Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

When you look at back at the episode where Toph learned to metal bend she used her bending to manipulate the unrefined minerals in the metal to bend it.

So what stops them to learn beding the minerals on the human body for example?
They can bend a chunck of carbon, so they should be able to bend carbon based life forms imo

I think when it gets to that level it is easy too dispersed. Unlike blood

I think thw answer to these questions always comes back to this being a kids cartoon.

Coal is mainly carbon, but also has hydrogen, sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen (thanks, wikipedia). But let’s say it’s just carbon that they bend. Even though humans are made from carbon, how it’s bonded to each other matters. Molecularly, this is what coal looks like (thanks again, wikipedia):

So if this is what they’re bending in that ep, it’s fairly safe to assume some part of this is what they’re bending and maybe it’s in random dirt as well. Sounds fair, right? But then…we’ve seen them bend sand, which is mainly SiO2 in " inland continental settings and non-tropical coastal settings" (if I had more money, I’d donate it to wikipedia). Second most common form of sand is calcium carbonate - CaCO3.

TL:DR - don’t think about it, because it doesn’t make sense earth benders can bend both coal and sand when both are predominantly made up of different things. But if you REALLY want to find a common link of it all, it’s the element (ironically) oxygen, which is in small quantities of all the things I talked about above.

On the show Eartherbenders are shown to bend any earth based material. They been shown to bend crystal, dust, gems and even meteors.

This nigga pulled out charts

You’re welcome. :coffee:

Don’t forget the sand benders. Swamp guys were water right?

Yea, swamp guys were water. They bended the water within the plants

Shiet, I didn’t know this was the fucking chemistry thread…

Wasn’t there supposed to be a subset of airbending shown last season?

Tell me @Rhio2kā€Œ, why disagree? Does the power in firebending not come from one’s breath? The dragons are the masters right? How do they bend? Breathing. A firebender with tuberculosis wont stand a chance. Jeong Jeong said so.

Nope. We’re just speculating on what it could be. I think it’s vacuum-bending. Eliminate the air, choke out fools.

That’s just airbending brah. Not even Aang can bend a Dyson :bluu:

As for more airbenders, maybe an Air Bison or lemur spirit turned into a human? Or the lion turtles started granting it to more people?

Spoiler

I think the world balanced out since the spirit world became open

Uh…could you quote the post I made? I don’t recall weighing in on this subject, or even posting here in a couple weeks. If I said something about this, I honestly don’t recall what it was. Hope I don’t have early onset Alzheimer’s…

So I saw the first couple of leaked episodes in Spanish [huzzh being bilingual!] and I gotta say I am pretty damn impressed. The fights were on point and they delve into other character’s back stories. Also… Metal City is freaking GORGEOUS!

Korrasami?

Zuko?

Change?

omg

God damn it I knew I should have taken spanish in high school, but noooo, skinny pale girl in the french class. bah. I’ll just wait.

So when does the new season start?
