Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

Go to ign, or some other media related site. They show appa in the beginning of the newest trailer. Actually i could just link it:
http://movies.ign.com/dor/objects/874418/the-last-airbender/videos/last_airbender_trl4_042610.html

I have yet to see Toph. Just someone in a hat doing earth bending. I really hope Toph is in this.

If it’s based on the first season (and if they’re sticking to that) then she won’t be, Toph only appears in Season 2.

its not just that the trailer looks cool, it’s the physics with the bending. it looks ‘real’ and fluid, just like the show. of course its only a small preview but im using it as the indicator/benchmark.

Dammit your right…I forgot…fuuuuuck.

I realised a while back that M’s films only shit if you dont fully understand what his films are about, unbreakable and sixth sense are some of his most straight forward films.

I cant say much for the village or that other one cos I havent seen them, but Signs I know being one of his most misunderstood films

Don’t fucking make excuses for him. Most people fully understood what went on in his movies. They just sucked. He tries to throw these twist in that just don’t work most times. When you get some time to waste, sit down and watch his movies, you’ll see what I’m talking about. You ever notice how whenever he had a new movie, they always say from the creator that brought you six sense. They never say Lady in the water or the happening. There’s a reason for that. Any other good directors, you hear their most recent shit, not something they made 10 years ago.

There was an interview where he said he sat down and watched the show with his kids. I hope he wasn’t lying about that. Because if he was and this move sucks, he’ll leave a bad taste in people’s mouth for a long time. It’s one thing to have your own ideas suck. But when you fuck up the masterpiece that is The Last Airbender, that’s just wrong. You know what? Regardless of how bad the movie is, it’s going to wow the kids and he’ll still make a ton of cash. It may have been an animated show, but I think it was more complex than just that. I’m pretty sure most of the show went over the heads of the kids it was supposed to entertain. I mean yeah, they got the slapstick comedy and the bright colors, but did they really understand the characters? It would be nice if JM Animation (studio that does the boondocks show) was to take it over and make it darker series or better yet, and animated movie.

It’s fucking naive to think that Asian actors were even given a fair opportunity to even try out for these parts. There were no asian actors called in to audition, period. This shit has been going on for years. Productions believe that Asian people don’t draw, so they whitewash. Maybe in an ideal world where every actor is given a fair chance to succeed regardless of race. But this is Hollywood. And it’s ridiculous that people out there still think that productions are not screwing over Asian people to this day.

They believe Asian people don’t draw because… well… they don’t. We have yet to see a mega blockbuster hit starring an Asian lead. High-profile flops like Ninja Assassin don’t really help the cause, either.

It’s not like production companies have a thing against Asians. They have a thing against losing money… Look at Jackie Chan’s career in the states. Rumble in the Bronx was a hit, and it led to him making like 5-6 more similar movies that made less and less money and the production companies cooled on him. Then Rush Hour made like 300 million and Jackie got some more shitty movies green-lit (The Tuxedo, The Medallion) until he stopped making money.

The problem is you need an Asian star that becomes a star for his ACTING, not his ability to kick you in the face. Currently the only marketable Asian actors are a bunch of martial artists who can barely speak English (EXTREMELY difficult to market a serious movie with a non-English speaking lead) and the guy with no charisma who plays Harold. There’s only so far you can go with that. It’s fucked up but it’s true. When Asian leads start drawing without having to do martial arts we’ll see more Asian leads. Eventually it will happen, but it will have to be a truly talented actor with a good story and a great director. I didn’t really believe a kids movie based on a Nickelodeon cartoon was going to be the film that gave us our first Asian thespian superstar, especially if he’s 12 and doing a bunch of backflips and spinning a bo staff.

Even though technically the term “Asian” includes Indians as well, in my post I am referring to the slanty-eyed variety. At least Hong Kong/Japanese/Korean cinema is becoming more and more popular in the States. Bollywood’s been trying for years and everyone still thinks their movies suck. (Cuz they do.)

^_-;

Glad to see some people aren’t totally ignorant here. I definitely agree with you to an extent. But in a large part, it goes both ways. You don’t see Asian leads because they don’t draw. AND they don’t draw because you don’t see Asian leads. Sort of a double feedback system. Most of the time we’ve seen Asian males in lead roles, they can’t even form a coherent English sentence (I’m looking at you, Rain). And as a result, they don’t draw too well. However, having been working in hollywood for the last couple years, I can tell you that you do have literally hundreds of talented Asian AMERICAN male actors in Hollywood, many of whom don’t even know martial arts. You also have a couple young up and comers who can probably carry the torch in the future (like Brandon Soo Hoo in Tropic Thunder and GI Joe)

But if you compare this last decade to the 90’s, the number of asian male leads has dramatically declined, while the number of asian male supporting roles has increased a little. This is because Hollywood is and always has been about trends. In the 90’s, they were still marketing off the whole Bruce Lee image giving guys like Jason Scott Lee, Russell Wong, and Robin Shou chances to shine. And it’s really no coincidence that all 3 of them stopped doing major projects after their biggest hits due to not wanting to fall into typecasting. In the last couple years, the more high school and college aged OC image has been prevalent in most productions, leaving us with such classics like Legend of Chun Li and Dragonball Evolution. Not really my idea of moving forward.

no no no no youve got it all wrong! people who arent white arent able to seem cool, mainly because it will conflict with western traditions, so even having a really interesting co star who isnt caucasian will conflict with yours and my countries traditional identity

wait wait wait- hold the fuck up, why is america’s ideal identity a caucasian image when it’s supposed to be the land of equal opportunity? haha what a joke, so theres no problem with making african american, chinese american etc characters look more vibrant and relatable/respectable in the stories? which would open up the masses conciousness to accept other people to have the lead role?

this arguement is sings Fuhhkking stoooopppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid

Well yeah, I don’t think you need 5 years of working in Hollywood to figure out that it’s probably the center of the grimiest most hypocritical business in America.

Like all business, it’s about money. Lots of it. And the easier to make, the better. Sure, some big-time production company could TRY to get behind some Asian actor and make him into a star, but that’s not easy money.

I mean, look at Sam Worthington. The guy can’t act his way out of a paper bag, but someone in Hollywood sure put a lot of money behind him. Stars more often than not are MADE, not born. If some fat cat in “upper Hollywood” decides he wants to make you a movie star, you’d have to prove yourself COMPLETELY talentless in order to not become one. We’re still getting Channing Tatum movies for fuck’s sake. Once some big-time prod company decides to fully get behind some talented Asian leading man, hawks him in a bunch of high-profile movies, and it translates to good numbers at the box office, then we’ll see more. We just need someone to be the first one. It took a while for black people to have any leads too, and they’ve been involved in Hollywood since the beginning.

^_-;

what me and killer kai are trying to say is, yes WHITE PEOPLE ARE MAKING THE MONAYZ but thats only because the lack any effort (let’s be real) they dont want any body who isnt caucasian taking the reins of our consciousness

its not about money for fuck sake, thats the excuse, it costs nothing to edit and properly direct a guy who isnt “white” man you need to have a proper fucking look at the shit they put in TV and films.

heres a tiny example- seen the film Stephen Kings MIST?

look at this-

shopping mall, three soldiers walk in (one of them a lack guy on the left)

00:12

right soldier:“the bus leaves in thirty minutes”

middle soldier:“we’ll make it ok, you guy’s get the goodies, ill wait in line” (cuts to attractive cashier)

00:35

old lady: howd you come up in the storm?

main white dad/guy:"we had a tree come through the picture window last night right in my studio"
his son: and the boat house got all smooshed, mr nortons tree fell on her (cuts to mr norton whos a black guy)

main dad guy: (looks at mr norton with a “I should be angry but I told you a million times” look, he then notices that mr nolan is looking at a soldier coming into the super market, probably with bad news… he’s black)

after looking at the black soldier like somethings wrong our hero hears sirens going off (camera follows a random black citizen moving about in the background looking like the sirens made him want to escape)

this is one of the most obvious bullshit you can openly take notice of but there are sooooooooo many racist undertones in media that is covered up nice and tidy to only stain your subconcious. people need to wake the fuck up seriously

where the hell were u angry fools when 21 came out and they replaced half the cast wit white people when its based on a true story about asians at mit.

Yea, I remember reading the book Bringing Down the House (not related to that other shitty movie). The thing was that the asian people in 21 were complete losers who were basically throwaways .

Anyways, I’ll probably see Avatar for the hell of it. Though it would be fucked up if Shymalan (however you spell it) threw a twist in, and I bet you he makes a cameo like he always does in his movies (maybe this is why he has the fire nation as Indian!?!?!?!?!?!?!).

actually bringing down the house is what the movie was based off of. they just replaced half the cast from the book wit white people.

I though that’s what I said? They couldn’t use the same name because of that movie with Queen Latifah.

edit: at least Avatar is a little better than before because Jesse McCartney was set to play Zuko before his tour dates conflicted with the movie so Dev Patel was casted instead .

I was around boycotting that shit. And I still haven’t seen that shit to this day.

This movie could have had an allstar asian cast easy. They could have pitched the idea to chow yun fat. I’m betting he couldhave pulled together a cast and crew in no time and got the ball rolling on this shit. Now I won’t sit up here and lie to you and say that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a great movie. A lot of other people thought it was great and that’s their opinion. I found it to be slow in some parts and better in other, but whatever, it was a love story.

The Last Airbender could be a great kungfu action flick with great special effects and fight choreography. Hell, I’d even watch the shit in chinese with subs if it meant some chinese production company would do it.
