Aang was a far more compelling protagonist than Korra, imo [imo] (imo). Mostly because he’s a spiritual entity in the wrong era, struggling to revive and bring peace to a world war when he’s years behind on any training and is just forced to wing it. Couple that with the fact that he’s a pacifist and when confronted with the fact that he has to kill (eliminate) the Fire Lord he can’t really overcome that. That schism alone made me more interested in Aang than Korra.
Korra’s brave and strong, not with a lot of vulnerabilities… There’s nothing that really grow her character and in all honesty, they’ve ruined her for me because of how brash and immature she can be…
I’ve only watched Night of 1000 Stars so far and I can honestly say it has revitalized my interest in the series… There was always something in the episodes that brought me back from the brink of pessimism… Jinora’s situations feels like something rehashed out of DBZ for some reason… There’s probably no literature thing DBZ didn’t do though…
This series needs more Bolin.
Okay but am I the only one bothered by Zhu Li being in prison with Varrick even though she did nothing? Well, I’m pretty sure she did something, but I’m sure it had something to do with her association with him as his assistant. I’m glad Korra pointed that out.
So Korra cut off the past avatars. So that she’s can be the best (and worst) Avatar of all time. Just as planned.
Some things they need to touch on in 3
[details=Spoiler]More Bei-Fong
Asami’s 2nd attempt to get back into the game after yet another setback
Varrick selling the flying solders idea
More Iroh (old)
What happen to Vaatu? Its not like you can destroy him or Raava as seen.
More easter eggs from ATLAB. Zhou got that Elder Toguro treatment.
And please do something on Mako and Bolin’s parents.[/details]
Aang was a more interesting character because he set the stage for the Avatar concept in a really unique way. Thinking about it, the first Avatar series was really ambitious and amazing in their world creation.
Instead of just throwing the concept of the “The Avatar” in our faces (“Yo, I’m the Avatar and I’m doing Avatar stuff! Come at me bro!”) like some generic '80s tv show, they made Aang a long-forgotten, but necessary element of the world; finding his bearings in an unfamiliar landscape. Not only that, but his naivete allowed massive amounts of character growth without making him unlikable. The audience knows why he’s the way he is and can enjoy the journey towards his goal.
Which was completely justified and human considering the circumstances, and Mako’s bitchassness. I mean if the roles were reversed, wouldn’t you be a little irate over some ex-boyfriend kissing up on your girl and she’s denying your existence?
Notice how Asami…
-Didn’t compromise the mission based on her emotions and sought to protect her friends at all costs- notably Korra.
-Showed no ire or continuing jealousy towards Korra despite her “it’s complicated” status.
-Didn’t start a public (or even private) hissyfit with Mako considering his bitch moves.
-Hasn’t done any passive-aggressive actions for her own self-interest.
Thinking about the thousands of different routes she could have took with all the bullshit she’s been given, it’s amazing she hasn’t turned into Harvey Dent yet.
I just hope we see more of her next season. If anything, I believe Book 3 will be dedicated to Asami. However, how would Asami be as a villain? The majority of characters are benders, but she does have intelligence, weapons, vehicles, and hand-to-hand combat skills. I’m pissed she didn’t even join the final battle.
I’m aware. I figured much earlier that her role in combat would be minimal because Team Avatar were facing spirits, but outside of that we barely saw her or how the events of Book 1 affected her.
If you ask me, I get the feeling that Aang we created on purpose to be a very likeable character. Aang having a stronger spiritual personality, definitely not as quick to temper, and more of a diplomat vs physicality. He’s the one who seems to not fall upon any type of “clique” or “groupie” and overall has a very approachable personality. Considering the fact this was the shows first run, I’m quite confident his qualities were made this way intentionally so that it would be easier for viewers to be able to connect & more importantly like the central protagonist at the time, Aang overall is just a nice guy that practically anyone can get along with. However I would’ve been bored if Korra was of the “same” mindset.
I like Korra being brash, I like the fact that she makes so many mistakes, I like the fact that she’s short tempered, I like the fact that she has swagger. Unlike Aang she wasn’t living w/ the Air benders whom overall show a quality state of control & composure. That girl was what…4 years old & already showing off that she was the Avatar. All the more reasons why it’s interesting to see her change if only just slightly to become more poised as an individual. To see how she spoke at the beginning of Season 1 to how she is at the end of season 2, I’m loving it.
In the end, definitely no right or wrong in whom you like more. It’s all preference. During The Last Airbender, Aang was a top fave of mine, but I still liked Zuko, Azula & Katara more.
Never ceases to amaze me how Selfless Asami is, worst out of here was that angry pout face and yet she STILL keep putting aside her issues for the good of the team. Korra could learn a LOT from her. That said, WTF Mako? Showing how much of an asshole he is. Good detective as he may be personality wise he is low tier. Bolin on the other hand is a genuine great guy! LOL at the girl now wanting him cause he’s shown how great he really is. Asami should have snatched him up but I get why she still held a bit of feelings for Mako. Regardless, fuck Mako and I still Love Asami.
The Water Tribe guy formally known as Varrick I guess wasn’t really evil in the sense that he just wanted to make a dollar! Zhu Li staying by him is funny still. Like Mayuri and Nemu in Bleach except non abusive. Good seeing of all people saving the team being Bumi. Music soothes the savage spirit beast! Ok well that’s all for the aired episodes. will comment later on finale.
Honestly I still value Aang over Korra and yet I won’t debate that anymore cause I already have but after enduring a sub par start this season at least shit is paying off. Better late than never it seems!
It’s either that, or by merging with Unalaq, Vaatu’s started another cycle and somewhere out there, there’s a kid being born with Dark Avatar powers.
I am now pretty sure that there is more going on between Zhu Li and Varrick than just the former being the latter’s assistant. I mean, just the fact that Varrick named his battleship after her says something. Then there’s the look on her face when Varrick mentioned that he was giving the ship to team Avatar (which Zhu Li misconstrued as letting her join them). I’m going to say that not only his he porking her, but she has more influence than you’d think.
This was a great finale. I was one of the people initially annoyed by the regression of Korra’s development at the start of the season, but I like the fact that she is a complicated and layered personality that keeps changing due to her circumstances*(a lot like Water, huh?)*
She would have been the most boring character ever if she was just Aang 2.0. Also, my fist went into the air when Korra and Mako finally called it quits. The breaking of her connection to the past Avatars only cements that Korra is her own person and doesn’t need to be weighed down by the accomplishments of her past lives.
She’s Rodimus Prime done right.
Bring on Season 3 and let’s get Asami out of Woobie status!
