4 cr. lp + headbutt/ultra will kill your damage because of scaling. i’d stick to the standard 2 cr.lp, cr.lk link for that combo
Just to compound on what Fox said… Sometimes I get c.lpx3, c.lk > fp.HB to combo just from mashing c.lp during a block string and linking the lk and HB to the end but never go into Ultra from that because it does pitiful damage. (unless of course it’ll end the round) Ideally, the longest combo you want to do before an Ultra is starting from an overhead because anything more than 3 hits and the scaling is just ridiculous.
All right, thanks guys.
Can someone tell me Balrogs most damaging combo excluding full TAP super? (883 damage) I think I have found out his most damaging combo yet
i think it was j.hk->s.hk->c.mp->ex.upper->c.lpx2->headbutt->ultra but i haven’t got the c.mp to combo enough to try a headbutt right after that into ulta (prob more damage)
OK tried that and it does less damage then my combo, will record it and upload sometime this week
The cr. mp is a tough link that’s probably better replaced by cr. lk if you’re not comfortable with the timing. Lastly putting an ultra at the end of that isn’t worth it unless you know it’s going to kill, or they’ll have nothing but chip damage left. Sticking it in at the end will probably only give you around 60 pts. more damage.
Whats the combo?
if its anything like the 60% life combo my friend “discovered” on gief it will be FA>Ultra. Hes kinda the best SF4 player on the planet obviously
I like to link st. far jab after st. rh instead of cr. short.
I disagree. I have a use it or lose it aproach to ultras. Can you really count on getting another ultra opportunity that round? Any damage is better than losing the meter.
Anyway, I was wondering how you guys set up the ex upper loop. I have the cpu dummy set to crouch, and I cannot find a way to hit ex upper while they are crouching.
an actual opponent will always be crouching, jumping, or attacking so I don’t see how its ever practical to initiate the loop.
Halp!
It depends. Sometimes the threat of an ultra is worth saving. In that particular combo chances are the ultra’s only going to do 60 points, and depending on the opponent Balrog’s ultra is a decent punisher, or you can at least make them eat the chip damage at the end of their life. Again there’s no magic formula, but on a combo that long it’s meh.
I’m not really sure there’s anything to be said here. You either catch a standing opponent or you don’t. He doesn’t have any bufferable normals that force standing.
There’s eleven pages and it was a long night so forgive me if this stuff has already been discussed to death, didn’t see anything in the searches about the last one.
I’m sure everyone knows if you knock someone out of the air with a lvl3 FA, you can forward dash out of it and jump HP them as they’re spinning around, leaving the ink trail.
Also you can cancel a headbutt out of some standing moves by tapping them right before hitting up+HP. Works with s.lp, s.lk, and s.mk(close). Doesn’t work with s.mp, s.hp, or s.hk. I’m sure we’ve all done this on accident while trying to get the c.lp xx HB>ultra. Can’t come up with any practical uses on the spot but…it’s nice to know I guess. You can obviously do it coming up from from a c.lp combo.
I uploaded just the jab into HB, the others are the same deal. Of course it works with EX too.

You’re to be commended for trying to help, but this has been known to many people since the SF2 days. It’s how Guile does a standing FP into flashkick.
yeah I was gonna say this is probably in all kinds of SF/crossover games but whatev…
Another question. I’ve been trying to punish Ryu’s super with a TAP > Crazy Buffalo from a neutral position, I can’t get it to link though. Is it possible?
Edit: I’ll be damned, I just pulled it off.
Last Piece of the Puzzle
This is probably a silly question, but I don’t mind asking it, does anyone have tips on how to link his EX Dash Upper with the c.lp? It’s the only real part of my Balrog game that i’m not good at…any suggestions?
Right now it’s off muscle memory but when I first started to learn the upper to C.LP link, i went off with the visual aid of pressing c.LP when the dust from his gloves cleared. I’m not sure how accurate that really was but you can try it out.
Salla that sounds like a start…and that’s more than I had before…thanks for the help
anyone mind giving me some advice on doing overhead>c.mp>straight dash on sagat. for whatever reason i can’t get the full 2 second charge after doing the over head
