i dunno, maybe I’ll check it this week. anyone see it at downtown yet? I don’t wanna check if it’s not there again
FF Battle Archives 1 is supposed to come out in August (it has FF1, FF2, FFS & FF3 in it). I’m assuming FF Battle Archives 2 (which contains RBFF1, RBFFS, RBFF2) will come out in US as well at some point.
Not really. Most of the characters who matter have already been revamped (Ryo, Robert, Takuma, Yuri, King, Eiji, Lee, Mr. Big). I doubt anyone would care for a revamped John (who was a BLATANT Guile ripoff from the start) or Micky (who was a gay boxer to begin with).
right, but that doesn’t mean anything. If I remember well aof 2 isn’t a tournament.
Sweet
I have some actual gameplay questions here:
- What are the tiers for each of the games (at least, for all legal characters)?
- Does Micky really have that throw infinite in AoF2?
- How do most of you people feel about the pacing of the games? For example, when mostly every special results in knockdowns of some sort, and the fact that you can’t really spam specials and such.
You got me there. AOF took place first, but I can’t remember any mention of an official tournament. I’ll have to look that up,if possible.
I gotta get this for some AoF3
more samsho ports would be the best thing to come to the states
The AOFA instruction manual claims that AOF2 is a King of Fighters Tournament…
By the way, this is generally a no-frills anthology…but it DOES have arranged and original soundtrack options. Pretty cool.
AOF3 is a frickin’ nice looking game. Reminds me of Garou.
SS Collection is supposed to come out in Japan at some point. Hopefully it will come out in US as well.
My local Gamestop didn’t receive any copies. The girl behind the counter didn’t mention any of the other 3 in the area having any either. They did have plenty of copies of Tokyo Xtreme Racer DRIFT 2 and Shrek the Third in, though…
AOF3 sure plays different from Garou…or even AOF 1 & 2 for that matter! It’s definitely the most fun game of the 3, despite its (mostly) lame cast. Jin Fuha,Wong Koh-San,Lenny Creston and Rody Birts just weren’t as interesting as Takuma,Yuri and Eiji. Kasumi was funny as hell, though! The way she took out her notebook everytime she tried to say something was awesome!
Okay, so I found my store actually had a copy today…
Oh, definitely…the gameplay is NOTHING like Garou. I was only refering to the animation and visual feel.
Actually, I think people would probably enjoy/appreciate AOF3 (and AOF in general)more if they didn’t approach it as “another SF/KOF style 2D fighter”. It’s not meant to be that (gameplay-wise, at least). It’s not cancel/two-in-one based like SF or KOF. AOF3 is more juggle and chain based. It has launchers and down attacks.
Heck, AOF3 is closer to Tekken or VF than it is to SF or KOF.
Yeah, the character design isn’t my favorite…but at least the scrubs are well animated. And, I like the whole “small town vibe” that you feel when playing the game. It’s a change of pace from the “World Warrior”, international battle royale theme that we’re used to. Is it supposed to take place in small Mexican town? That would make sense considering the Kyokugen ties to Mexico…but I’m not sure…
And, yes, Kasumi is the shiznit. Her urge to tell you off is so ferocious that she’s willing to learn English just to do it…IN REAL TIME.
Longest.
Winpose.
Ever.
Try the Gamestop.com locator thingy. It lets you check if any stores near you have any copies or if they’re going to get them:

Rest assured, ALL stores in my area had several copies of Shrek 3.
I’m not too familiar with the history of the snk universe but according to the AOF anthology instruction manual it says that AOF 2 is a “king of fighters” tournament where 12 fighters enter to compete to test their abilities or rake in the prize money.
That’s great news to hear. If that all comes true then all we need next is the garou series (aka fatal fury 4)
Im an SNK fan but unless you grew up playing these games, they are trash, AOF3 has probably the worst character designs Ive seen, its a shame because it looks great, atleast it gave birth to Kasumi Todoh.
What I always found odd about the 1st game is that Mr Big couldnt jump, which I thought was dumb.
Seriously SNK have been fucking up outside of japan, first the snk vs capcom ds fuck up, before that samurai showdown 5, why when 6 was out I never understood, and now this.
They wonder why they have shit sales, its no surprise after all that.
I’m late but these three games wierd me the fuck out. I thought I’d like it because I am a King whore, but, no. Everything just gives me an “eww” feeling.
Don’t feel bad… I knew I disliked these games yet I still bought them because I’m trying to encourage SNK playmore to brings us Last Blade 2-N-1.
I know some people like them, but I just feel the Art of Fighting series is incredibly clunky.
Yeah, it does feel more like the 3d fighters…without the 3rd dimension! I think you’re right about the game’s location. I don’t recall a single stage outside the borders of the tiny map you see before the fights start. It was nice to have the story focus on Robert instead of the Sakazaki family, but too bad it only brought two designs worth anything (Kasumi and Karman, and the latter is debatable),as well as the worst final boss I’ve ever seen (Wyler).
All in all, AOF is definitely very unique in its style, but it needed better implementation. The ki meter was a nice touch, but the gameplay felt way too clunky. I always found it hard to judge attack priority and hitboxes effectively, especially with all the zooming action of the first two games.
