I feel Doom’s Hidden Missle is the best possible keepaway assist that MODOK could have. They basically help each other with their weakness. Doom’s hidden missle break combos and MODOK can place Doom off screen. MODOK is runaway/keepaway game is much more annoying when you have to watch out for the random missles.
Whereas I believe MODOK could use Haggar to take away pressure off MODOK, and if they duck they are actually highly vulnerable to IAD Ls. This is actually good for MODOK’s HIGH/LOW because he can force his oppotent to duck. It’s a lot easier to make MODOK’s shield safe when Haggar is on screen. The only problem with Haggar, is that he can’t make use of Haggar offscreen like he can with Doom’s hiddle missles. Haggar is still useful for a rush down verison of MODOK.
MODOK/haggar/Doom is pretty scary. Zone you as long as he wants to, pushing you to the corner whenever Hidden Missiles come down, and if yu make it past his obstacle course you either get hit by Haggar and get combo’d, or you duck and get hit by air L and combo’d.
IMO the best 5 assist thats you could give MODOK would be… in no order.
Cold Star, the best lockdown assist in the game IMO, it’s perfect when you want to setup unblockables.
Jam Session, it’s very good combo extender/lockdown/it covers vertical axis. It covers a lot of areas that MODOK wants.
Hidden Missles, they actually cover MODOK’s blindspots better than other assist in the game. This is useful for keepaway, and it makes a lot of MODOK’s laggy moves safer.
Drones, The best one for rushing shit down.
Spinning lariat, MODOK can combo off of random hard knockdowns. The fact that Haggar can interrupt combos due to the wacky Assist mechanic is just too good not to consider. If they duck the lariat they are highly vulnerable to IAD baby kicks. The only weakness of this assist is that MODOK isn’t strong enough of a character to make this pair dominate a entire match like Dante/Haggar could.
There are other good assists for MODOK, but I feel theses cover MODOK’s biggest weaknesses.
Another great partner for Modok is Captain America as we all know it, for extending his combos, and allows more cubes to combo in. Modok has some absolutely beast corner combos with the captain. And as always, it’s always smart to utilize both assist in combos… for even more damage Captain America’s pretty underrated, and although a very basic character which some may find very boring, he’s got some interesting elements to him. Shield slash loops, and combos involving assists that allow him to do 4x charging stars into super (without x factor! requires sent drones assist), awesome cross up cartwheel dash, one of the best kara cancels in the game ( H xx cartwheel ) gives him ridiculous ground distance kind of like a long slide getting from one side to another almost instantly, and tons of other neat stuff.
So is consensus that MODOKS best partner is Dante? He comes with Jam Session AND what is it called trick shot (gun move which is great)?
I’m saying this because it comes with Dante lol who is arguably better than those other characters.
Jam Session is a good AA and good lockdown. I have the sudden thought that X-23/MODOK/Dante would be good. X-23 gets momentum well, and has a low assist. She loves Jam Session, and Psionic Blaster could be a good crossup assist. She can get people to the corner pretty easily, and can DHC glitch into MODOK. MODOK does well with the low assist, and Jam Session to cover the sky. Date is a good anchor, and if he gets snapped in for any reason, Psionic Blaster could be a good assist for teleports, and Ankle Slice for unblockables.
I would assume that the standard bearer top assists are best for MODOK as well. Haggar, Tron, Sent , Akuma, OTG/big beam (whoever). Everyone benefits from invincible frames, haggar’s current hard knock down makes Modok’s OTG capabilities incredible, couple that with the benefit of covering the fly glitch and it protects almost every base Dizzle has trouble with. Seeing as I’m terrible with Haggar and feel he’s pretty much free against 80% of the cast, my vote for best assist is sentinel. Lock down, zoning and combo damage extension mixed with a long hang time of projectile. Perfection
^ that’s pretty much why I don’t play Haggar… Great derp assist, leads to combos, but when my guys die and it comes down to Haggar vs a team… fuck that. I just do what I did with Psylocke in MvC2 and let go of the stick most of the time.
Kind of reminds me of how I wish there was a pause > rematch option. Sometimes when I get happy b-day’d in the first 10 seconds I just want to chalk it up as a loss and restart haha
EDIT: Not to say that it’s a bad idea to pick Haggar… I do think he’s a smart choice (and he’s great in combos too!) but I’m not always about being smart. :looney:
I think its worth mentioning arthur daggers for modok, too. I have playing around with arthur anchor preparing for ultimate and the daggers are amazing even when not powererd up. Once he gets lazer daggers its even better. I think drones and daggers are the best assists for unblockables but both have different strengths. Drones cover more of the screen are slower allowing more time for setups (or for sent to get blownup) and can miss cornered crouching characters. Daggers hit lower but they are sometimes too fast to convert from (but allowing flexibility in assist calls) and come with arthur…
I’ve been playing an alternate team of Dorm, Storm, Sent. I’m usually pretty defensive in my playstyle and I’m looking to get myself out of my comfort zone and try playing MODOK. I know that MODOK gets a lot out of drones and that Storm might help him with zoning but since I know next to nothing about MODOK, I decided to ask what you guys think of the team. I’m thinking that the lack of a low hitting assist might hurt MODOK a bit but otherwise the team seems fine in my eyes.
A low hitting assist isn’t as important when you have something like Drones or another assist that locks down their movement.
At least from what I can tell. Storm/MODOK/Sentinel sounds good to me.
Sentinel is meh XF3 anchor, but his assist is one of the best rushdown tools for MODOK. It’s good for lockdown, but it’s primarly useful for rushdown.
Doom’s Plasma beam can lockdown people because there is frame advantage on the beam. Since MODOK loves hard knockdown, he can convert combos with his cr.m. Hidden Missle have to be made safe if Players want lockdown as well. Rock can also work because they function somewhat similar to drones. Doom isn’t too bad of an anchor himself.
Ammy’s cold star has longest amount of blockstun ever, and she has iron defensive as anchor. A lot of characters struggle to actually open her up, meanwhile Ammy can just slowly punish your own mistakes.
Skrull isn’t the best anchor ever, but he can go some miles with his 50/50s. I think orbital grudge is the clostest thing to Akuma’s tatsu. I just think Skrull needs a team to himself.
Dorm is one of the best anchors in the game, but his dark hole is alright.
You can’t go wrong with any of this, but it’s really up to you.
Not that there is a lot of information regarding Phoenix Wright’s Maya Shield (besides having to wait for her to run off screen until another Maya based special), but I was curious as to the benefit (or not) of using it in conjunction with MODOK’s barrier assist. Functional? Redundant?
DHC trick between all 3 characters, although modoks is harder to start.
Modok and dante have some good combos, while spencer allows some sick resets with his slant shot assist.
Modoks shield assist as opponent are coming in makes mixups fairly awesome for dante.
Spencer is a godlike anchor but his assist makes sick resets.
Yeah i found that out last night. Sad though because I love the aegis when people are coming in. It’s like having them in the corner midscreen.

Lovin Modok/Ammy/generic anchor as a team. Magneto has a setup with ammy where he does m.disruptor and puts you into the ice, keeping you there for a high low. The same can be done with modok but w/ his bombs/cubes, and he recovers quicker! test it out yall
