Hmm… Maybe the TAP isn’t hitting on the first active frame? That might explain it. If you the TAP on the last possible frame you get +8 even without the counter hit, so theoretically you could even link into an ultra. Lol.
Ok didn’t know about that one. If you hit a meaty TAP as counter-hit then you would be at +12 and have plenty of time to link the ultra.
That I’m sure I haven’t seen but will try it in training mode when I have the chance.
I’ll repp you rainscape for this and for the other tips on the Utra/Super activation but I can’t.
I’ve started to use fs.lp to c.hk combos. It’s soooo good. Can’t believe I’ve been
playing without it for so long. Definitely an important tool in any boxer’s arsonal.
No charge needed. You don’t have to rely on just c.hk or other 1 hit normals when
you’re moving forward with no charge and with footsies. All Balrogs, go practice it.
It’s certainly a much harder link than, say, cs. RH to cr. LK. It’s pretty good damage just for landing one jab. I’ll try to work on it… I think it’d help my play a lot.
Yeah it’s pretty hard to link it 100%. I plink it though and it helps a lot. I link it about
70%. Also I don’t always just throw out 1 jab. I mix highs and lows ( always ending
in high ) Ones, twos, threes, fours. Gotta mix it up ya know.
Yeah, I just meant that good damage can come just from landing one jab [and the consequent jabs after].
I’m sure others of you have seen this before, so it’s not new or anything, but it would be nice to have these combos listed on the first post.
Advanced Combos:
- Full Screen EX Running Low Uppercut to Ultra
- At least mid screen EX Dash Upper to Ultra. You need to hit the upper when opponent is in the air.
- TAP to Ultra. Again, TAP must hit the opponent in the air to connect.
Did a few of these in G1 and it got me the win, so I’d say it’s a good investment to practice these combos.
Also, You might be able to connect the Ultra when you level 2/3 Focus attack someone in the air near a corner. I’ll need to confirm this when I get home. Otherwise, you can EX Headbutt a flying opponent after a level 2/3 Focus attack. My $0.02.
Messing around in training got me this. Prolly late news/not efficient but I couldn’t find it in the thread.
j.HK, s.HK ~ s.LP xx EX Rush Upper ~ c.LP ~ c.LK xx HP Headbutt
508 damage, 715 stun.
Sorry if it’s been said >.>
i use that combo (s.lp into ex.upper into etc.) a lot. you can fish for crumple with balrog’s shitty focus and go into it fairly easily as well.
however, it seems to miss on some characters. the s.lp whiffs on guile and rufus, and sometimes they’re too far away for the ex.upper to combo (sagat, sometimes). i have to go into the lab and actually check this one out, because this is all anecdotal and i might have just fucked up my links during gameplay.
Anyone know how to do st.lp into HB?
When you’re sliding from down to up you have to use lp as soon as he stands and cancel into the headbutt quickly after that. All in one quick motion.
Hmm sounds tricky. Especially online. Time to visit the training mode again.
Why would you need to do s. lp xx headbutt? Isn’t c. lp good enough?
st.lp has more range
It also whiffs on most crouching opponents… And the horizontal range isn’t that much farther than c. lk.
But c.lp, st.lp, HB has way more style than the standard c.lp, c.lp/c.lk HB. Also, EX upper stands your opponent so you can always land it then. You can also do st.mk, HB as a punish instead of standard c.mp, HB. That one actually does more damage as well as looking way sicker.
This guy Pamyu puts cr.lp,st.lp, HB to good use:
for some reasons i cant pull of j.HP or j.RH, cr.mp xx headbutt, or dash.
when i first started playing balrog, i did that all the time.
was the only combo with more than 2 hits i could pull of at all.
but now, after the jumping attack, the crouch punch wont connect anymore.
Charge immediately when you get off the ground, and delay the cr. mp a bit. The HP/HK puts them in so much hitstun that you can afford to delay the cr.mp (or whatever follow up to a jump in). Then, just cancel to headbutt/dash punch.
If anyone finds a practical purpose for cr. lp to st. lp xx Special, I will practice it.
st.jab to rush punches, and sometimes overhead catches people off guard.
No, what I’m saying is - why use st. lp in a combo that you’ve already started with cr. lp? Why not just continue cr. lp or follow up with cr. lk? Going from cr. lp to st. lp seems unnecessary. That’s why I’m asking if anyone knows about any practical purposes to use st. lp in a combo that begins with cr. lp.
