I like Dormammu having access to mixups with ironman’s beam (and deadpool hopefully). Makes Dorm much much stronger. If I feel the matchup would favor Ironman its easy to dhc to him. The team order can be mixed up. Ironman is currently my weakes character though, so I guess I try to finish the team off before it gets to him.
Also Dorm’s assist doesnt benefit the other two as much as their assist benefit the rest of the team. Ironman’s is easily the strongest assist of the 3.
That’s true I guess, but my point is Dormammu is one of the very best anchors in the game, so i don’t know why you’d deprive yourself of that.
With Xfactor 3 yeah. Without it I think Ironman is just as good. His assist just makes him more valuable as an anchor to me.
How would you guys rate a team of IM (a)/ Dorm (a)/ Sent (a)? I use Sent mostly because of his amazing assist and my strategy really lies with once I have a combo going with 2 meters I do Proton Cannon with DHC Chaotic Flame back and forth for the simple DHC and great damage then anchor with Sent if need be. Dorm gets teleport mix ups with IM and Sent assist and Iron man builds meter. Only thing I don’t like is you can only DHC to sent in corner when you need a third dhc to end someone. My Dormammu is real poopy, I get discouraged because I’m not used to a character with slow startup normals.
I’m also considering IM (a)/ Storm (a)/ Sent (a) while the DHC glitch is still around. Synergy seems okay but I might be focused to highly on getting Proton Cannon DHC into Elemental Rage full screen into DHC glitch (or when IM dies I have DHC glitch). Also mid screen launch with IM when you dash, partner a, smart bombs the whirlwind takes them to the corner and you can dash up and TK unibeam into mix up (referencing most recent IM technology video posted on SRK).
Also been considering Wesker, IM Sent or Wesker, IM, Dorm. I think I’d be satisfied with any good team with Iron Man though.
i’ll see just how much this team has changed in ultimate.
THAT IS MY EXACT TEAM IN MVC3. I loved them. They worked really well together. I could do crap like this:

Don’t know if it works in UMvC3. We’ll see soon.
I use Deadpool and Iron Man and have been looking for a third: I think Dormammu may be just the ticket.

I also use those two but prefer Dante with them. Jam Session helps with a lot of bad match-ups for IM, is an easy combo extender, and can serve some other roles in a pinch as well.
It’s also easy to DHC to Dante to keep IM safe (with Devil Trigger), or to extend a Proton Cannon.
Yeah XF2 + assist is much scarier for a lot of characters IMO than they’re XF3. Assist + port is just too damn good to not have plus the power of XF on top of it. Plus a character with wonky movement like Dorm could always use an assist that helps lock down for his mix ups.
With my team I play to kill with Dante with XF2 at the ready + beam assist over the anchor. Although of course I’ll have the skills to work Iron Man as anchor should it come to that. Dante without assist + port I wouldn’t want as an anchor any way.
I’ve been pretty happy with Dante at second or anchor. At second like you mentioned, he still has an assist to facilitate teleport mix-ups.
At anchor, you get the option to use Devil Trigger + XF3 to absolutely melt people with Thunderbolts. If they’ve already spent their X-Factor, you can grind through one character easily enough, and then he gets his usual retarded mix-ups on incoming characters using Acid Rain + teleports and everything else.
I found my team was stronger in the order of Iron Man / Dante / Deadpool because of the value of that assist for Dante, but I’m not too worried if things get mixed up and Dante’s alone at the end, either.
If IM has a shitty match-up against a point character of theirs, I’m also fine with bringing Deadpool forward to point and abusing IM assist with Deadpool and Dante, too.
In my opinion, Iron Man either needs an overhead or a low assist, as well as a lockdown assist. I mained him in Vanilla, but dropped him in Ultimate because of the air dash nerf and loss of his double jump. He feels a lot slower this time around, and needs more support. He needs a low/high assist because he has trouble opening people up, and a lockdown assist helps his rushdown game (if you can call it that :P), as well as aiding him in his zoning game (if you can call it that :P). I was thinking IM/Ammy/Wesker, or IM/Wesker/Ammy. Wesker is prefered for a mixup assist because it can extend his combos. Instead of doing Smart Bomb>Hyper, you can do assist>launcher and then add a bit of extra meterless damage.
Cold Star is too slow and it won’t hit far enough for IM to get in, IM’s dash is too slow for that and it is not like he can hop around like other air dash characters and switch sides or hig/low quickly. And people is going to chicken guard your Wesker gun shot “mix-ups” all day and it doesn’t offer much else. There are many other assist such as Dante’s Jam Session, Iron Fist’s Cresent Heel, etc. that can help IM’s neutral game, to get in and extend combos.
What do you guys think about Cap(Shield Slash)/Iron Man(unibeam)/Dante(Jam Session)?
I used to run Cap/Dante/IM or Task in Vanilla but I always worried about the constant side switching and not being able to DHC back into Cap. Also with Dante’s damage scaling being screwed up I can’t do the Hyper Charging Star into Devil Trigger follow up anymore. Jam Session really helps IM out with combo extension and in the neutral game, plus it helps Cap deal with his problem of not being able to catch characters like Trish or Firebrand who can stay in the air so I don’t want to drop Dante.
IM combos have the corner carry I need to be able to DHC back into Cap reliably, I’m just not sold on Dante as an anchor. I want to make these three work on the same team but IDK what the right order would be.
I would put IM last in this team, because DHC into Dante will do as much damage as Proton Cannon and you can do safe DHC into Devil Trigger. Dante is also infinitely better with Uni-beam assist compared to anchor.
My team is Iron Fist(rising fang)/Iron Man(unibeam)/Strider(vajra)
does this sound like a good set up for iron man? i know it really helps Iron Fist who is my main. it seems good but i thought i’d get your guy’s opinions on it
Eh, Imo IM isn’t that good with Vajra from what I’ve seen, he has some confirms with it but generally smart bombs are just to slow to followup off of a “random” hit. IM does get better in most of his bad match ups though… A better order might be Ironfist/Strider/Ironman but hey, it’s your team and you most likely know something I don’t.
My current team: Nemesis (Launcher Slam)/Iron Man(Unibeam)/Deadpool (Quick Work)
I plan on switching Deadpool and Iron Man when I get better with IM. Nemesis gets a lot of Utility from Unibeam and Quick Work. Although Nemesis’s assist don’t seem that great beyond Launcher Slam, which can be used to get some more damage from Iron Man in the corner. I’m not familiar enough with Clothesline rocket to know what good it does.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I have the best Nemesis player on the east coast in my local scene and Nemesis is always just played on point. Nemesis has meterless TOD’s now with his inescapable corner command grab setups so all you need to do with Nemesis is just hit people, put them in the corner and inescapable grab them and kill them off. He ran through all the 8 on the Break guys that were there (Damian, Felax to name the bigger names) just TODing people with corner Nemesis BS and having 4 meters for his team by the time Nemesis died.
Which since Nemesis is basically just a huge meter builder (even if he early he still builds up big meter for your team) I would suggest running Deadpool second. Nemesis doesn’t really need to DHC into anybody unless he’s in some shitty situation and doesn’t want to die. Which means you might as well DHC into happy happy trigger super with Deadpool so you get a safe DHC for Deadpool. Deadpool sitting on 3 plus meters and unibeam assist can be lame as hell. Plus you can use the beam assist to set up left/right cross ups into combos with your teleport. Or have them block it and set up a mad wheel (overhead kick) mix up. Mad wheel crosses up really ambiguously so you’re better off trying to get it to cross up than use the overhead purposes of it.
Definitely order the team Nemesis/Deadpool/Iron Man and you’ll be good to go. Nemesis can kill everybody without spending meter and that works great for Deadpool who will also work great with Iron Man’s unibeam assist. Neither Deadpool’s nor Nemesis’ assists are going to provide anything strong to help Tony in the neutral so you might as well just keep him in the anchor spot and just run the XF3 or possibly learn some TAC combos into Tony to help kill people off with Deadpool.
well i was having strider last for his XF3 ouroboros. but i can see the point of having him second so that i can take advatage of iron mans assist with him. teleport with unibeam looks to make an extremely hard mix up. since the unibeam pushs the enemy under strider when he teleports behind them. so they have to switch the way they block 3 times
