Mind if I quote that in an article? Doing something on match up numbers, but I’m trying to gather some credible information.
Hey Kim, cool that your are doing this.
My question is: Dic’s top 3 Frametraps and why? Do U find them usefull for other stuff then to punish c. tech?
Corrosive: No prob, go for it.
Zarfax: up close I only use three frame traps
- low short, stand fierce
- low short, low strong
- low short, wait , low short x 2
After a jump in fierce, I might pause half a second and do stand fierce xx scissors . That often catches mashers or people that like to do crouch techs
Whats up Kim! Hey I know you fight hardcore chuns out there but do you really think its that bad? I think she has no hope if shes at loss of a life lead. This happens with every chunli i face either its 20-30 sec of footsies, gaining meter then either one gets started, Chun starts rushing bison down until he gets away repeat or she gets rushed down with scissor kicks and tries to avoid the corner (I believe corner is game for her when proper scissor pressure is applied as she cannot escape)
I never jump in unless its after a knockdown or she throws a miscalculated fb in which she’ll either focus the jumpin or focus backdash which bison has options for both. Standing fwd and random scissors handles her when shes walking foward, so what makes this matchup so hard that japan thinks she owns him upright?
Me and Sanford talked about a conversation you guys had about japan chun and i’d like to know your opinion personally. Also I’d like to add that most of them use u2 for dictator instead of u1 which changes the matchup drastically for her.
btw CVS2 players ftw!! ^.^
Fuerte= 4:6
Rufus= 4.5:5.5
Zangief= 6:4
Could you elaborate please? Im REALLY surprised about those.
Sup Jeron!
Well its just my personal opinion but yeah. Most Chun’s arent even trying to attack me from the beginning, they only try to attack at moments where its completely free for them. I have to chase her which imo is a losing battle since she has better footsies because she can do more damage off them then I can. Scissor kick trap doesn’t seem scary vs chun because she can hold back and avoid you’re low short follow up if you do a two or three hit chain into scissors. Stopping wake up backdash or mash on backdash is very difficult with bison. her safe jumps + O/S (sweep or overhead kick) are all safe to go for for the most part.
Basically any chun that sits there will get killed. If she mixes up wake up spinning bird kick with wake up jump with wake up back dash , this all equals wake up very fucking annoying.
U2 is prob better vs her, but I just don’t have enough experience using it. I just know my gameplan and want to make it hurt when I read her, thats why I pick U1. It makes sense though that U2 is better.
Sharin:
Fuerte is gay. He forces a situation to happen. Not a very street fightery character. Bison has no air move to avoid stupid Ultra, so you just have to… play picture perfect in order to avoid any fuerte bs
Rufus: I can control pretty much any Rufus, I’m just thinking in the long run. Playing perfect defense will never work. Rufus doesn’t straight up lose to Bison, he just chooses to run into all those roundhouses. Rufus does more damage, so I give the edge to Rufus. It’s a slight edge though, not that big of a deal.
Gief: Gief got nerfed a bit too much. It’s much easier punishing his lariat and his jump(since your low fierce is better now). U2 helps to escape from BS cross ups. Maybe not 6:4. But I feel much better about the match up
Kim, I think you’re the only Bison I’ve seen use EX scissors in combos. Is this about maximizing damage, or does it open up setup possibilities or something?
Awesome, thanks Kim. So, is it character specific? who do you do it vs?
So what do you go by on XBL/PSN to find your videos on the tubes?
a video of this would be awesome, still strugling with 3x lk
Hi Kim,
Were my previous questions too general?
I’ll try to be more specific:
- how do you handle viper on her wakeup?
- since you aren’t familiar with the seth mu (inferring from your mu chart), how do you handle Sagat’s block strings loops (that typically end with tiger knee)? Their extent was reduced in super because of the s.lk nerf, but they are still very effective vs dictator.
Thanks.

Most Vipers are pretty free on her wakeup. Obviously her DP sucks (like 12 frame startup or something ridiculous). Ex Seismo gets beaten by one of Bison’s normals (roundhouse?). Her other stuff gets beaten by other stuff. Just safe jump OS roundhouse or whatever. If she does one of her feints for the invincibility and then cancels it, that’s a little harder to deal with though.

Sagat’s blockstrings are pretty weak in Super. I don’t even know if he can string it to be safe more than once. Just block the Tiger Knee high and it’ll make it easier to punish.
Really hoping to hear Kim’s take, since it’s his thread, but thanks…
I’m a Akuma player and I find the matchup to be very difficult against a good Bison. I’m just wondering why you think it’s slightly in Bison’s favor. I feel like Bison can zone Akuma pretty well, and the worst part is, it’s almost impossible to mix him up. Even using option selects, it’s a guessing game that’s in Bison’s favor. Plus, it’s difficult to even set up an option select since you can’t sweep after tatsu. Once Bison has ultra 2, it shuts down a lot of Akuma’s options, fireballs, air fireballs. Can’t even air tatsu out of the corner without being punished.
NDRWPNDY: I use ex scissors to end combos to usually try to kill someone off. There are no setups after except for a free headstomp chip depending on who you’re facing. In all honesty using ex scissors to end combos isn’t really worth it
Hobo Joe : I don’t do low short x 3 by plinking them. I use crouch tech x 3. And I mash vs any character all day everyday
Commander:
- on vipers wake up it’s all hard to Use O/S to cover all your bases. If you wanna cautious about ex seismos use low jab low jab as a chain. If you wanna punish backdashes you use o/s roundhouse (which loses to wake up ex seismo), etc
But I’ll teach you something that absolutely no one knows
A perfectly meaty stand jab with bison can avoid ALL of vipers wake ups. This is hard to do vs a knockdown that is techable but easy off a throw with this specific front throw setup
Front throw, immediately jump and whiff a jump jab, land, press stand jab as early as possible , stand short + stand roundhouse, then either stand roundhouse or low short scissors
Try to do any of vipers scrubby wake ups
Best bipson
- block tiger knee high and eventually after two reps, you’re pushed out.
kim1234, what strategy do you employ when keeping dive kick characters out?
right now i try my best to preemptively s.hk dive kick characters. if they get in with dive kicks, i try not to crouch tech and if i guess that they think i’m going to crouch tech, i try my best to jump out and use j.hp (they’ll do a second dive kick, which allows me an opportunity to jump out). what other tips can you provide? anything is fine, no need for a crazy write up. thanks in advance!
My match up ranking said Akuma beats bison slightly
Akuma runs away better then bison and does more damage. Akuma with godlike footsies theoretically will beat a bison with godlike footsies
That’s my take on it, don’t feel like typing more about it now
The thing people don’t do the most is the most effective strat… And that’s to block
Don’t know whos dive kick you’re talking about but
Block
Mash
You can’t really beat dive kicks when they are already out so why are you in that situation in the first place
Akuma’s dive kick off of demon flip is unbeatable atleast in vanilla , can’t ex psycho it
Cammy’s seems too good too, but haven’t tested countering it
Rufus’s dive kick can be stopped depending on what angle he’s at, if you block a dive kick from sorta high, mash on stand short
can you explain the bison vs vega (spaniard) match?
vega improved a fucktons but enough to give him an advantage vs bison?
The first thing that comes to mind is that vega’s low jab although being four frames, somehow beats my follow up low short after scissor kick often. Granted I’m playing online and my move is one frame faster, this is usually what happens. Might be a hit box thing like when Rufus or viper mash on stand roundhouse to go over bisons low short. You can figure that out for me if I don’t do it first
Vega’s combos do mad damage now. Low jab links are easier to do this Vegas will be landing combos more often
Vega out pokes bison pretty well, fast walk speed
If you can do kara throw or hit confirm forward+roundhouse trap and up close crazy pressure like Christopher King (AKA the white Spaniard) from San Diego , you’ll be good
A claw player being able to attack up close and be REALLY good at it is 30 levels stronger then any vega that has all other parts of his gameplay mastered except for the threatening offense
But in some regard having that skill might be a natural thing for the people that can do it well
Bisons a basic ass character , what can I say. He really lacks some scary offensive stuff that others have. In a first to five, I’m pretty sure I can do well vs any character but my ranking charts are based on some theoretical bothersome first to 20 set vs someone who is of equal skill
