I’ve read some pretty brutal impressions so far. One guy said it was worse than The Happening. >_<
honestly i think its gonna suck, but… I just want to see live action bending.
Also tiers in bending.
water bending which evolves to ice bending
Earth bending with evolves to metal bending
air…?
fire bending which evolves to lighting.
Lighting i think is above air but not fire.
Eh, I’d be reluctant to say water bending goes to ice bending.
I view it more as advanced bending techniques within that element. IIRC, bending water into ice hasn’t been displayed as being advanced at all.
Airbending might be the best. Due to the fact a skilled bender should be able to take the air out of fire, the oxygen out of water, make lightening and dodge or parry attacks by an earth bender.
I believe water would actually have the best cutting power. There’s industrial water jet cutters that cut through metals. Though I do believe they use water with something else mixed in. But anyways water can be pressurized and sped up to cut through a lot of stuff.
I think water is the best just for blood bending. If you ever play Dragon age as a blood mage, you know you would love the blood wound spell. Having a whole room of people convulsing and dying from having their blood manipulated from the inside. That’s what I expect to happen if Kitara ever wanted to go batshit crazy on people.
Though I wonder if Toph could pull a Jojo’s and do like that one guy in 5th series that uses the iron in someones blood to make weapons. Well there would not be enough to make a knife or anything but if you take out enough iron, the person would start dying.
edit: I just had a thought, if a air bender wanted to assassinate someone, they could try something like air embolisms. Just a tiny air bubble in someones artery and it would look like they would die from a stroke. Though of course at this point I’m just reaching beyond the scope of the show. They wouldn’t do something this drastic in a Nickelodeon show.
If I remember, water bending doesn’t quite have a second level. If anything, it’d be “puppet” bending since you need to be really freaking skilled to do it just like lightning and metal bending.
Also, I’ve never seen water benders make steam. I’d call it mist - water in the gas phase but not an increase in temp. They can manipulate different forms of water (solid, liquid and gas) but that doesn’t equal a change in temp. Out of all the benders, I’d say fire can actually manipulate temp by heating (obviously) and also cooling. Remember the episode where we look at Zuko’s grandparents? Emperor (Sozin?) cooled down lava on the volcano by withdrawing its heat and redirected it to the air.
You scare me man.
On Nicktoons during the fight with Azula one of the caption bubbles said that water benders can increase or decrease water temperature.

Why would air bending equate to lightning?
Didn’t you really get that from Magneto?
Yeah but Airbending isn’t Oxygenbending. You do realize it’s just air and all the things in it. Aang is not manipulating just a single element. The best thing that Aang could do is to keep pushing all the air away from someone in hopes to create a vacuum.
Just like I think that Toph would have trouble manipulating iron in someone’s blood. It’s not like it’s just floating around in chunks in our blood stream, however blood is mostly water and that’s why Kitara and the ol’ witch can bloodbend.
But I seriously don’t get the connection to Lightning with fire. It’s cool but fire and ligthning are so separate from one another.
If you look at the root of a fire benders power it’s not far out for them to be able to create lightning, it comes from their inner energy.
I got hooked after the first episode and powered through all three seasons. The animation was top notch and the story was great. After watching it all though fire seems to be the weakest of all the elements. The lighting was probably added when they realized how far behind fire was.(sans comet)
What the fuck happened this Summer? I had high hopes for this. I guess I’ll wait for Predators
Haha. I just remembered that he pulled that on Wolverine. I was re-reading some Jojo’s so that popped in my mind first. But anyways now that you mentioned it, I wanna see Toph pull a AoA Magneto and crush one of those firebenders in a tank like Mags did to Cannonball.
I was actually referring to X-2 when Magneto siphoned the iron out of a guard’s body to escape the prison.
Honestly, lightening is closer to water and to air, than fire.
If I was tiering I’d have water at the top, even in the universe that was shown to us - not what we think up, Kitara wsa the one who used blood bending and was pulling water out the air. With a thought she could immediatly draw out all the water from a human being. Picture getting ready to throw a punch and all the water in the muscle is instantly drained out. Picture someone drawing all the moisture out of your eyes. On a grander-scale, imagine well Iceman…
I’d follow that with earth. All I’mma say is ‘diamonds’…once metal bending became an ability, so did making diamonds…making unbreakable drills, illusions, etc. Ridiculous…
Then Fire…fuck lightening, you get fire hot enough and whats really fucking with it?
finally is air…this shit aint Naruto…Aang wasn’t “Shinra tensei”-ing cities…and while he in theory could…he could potentially create storms and tornados…all his abilities are negated by the other elements.
However his elemental Doom AAA in the finale is top-tier.

I think people are sleeping on lightning being weaksauce. Lightning is almost twice as hot as the sun’s surface and that shit breaks the sound barrier. I wonder how in so many animes’ and cartoons’ normal-footed people dodge lightning like its nothing.
I don’t really give a shit about movie critics opinions, nuff of them chat for the shit for the sake of being heard or being the first to be critical of something.
On fire being the weakest element I think it’s incorrect to say, people are ignoring the fact that Aang fucked Katara’s shit up by just grazing her with a little bit of flames. In terms of combat it is perhaps the most lethal, isn’t so dependant on the surroundings and is quick to get off.
Don’t care about the ones who don’t back up their observations with reason. The ones that DO, however, are worth giving a shit about. And while I won’t say I’ve always thought Roger Ebert was on the ball, he’s giving real reasons why this movie is terrible… and it concerns me.
I’m still likely going to see it, but I think I better set my bar QUITE a bit lower.
EDIT - Not just Ebert anymore. Read the reviews. Unless this is another Cable Guy where people are droves of professionals are inexplicably hating on something legitimately well-made, this film looks like a bomb. Eep.
Dr. B shoots eye beams that in turn shoot homing lions.
