you don’t have carry your “papers”, you just need legit identification that you should be carrying with you anyway…and even then if you’re going about your day, not breaking the law then you shouldn’t have anyting to worry about.
i’ve been randomly stopped by the police walking down the street bcuz i “fit a description” twice, i showed my ID and went on my way. if i didn’t have ID, it probably would’ve been an issue…but what grown ass man doesn’t generally carry fucking identification? if the cops randomly stop some illegal immigrant for some innocuous shit and they can’t produce ID (bcuz immigrant or not that is the first thing police always ask you) then they should be hauled off. the only difference now is that when cops find out someone is illegal they can take them to INS rather than letting their illegal ass walk away and continue breaking the law with their existence.
Probable cause, reasonable suspicion, probable cause… let these terms sink into your head. Maybe you should try reading the previous sentence a couple more times.
I have to partly disagree with you.
I agree that the whole countries will not immigrate and cause their former country to disappear.
I disagree that they send their money back to their former country to benefit that country. They send the money back to save up and bring the next wave. These illegal immigrants are not going back, they have kids here and stay because they build families here. It is a safe haven here instead of where they came from.

i think you’re missing the fact, that they still can’t (legally) do that. it’s just like seat belt laws in most states, it’s illegal to not wear a seatbelt and you get a ticket…but you can’t be pulled over for not wearing your seat belt.

I don’t see what the nation being founded by immigrants has to do with people breaking U.S. laws. Also I will agree there are racial undertones and outright racism in the debate about immigration. However the basic argument has nothing to do with racism. The laws are clear that you can not cross over to another country without proper papers and I.D. It’s a safety, social and economic issue more than a racial one. The racism aspect gets more viewers on the nightly news though.

The law, to my understanding, says that suspicious behavior is the grounds for asking somebody for identification. Aren’t people who assume that “racist cops are going to use this to pull over Mexicans” engaging in the same type of stereotyping of which they are accusing police?

Not that this is an official law that makes it illegal or wrong or anything. The two are simply inconsistent.
the law doesn’t say that you can be pulled over bcuz you appear to be a illegal immigrant, that’s what people think it means bcuz they’re too lazy to read it for themselves.
as i said before, they need a reason to be engaging a person beyond “he looks like an illegal immigrant”, but once they do engage that person if the suspicion arises they can press the issue…the best way to not be suspected of being an illegal immigrant is to show your ID with your given name on it as that is the first thing cops ask you.

Even though this is illegal, it already happens so you ain’t saying shit. They have Gang Task Force just for that where I live, if you fit the profile you are getting pulled over if they see anything at all wrong with your car. Check your license, registration, insurance. If anything is out of order, they are tearing your car apart looking for weapons and drugs.
