I’m going to buy this. Art of Fighting 2 and 3 are fun enough to warrant the marginal price tag. It’ll save me the hassle of buying them for my MVS, or at least help me decide if I want to lay down the cash for them.
I’d kind of like people to go out of their way to buy it to show SNKP they have an audience. You know, even if they don’t.
I’m always mystified when SNKP does things like this. Why on earth are they releasing this, but not NGBC or KoFXI? I had thought that their strategy was to release the best looking games in the US (leading them toward the Maximum Impact series), but…bah, I’m not sure even SNKP has a US strategy.
I’m all for releasing 2d fighting games, and I love SNK games, but WRONG FUCKING MOVE.
Who the fuck plays these games, I walk up to a random person and ask “Hey you know AoF?” No one knows what the fuck it is, but when I say King of Fighters, I know hella people who know it, or even Fatal Fury. Well FF is getting August so…
I used to play AOF way back but I never liked it, its just that it was the only fighter I could play at that time. I’ll probably buy this and give it another shot since I didnt really know much about fighter back then, plus its only $15 right?
SNK is out of touch with reality if they think this game will sell. I’ll support them, but not this. What really needs to happen is SNKP Japan should take the region coding out of their games, and just sell the Japanese games in the US- they’d make more money that way.
Bought it yesterday, here’s what I’ve noticed so far in comparison to the Japanese version:
The SNK “timewarp” video intro has been ripped. Not really a big deal, all that really says is that SNK doesn’t have immediate plans to release each and every NeoGeo compilation over here. Let’s hope the success of this disc changes that.
As I expected, Online Mode is gone. Not a big deal to me, but for anyone who was expecting it, well, it’s not here.
Color edit is still in there.
Some button functions have been switched.
Default game language is now English (surprise!).
I was faintly hoping for some mention of “FF Battle Archives Vol. 1 - COMING SOON!” in the instruction booklet, but… no.
Just like the Japanese version, there are no training modes or in-game movelists.
Other than that, it’s pretty much what I expected, all three versions of these games are about as “AES accurate” as I can remember (Max 330 Mega Pro-Gear Spec!). No mid-game loading times, everything loads when you select a game. People will undoubtedly have mixed feelings about the overall quality of this series, but if you’re an old-school fighting game fan, AoF3 is well worth the fifteen bucks alone.
Oh, and by the way, my local game store had one (yes, one) copy in stock.
I’d consider getting this at some point…but it’s not at the top of my priority list. I’d be excited of Fatal Fury Collection…if I didn’t already have the JPN version :p.
I don’t know. When I first heard about this, I figured that it was just for people who wanted to add more shit to their SNK collection, because I don’t remember this series being popular at all in NA back in the day. No matter though, I’d definitely cop this, especially with it’s reduced price. Pretty much though, FF collection is what I’m waiting for, along with everyone else.
It’s mind boggling that there is no Online Play. Do they expect this to be a big party game? It’s an obscure fighter with a limited fanbase.
There are gamers that will give games like this a chance just because it’s online. I expect this Anthology to die out quickly like Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. You gotta have online play!
