Yea I’ve been called the N word many times playing balrog and I’m white (which they should easily be able to tell by my avatar). Always from people that I tear appart with ease. One of them was calling me the N word over the mic and a swear he sounded black himself and he was saying N***er and not N***a. Doesn’t bother me too much b/c I doubt most these people are actual racists, they are just trying to troll you and get you mad by being shocking.
I’ve never gotten racial hate-mail before from playing street fighter. Even though there are some real d. nozzles out there who play this game, the class of individual who plays Street Fighter is somewhat higher than that of one of my other favorite titles, gears of war 2. Playing it, I’ve been called every slur in the book and it’s painfully obvious I’m white. Even on the shitty xbox live headset mic.
Epic video, BTW. Uploading it in HD was a nice touch. It allows one to drink in the full and rich bouquet of fail on display online, and off.
The guy that said one sentence after losing or the man who went on a forum, searched myspace, and made a youtube video just because the guy called you a racial slur, over a video game, on Xbox Live.
that’s not entirely true. I have a fair amount of free time, but the game bugs out and gives me that “because the game didn’t conclude properly” etc etc… so I should have a couple thousand more points than I actually do. I get ripped off.

I have never been the target of racist remarks in SF4 for choosing Balrog, however in HD Remix, I have been called similar slurs repeatedly for choosing Dee Jay.
While preferential treatment based on ethnicity is a form of racism, deciding which character you play based on his or her race is so trivial and isolated in its effect that labeling it “racism” would be misleading, and could be seen as disrespectful toward those who have been the target of genuine personal racism. After all, the characters in the game are not people that can be harmed by your preferential treatment toward another character–they’re just collections of polygons, and to be 100% clear, collections of polygons do not contain race.
Bullshit hate like that is like an every day thing on the internet man.

i just simply hit render on the way out the door.
i can practically compose those kind of videos with my eyes close.

I play Balrog/Deejay in HDR, and Balrog is my SF4 main. I’ve received a stunning amount of racial hate messages in both games (though a lot more in HDR than SF4). For the record, I am pasty white. I’ve taken cell phone pics of most of them, one day I might get around to uploading some of the juicier ones.
Really, the moral of the story is that humans are garbage, but they’re even more garbage than usual online, where no one can knock them to the ground or throw a drink in their face and so on. Hopefully after we screw it all the way up in the next 100~200 years, dolphins will do a better job a million years from now. Except probably the pink dolphins will hate the blue ones, etc.
I haven’t encountered any racism in the PC version yet. So far everyone I played against is pretty nice. I’m sure there are some bad apples some where though
