Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

Its also quick to counter and quick to resist, and in terms of ‘broken’ ideals, it just doesn’t do too much…its a matter of intensity, verse alteration of normal things…there is no realy phase shifts with fire…its on, its off, its hotter. It does not transform into a solid and thus makes a poor projectile in the scheme of things, the idea of a laser i a cool one, but ‘fire’ and laser are NOT synonomous…

Lightening is weird though…are we talking ‘real’ physics or cartoon physics. In manga/anime/cartoons, mofos aim lightening at people and expect it to hit, when in reality - you can point all you want - its going to seek the largest surplus of protons - so it will go towards the ground almost everytime. In an unreallistic manner such as mangas - where you can fire it at people, people can dodge because of the time it takes for someone to que up the charge to lethal levels…no one just bucks lightening off with good aim…even in mangas, there’s a hesitation where they build the charge, sometimes its in the form of holding their fingers back, the act of pointing, etc…thats the time to start moving.

But from a broken perspective…I’m ‘meh’ about lightening. As Pokemon illustrated, Earth/Rock just DESTROYS lightening. As well, PURE water laughs at electricity (water is not a conductor - it the particles in it that are). The only thing that loses to lightening clean is air, which I’ve already sorta said is ‘meh’ tier.

I guess lightening is Tron Bonne…the shit is a GREAT assist and even on point can do some nice damage/chip, but its just not fucking with Earth or Water. Best it could do is magnetism, but at that point your merely trying to emulate earth bending, similar to Aang (in theory) trying to use the friction of air on something to ‘fire bend’, or Kkitara using the rapid movmeent of water molecules in the air to create “air bending”.

Critics didn’t like A-Team…and yet I loved it…so I’m not going to say its going to suck. However .5/4 is so harsh that I’m extrmely hesitent now…

holy shit…its got a 00% on rottenTomatoes…wwwooowww

^ Never trust the score. Read the reviews themselves. As for A-Team, it’s not that critics didn’t like it as much as critics are torn. If you read the RT reviews, whether they liked it or not, you get a picture of what the movie is: fun and campy without taking itself seriously, like if Michael Bay actually knew what he was doing (he doesn’t). A-Team isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and the on-the-fence overall impression shows that.

But if every critic and their mother points out the same bad things about a single movie, like say all the Last Airbender reviewers pointing out the same falws, there’s a pretty good chance it’s garbage.

This Airbender review tells me the whole story: The Last Airbender Review - Read Variety’s Analysis Of The Movie The Last Airbender

I’m very, very concerned.

Dr. B shoots hadoukens that turn into hot women that have mad passionate sex with Dr. B’s enemies before turning into Death Stars.

Dammit, I stand corrected.

I’ll still watch the movie even if people give it a -5 stars

Oh - I’m 100% with you on that, I saw the 00% and thought “They must use that as the default score when they JUST put that up”…then I started reading the little pcitures of reviews…wow…not a good look…

Man… this movie is gonna suck. Does suck. I almost want to skip it now as to not tarnish my view of the series. How can anyone manage to botch this so badly? First he couldn’t choose the right races for the main characters and then it just sucks after that?

The way the action was describe was such a let down though. Aang hit people all the time, he just didn’t kill them. And if he didn’t hit them they got hit with something and it hurt. Instead people get kicked in the butt?! What? Roger may be right, this should have been animated if they knew they couldn’t deliver on the series’ stellar action but if that’s the case why bother with an animated movie in the first place. This was the only movie I was looking forward to this July. All I have left now is Predators and The Expendables.

I might as well go see Twilight…

They would have been better off investing the money into a new series…

Well, if we’re talking about plausibility, cartoon lightning can work if lightning benders are ionizing a superconducting plasma in the air right before they unleash the lightning. The superconducting plasma will then be a low impedance path relative to the air surrounding it. It won’t matter if there are lower potential points in the lightning bender’s surroundings.

Usually, people say lightning travels to the lowest potential nearby because they are making the reasonable assumption that the surrounding air has a uniform impedance.

But of course, this is cartoons we’re talking about here.

Edit: Whoops, I dunno whether lightning is made up of positive or negative charges, and I’m not about to look it up on wiki to find out. It would be the difference between moving to a higher or lower potential, but my point about ionized plasma being a low impedance path would be unchanged.

The only positive review is form Armond White. As expected.

Damn. Ebert tore M. Night and the movie in general a new one.
Deep down I still want to see it. But at the same time, I know I would likely walk out half way through the film, if not sooner due to all the changes, inconsistencies and lack of covering certain episodes.

It’s impossible to cram all the stuff that happens in each book into a 2 hour movie.

Ouch… its at 8% on rotten tomatoes and sinking. It was at least 10% not too long ago. Man… I had really high hopes that there might be the off chance that this movie would not suck but it doesn’t look like it. Everyone makes it sound like the 3D is visual diarrhea. Ugh… I am still going to watch it. A lot of the reviews just seem to be based on:

A) M. Night hatred

B) Not knowing what the fuck is going on because Avatar series is pretty hard to condense in a 2 hour slot.

Yes I am trying REALLY REALLY hard to be optimistic.

yeah i’ll be honest. If the majority of the critics keep the M. Night hate at home and just review the damn movie, i feel the reviews would’ve been a little positive. I’m checking it out at midnight tonight. So i’ll post my review later on.
I think it is possible to make a whole season into a 2 hour movie if you just give the important parts.

I don’t watch the show, I’m neutral towards M. Night and I don’t watch any movie in 3D.

Maybe, just maybe, I’ll like it. Looked cool from the preview.

yes! YES! FUCK YOU M NIGHT!

There is a new series coming out, Avatar: Legend of Korra, I believe.

Aight so i’m back from the midnight showing.
Scale of 1 to 5, i give this movie a solid 4.

First and foremost, the action and special effects were on point. Each of the bending was shown just like the show.
The acting was hit or miss. the lead guy playing Aang was pretty tame which is a good. Sokka could’ve been better. The guy playing him was just too serious. I was expecting him to provide alot of comedy relief. Iroh and Zuko played just like the show. Same with the Fire Lord.

The overall movie played like a cliffs note version of the show. The important scenes and fights were shown. Some of the plot points that got solo episodes in the show were basically expositioned by the characters. Certain scenes were in the show were changed around a little but basically played out the same. For example:

The Last Airbender

Spoiler

In the season finale, when Zhao slayed the moon spirit, Aang basically went apeshit on the fire nation tribe and was the embodiment of the water spirit which eventually killed Zhao. Well in the movie after Zhao slays the spirit and runs off. The princess does her usual thing of sacrificing herself. Zhao then tries to goad Zuko into fighting but Iroh leaves him to his fate which results in Zhao being drowned 4 water tribesmen. Aang meanwhile goes into his avatar state and staves off the ships resulting in them retreating.

totally agreed

wut a load of crap!! Im so goddamn mad about this movie!!!

teehee.
