Art of Fighting Anthology Shipped today

which is why I’d rather have this on my Xbox 360

Contrary to what my avatar may suggest…

I frickin hate Art of Fighting.

Glad to hear it’s nothing less than an average release (I’m still disappointed about the DS card game)

But damn, I wasn’t expecting it to be out until another week and a half, at least

It’s a small, but hopefully a right step in the direction. I can’t remember that last fighting game they released other than what’s from KoF

same here. i used to play AoF back then all the time since i couldnt get my hands on a copy of sf2.

i just played aof3 a few years ago and it sucks ass. however i never played aof2, only read about it in a gaming magazine. it looks like an improvement over AoF1 and i’m looking forward to playing that, mainly because lee is in it.

Weird.
Amazon has it listed for $15.

As for online play: online for Xbox/360 games is handled by MicroSoft. Online for PS2 games is handled by the game’s developer. Apparently, Capcom & SNK are too lazy to take care of online servers for their games, therefore PS2 games never have online, only Xbox ones do.
Online would be nice, but considering that I gave up on online fighters due to lag, I don’t really care whether or not there’s online play.

Capcom and SNK PS2 games do have online, just that it’s only in Japan, where no one uses it.

dont buy it, the games are horrible. even sf1 has better controls than this shit

I dunno about this one, I’m a fan of Ryo but i think I’ll pass until FF Special to play him. I’m just wondering if since the FF collection is being released as Vol.1 if we’ll get vol.2 so I can finally play RB2. Also i wonder if this means MOTW that’d be sweet, bought it on dreamcast but I have no stick and can’t use a DC controller for anything.

BTW I think that the Samurai Showdown 6 pack or KOFXI/NGBC would’ve been better as a first release. Samsho because alot of people know Haohmaru from CVS2 which is a very popular game amongst scrubs in my high school and so his game of origin would probably be interesting, and KOFXI and NGBC because they look the best and newest so i think either would actually sell well. US scrubs are suckers for games where you can switch your character in and out

Hahaha I gotta agree with you on that…esp the last sentence…lol.

Positive rep added!!!

If anything I’m glad to hear that someone from SNK gives enough of a crap to release anthologies to its small fanbase in the states.

Exactly. It’s easy to scoff at an AoF Anthology this late in the game, but the simple fact is that 99% of us would have never imagined this disc making to our side of the ocean (without importing that is). I see nothing but positives here. So what if it’s only Art of Fighting, for 15 bucks – little more than the cost of a movie nowadays – what’s to lose? The only way we lose is if we avoid making a purchase in hopes of “holding out” for another NeoGeo collection disc.

Funny, most people don’t seem to trust SNK USA far enough to tie their own shoelaces these days, yet they expect them to build and maintain a failsafe online service for what amounts to basically a niche game. I don’t get this. And even if they did manage to include an Online Mode, how many people would be completely satisfied and not complain about lag? Oh, and by the way, good luck finding this game for $15 with SNK’s added expense of maintaining their own online service.

For me, buying this disc was a no-brainer, not only to relive those old-school fighting game glory days (even if AoF was little more than a way to pass time while waiting for the SF and MK lines to die down), but to send a message to SNK USA that we definitely want to see more titles like this hit our shores.

And if you did buy AoF Anthology this weekend, be sure to register the game online and perhaps even drop SNK a line at info@snkplaymoreusa.com thanking them for the release. You don’t need to write an essay on the current state of fighting games, a sentence or two is fine.

Stay proactive and positive, and good things will happen.:wgrin:

What I think people are afraid of is this

AOF is released, sells below even the meager expectations, since saying it’s a good game series is deluding yourself- it really is the Japanese equivalent of Mortal Kombat. SNK then decides the US market won’t support the games people give a crap about, like KOF XI or UM, and instead we get Falcoonized MI crap forever- and SNK fans are stuck in the import ghetto again. Or that someone who doesn’t know SNK, or some kid’s daddy, gets them this collection, the kid hates it, and then hates SNK, or fighting games in general, forever.

I haven’t seen this game in any store in my area so far.
Plus, I’ve worked at Gamestop for the past 2 years, and I’ve never seen AOF Anthology on ANY of our release lists, EVER. I had no idea the game was even out until it hit.

wrong, mortal kombat is leaps and bounds better than this crap, at least for mk2 and 3

I think I’m just gonna wait for the fatal fury collection and buy that.

Why this and not KOF XI? That’s the first thought that popped into my head when I heard about this. I never played the series, so I can’t say if it sucks or doesn’t, but come on. They should have at least released something recognizable to the average gamer. I really hope they aren’t using this to “test the waters” out here.

As they can only release collections/packs of 2-D fighting on American Sony systems, the best thing we can hope for is that they’ll release XI and XII in America as a double pack once XII comes out.

Or maybe, instead of waiting for KOF XII, they could go ahead and release NW & XI as a double pack so people would have something to play while they wait for KOF XII.

Then what would they release with XII?

Personally I’d rather have XI/XII in English than Neowave/XI. Then again, they could do all three, although that wouldn’t fit with their traditions of doing double packs in America…

My God! How dare you imply that MVC2 players are scrubs!

You could’ve just said it!
