs. The string gives you more than enough time to see if your opponent is blocking.

Haven’t had much opportunity to play SF4 so overall I think I squeezed in 2hrs of play in a month which is a shame.

As per usual, whenever I return to it I hit the training room armed with my Keyboard and 15FPS PC to work on the consistancy of Boxers basics. I haven’t the FPS to time/perform EX Upper loops or the super fancy 20+ combos and it’s only since last month (After near 2months of playing) that I even managed to adapt to some of the basic ordinary combos that experienced players can perform in their sleep.

Still, I managed to record the large majority of them, from the basic and common (3-10+ hitters) to basic yet unviable alternatives (12-15 etc).

Considering people have moved on to projectile absorbing taunts and combo’ing Ultra from Standing Jab, this may not be all that interesting but it may be slightly useful to those hoping to get a visual on the basic combos.

Basic List/Examples:

J.FK // FA > CMK > CLK > Headbutt > Super // Ultra
J.FK > SFK > CLK > SFK (Juicy combo - Nice to know you can shred 350’ish damage off someone with such a basic combo [3xFierces + Jab])

Typical overheads > ClK // CMP > Headbutt > Super // Ultra

Everyday Jab jab jab short HeadButt

etc etc the list goes on. As said, it might be handy for those looking to get a little visual idea of some of the super-basic combos but ultimately it’s nothing special and any experience player would be throwing these combo’s out with their eyes closed, but oh well.

Nice to contribute in some shape or form, anyways
