Avatar: The Legend of Korra - Book 4

just watched the first two episodes.

it was pretty amazing.

The videos on the site are hugely laggy. Can anyone give me a link?

Google korra.blob.core

I use Media Player Classic. It has no lag and perfect quality for a non HD 2006 PC lmao

Using ice

[details=Spoiler] Ice is permitted? They’re allowed to? That doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. If they want to protect the face, ice should not be allowed. Plus, I don’t recall any matches which showed ice.

I really liked Episode 2, almost more than Ep 1. We never got to see the training of air benders, so it was awesome to watch those swinging panels (not to mention how hilarious it is that Korra had so much difficulty). The evolution of bending to the sport of pro-bending is really interesting, like the evolution of old Martial Arts to what they are now, or the formation of MMA. Contemporary MMA people believe the traditional style is essentially out of date, not applicable, and pretty much the modern style is better (I’m not a Martial Artist, but this is the impression I got). When Bolin watched Korra earth bend, he was correcting her old ways to his style (I don’t want to get exact quotes). It could be because Korra’s never really really fought an actual battle so she actually is performing the moves slowly and telegraphing her attacks, but the impression I got is Bolin believes the contemporary style of bending is better. However, one big flaw in the style of pro-bending is they seem to tire out really fast. Maybe they’ll expand on ā€œold bendingā€ vs. ā€œpro-bendingā€ later on. At least, I hope they do. I want to see Tenzin own them all up using the old style. Better yet, have his 3 kids participate in a match. According to the Unofficial-official rules, it doesn’t say you have to have 3 different types of benders.

ep2

Spoiler

I enjoyed both episodes, but i have to say I liked episode 2 more because of the pro bending matches and Korra being given her first instructions on air bending.

Not really a fan of the pro bending plot line myself. It seems like filler to me. I am waiting for the villain arc to pick up. Overall, great show tho.

I like the pro bending plot. It works great for Korra’s aggressive nature and shows Tenzin a possible way to get Korra to learn airbending. Tenzin may even be able to teach her some airbending philosophy that she can use during a match, such as, using meditation to maintain her cool. Another aspect they might hit on is how Tenzin, an old school bender, initially thought the sport was foolish. Perhaps other, older benders view pro bending as something that goes against their traditional philosophy and style. This could create conflict between more traditional benders and pro benders.

More importantly, I think it starts to build on the separation between benders and non-benders. It demonstrates how much benders have changed in terms of their integration with their community. In the original series, they were made out to be treated equally with everyone else, including non-benders. You would frequently see benders and non-benders helping each other out to run their village. While benders were used by the police and military, it never felt like the other members of the village cared or thought of them as ā€œdifferentā€. They were all one village. Now, with pro-bending, it’s a different dynamic. Here we have what’s probably a very popular game that can only be done by benders. This helps to create a gap between the two groups and at the same time establishes benders as formidable fighters. Additionally, people start to idolize them and their skills which likely creates some jealousy and disdain by people that will never be able to bend. It puts benders in another class and makes them out to be ā€œbetterā€ then non-benders which is at the core of the non-bending movement.

Well no need to fear about them not being able to keep the quality of the last season while going in a different direction from the look of these first two episodes.

Episode 2 was great too.

I wonder if Mako is going to be the second protagonist like Zuko was. As in, Zuko and Aang were both the main character.

I’m really liking the show so far. I actually think once Korra learns airbending, it will be really good in the arena because it wouldn’t be as limited like water and earth are in there. Plus it would actually seem harder to dodge air since you really can’t see it come at you but have to rely on the benders actual motion to see if it’s out there.

[details=Spoiler]Im pretty certain he is gonna be korra’s love interest so it would make sense if he is also the second protagonist. As for the episode, twas quite fun to watch, the pro bending was a real pleasure and was masterfully choreographed. I especially liked mako’s boxing type firebending. Really shows that there exists different ways of bending the same element. The one thing that kinda rubbed me the wrong way was how korra just randomly learn the basics of airbending in the middle of receiving an ass whooping. It seemed a little too sudden for me, one second shes on the edge of the ring about to get shot out, the next shes moving like aang. I understand she still hasn’t actually learnt airbending, just the basics of movement but the sudden manner in which she learnt how to move like an airbender seemed a little too quick.

Oh well, really really minor complaint in an overall awesome episode, loving how this is turning out so far and its a shame Im gonna have to wait for about a month to see a new episode. Hopefully itunes canada gets the season passes[/details]

Rules of the pro-bending were a bit odd. Once they only won one-game and won the whole match. I liked it though.

Kind of wondering if Tenzin is going to be an uncle iroh or mr. pansy foot like aang. I know air and all, but would be interesting if the reason he couldn’t leave the city is he was actually a highly capable bender.

My thoughts exactly~
Awesome ep. and the music is fantastic.
EDIT: GIF TIME!

I’d kill for this one looped so he constantly is bringing his arms up and down like he’s cheering. Like play it to where he is pointing his fingers forward than in reverse.

Earth was the hardest to learn, but fire was the last he learned because he didn’t want to learn it. He picked fire up pretty quickly though.

Spoiler

Aang picked up fire bending quickly, but he was reckless with it. That’s why he didn’t want to use it. In season 3 it was Zukko who had difficulty, not Aang. Aang had problems with earth because he’s not confrontation, which is needed to earth bend (headstrong). During the original series, it was implied that the opposite element is challenging for the Avatar (Wind vs. Earth, Water vs. Fire). It makes sens it’s because of personality, which leads to that nation’s bending. But Korra makes it clear that it’s PERSONALITY not simply element. Not a huge difference, but now a clear cut determinant.

Edit: Sephiroth beat me to it. Balls.

Me too. Not really feeling pro bending. I’m not a fan of watching any real life sport so I don’t even like seeing it in cartoon form either. So I can’t say I’m excited that it appears as though it’s going to play a large part in the plot.

Awww yeah lots of awesome stuff this episode.

Boxing Bending is dope.

Really like how this show seams geared a bit more towards teens, as if it understood that it’s initial audience has grown up and so the show must grow up to.

mako wit dat dempsey roll
