quiche’s av is also pretty bomb. Mario and Peach drawn in with gridlines and the Shin-Shoryuken animations are dope.
Also, OC’s entry was pretty disappointing. I think you can do a lot better but judging from the results, maybe its just me.
i considered changing that when i realised slowing down the frame meant the fart stayed still, but then i figured it was more of a moment of realization for blanka and so everything pausing seemed to work better!
i’m surprised i had to make no consessions with regard to colour for space! fart jokes tsill own me but then i’ve the sense of humour of a child
Oh shit…I didn’t notice that…originally, I had the same hit-stun sprite for peach for both the “shin” and the “sho”. When I redid the sprite for “shin”, I completey forgot the “Your MissioN” text. Whoops! I’ll fix it before I wear it (or let someone else wear it)
And yeah, the text is definitely a sore spot. I wanted to fit everything in that little box, so I used a small font just in case I needed extra room to fit what I needed to say. As it turns out, I never used all the space in the box, and coulda used a larger, clearer, prettier font.
Yeah, actually, that was a problem before I even fleshed the whole thing out with the box and all. You see, shin shoryukens move wuite a bit vertically, but not horizontally at all…In retrospect, I’d probably put all the text in a bar across the bottom, and have mario walking over to peach before the shin-sho…but when I started, I’d have no idea that I’d be able to fit in over 100 frames. (and still nowhere near the 48.8kb limit!) I could prolly add another 50 frames, so I might retool this and/or expand it…or I might move on to something else…I’d hate to become a 1-trick pony.
Thanks! I don’t believe in using ugly sprite edits (which most of them are) except for my smash bros avs (where I WARNED people that the sprites would be ugly for a couple chars, yet those chars keep getting requested anyway, so I use the ugly ones cuz that’s what people seem to want shrug) Sprite editing (like in my popeye av and this one) is very, very time consuming when done right…that’s why even though I’m not too bad at it, I rarely do it.
Heh…well, this bg I used because 1) it looks pretty cool and 2) it looks pretty cool and is only 3 colors, which let me fit god-knows-how-many frames into that thing. It actually fills my inner fanboy with glee to get such praise from you, OC. After all, you are the main reason I started doing av animations in the first place.

Nice entries, everyone! I really like the Mario one (very accurate hitshake on Peach, nice work), and the Urien ones. All of them were amusing. I might look into entering the next one of these contests.

Thanks for the comments, I’m curious – what sprite colors do you think would have worked better? I actually thought the bright, primary-ish reds and blues of the background and chun’s outfit, respectively, complemented each other pretty efectively.

Great job and thanks to all the judges (and others) who commented on my av – it’s really fun (and useful) to get feedback and a fresh perspective on my work. It was also really nice how quickly and smoothly everthing went, I remember battles in the past where we waited days for the judges to respond and then sometimes a winner was never even declared. I hope it doesn’t take too long for the next battle to get underway.

I’ve asked all 5 judges from this battle to return for the next one (which I think I’ll announce on Monday) and all 5 have agreed.
I’d be happy to take more judges, as this went very fast, and some avs didn’t get recognition that should have, due to there only being 5 judges. (Bay 6’s and The Mullah’s entries come to mind)
Rate the avatars from this contest, chibi, and we’ll see how your judging skills are.
Honestly, I’d really LOVE to make OrangeCat a judge, as he has the best eye for these things, and probably made the best observations out of everyone. Sadly, I really LOVE having him enter his badass animated avatars, so I can’t let him judge

I can vouch for Master Chibi’s judging skills, he’s been doing it (and very well) since, I believe, before I first came here a couple years ago.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the two best possible judges you could have for the next contest [who post regularly on SRK] are Kid Wonder and Mister Chibi. No disrespect towards anyone, of course. You haven’t been hanging out in IMM for that long so maybe you missed out when Chibi was more active, quiche. 
The only problem people might have with them is that they probably won’t be handing out sugar-coated CnC.
