Well the world modernized. Its been a shitload of benders since Season 1. But the level of skill in the benders has went down. For example, every firebender can lighning bend, but like 1% can redirect it.
Oh I was thinking more about airbending. But, yeah I agree with you on season 1.

Fire bending what does really control? Energy?
I remember reading somewhere that firebenders convert their body heat into fire. Itās why they donāt need an external source like the other bending arts.

yeah firebending is the energy within. Remember in ATLA when they went to that prison and all the firebenders were in that chamber with all that ice so they couldnāt bend fire
Tbh I think itās less about body heat/energy and more about their breathing. Itās most likely the cold air that stopped them. Remember thats all Iroh talked about.
The breathing thing was an exercise to get Zuko to not fuck up lightning. Creating lightning involved mixing positive and negative energy and using yourself as an outfit to let it out once itās ready to burst. Internal conflict which Zuko had in shapes would make bending lightning a bitch.
But having fucked up breathing is a huge factor as well. Which is why they pumped cold air into their cells. You cant take good beaths/remain calm being in a freezer for days. Fucks with their āinner fireā/motivation.

Cool that there are more airbenders. It was too sad and gloomy that there was only one small family in the world that could do airbending. This should restore balance.
There was also a woman who apparently can shoot fire from her forehead, like that guy from ATLA show. And that stump woman gave herself arms with water!
Honestly, best not to think about it as any system based on the 4 classical elements will break down when you look into it too closely.
Besides, we all know the real reason for the elements.

Our conversation was more about trying to apply (aka overthinking) what they actually do to bend their elements
Like Airbending is limited to what exactly, N, O, etc or any kind of gasses, which lead us to theorize if they could end Plasma Bending?
What kind of metals can metal bending bend? Like, do they can bend Gold?
If their bend is more mineral oriented, does this mean that they can end Carbon Bending the human body (we saw on the ATLA that they can actually bend the carbon that the fire nation had on their ships)
If Fire bending can create fire without fuel does this mean that they actually bend energy? After all they also can do electricity out of nowhere, this could mean that they could end bending light for example.
ā¦ Yeah we have this kind of dumb conversations all the time about random stuff, overthinking and all of thatā¦
I think firebending is more like bending heat and causing things to reach their burning point or turn into plasma (which is technically, what fire and lightning are).
