Are you the worst Sakura Player? Vent here

I feel like a really bad Sakura right now. Seeing a lot of good vids of Sakuras, I feel that I disgrace the Sakura name. All I do, is straight on attack. I can’t do the Sakura combos. The only combos I know how to do is the L DP to M DP and the EX Hurricane to Ultra. But that’s about it and I whiff these combos a lot of the times. Boo for me.

You’re not the only Sakura player that doesn’t know how to combo. I know just one simple combo as well, but Sakura has so many other options to win a fight; All though they would make life easier for me since you can win fights faster… Hmm when do I get my stick?!

Hit up that training mode! It’s the only known cure for “I don’t know the combos”

LOL and don’t cheat like I do and leave auto-block off… you turn that shit on and you get the timing RIGHT!

thats right ive spent hours in training mode. thats the only way to learn the combos and also learn the most effective combos. just go to training and get down the timing for things. that was always the thing i hated about combos is that you had to be precise, thats why i played mvc2 it was just mashin. but once u learn the timing u feel a lot better about everything

Trial mode helps with combos too, the normal trials will help you with getting rhythm for simple stuff like jump in-normal-special 3-“hit” combos

I gotta say though, this is the only Street Fighter game I can do combos on properly :stuck_out_tongue: Getting a simple s.HP xx Shou on Alpha 3 was really hard for me :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m only like 3-4 months into the game, so I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I just hope whatever I learn is applicable/carries over to Super.

Heck, it’s only now that I’m really starting to understand the wakeup stuff, the do’s and don’ts of characters’ Ultras, and the advanced Focus shenanigans.

*Don’t forget, the Ra-Ri-Ru-Re-Ro sounds are almost like using an “L”. In phonetic Japanese, Sa-Ku-Ra would sound like “Saw-Kuu-Lah” with a short “u” and subtle "L’. That’s what annoys me about Juri… people keep saying “Jury”… one guy even asked why the Japanese keep saying “Julie”. That is how it sounds, “Juu-Lee”, again, with a subtle “L”.

Anywho, I have around 1000-2000ish games. I was actually rocking 60-75% win rate the first few months. I think I’m around 50% right now, which is good, in my opinion. The scrubs are being weeded out by some good talent. Whenever I find a fantastic player, I’ll keep losing to learn something(unless they get on my nerves).

I have a higher win rate with El Fuerte… People just have no clue on how to defend against him, and its easy wins. Even if they do halfway decent, his ultra gives me the dubya.

Honestly, I got frustrated when I picked up Sakura. I got her main BnB link down in training, and felt confident to take her online. Still, she doesn’t have the runaway and quick in your face game that Elf has. It was the first time I’ve truly experienced fireball traps = , and lost a lot. But… it’s a blast now. There’s no greater feeling than seeing that HP connect… you just need one normal to connect, and you got a stun… At times, I feel like I’m playing a broken and cheap character. Poop on her ultra though… if I want free damage without a mixup game, I’ll just otoshi. I mainly use Sak’s ultra as a punish or focus crumple attack.

After gaining great momentum with Sakura, I’ve convinced myself to pick up Dan too. So far, I got maybe 2 wins with him(including a perfect) >X ).

Umm… no. There are no ‘L’ sounds in Japanese, to a Japanese person ‘R’ and ‘L’ sounds the same but they’ll always pronounce it with an ‘R’, that’s why they say stuff like “herro”.

In phonetic Japanese, (which is just Japanese, it’s all phonetic) sa-ku-ra is pronounced sa-ku-ra, exactly like that. Watch Naruto in Japanese or something, it’s a distinctive ‘R’ sound (note this is the only time I’d recommend watching that show, it’s really not that good :P).

The kana for Juri is written “ju-ri” (or jyu-ri depending on which kana table you find). The fact that the English is written “Juri” is enough to show that that’s how they want it, they’re not completely cut off from the world I’m sure they have translators and such otherwise Cammy would be spelt like “kyami” etc. etc.

“Ryu” in kana is actually written “ryu-u”, it’s an extended ‘u’ sound so technically if you’re not writting the extra ‘u’ you should write it like this “Ry?”. The same’s true for “shoryuken”, it’s actually “shouryuuken” with an extended (low) ‘o’ sound and extended ‘u’ sound.

That’s your Japanese lesson for today :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s no L sound because R is considered a decent replacement. When you learn Japanese, you learn to flop your tongue on the R sounds, so they sound like a mix between R, L, and D(for tongue position).

Check out "???(Linda Linda) by the Blue Hearts:

The actual romanji lyric is “Rinda Rinda” due to the rolling of the R into an L.

<- and there’s a nice Japanese lesson by a native tongue, so you can hear the sounds.

I play less safe than ever lately, and thats equaled more losses… I think its because I’ve gotten so comfortable that I all out rush down these days… I guess I need to stop.

I was led to believe it’s because they only have that many phonetic sounds in their “alphabet”, which is why Japanese people who aren’t accustomed to foreign languages, particularly English, aren’t able to properly “reproduce” what they hear because they hear it different from us.

The romanji lyric being “rinda” is because there’s no “li” kana so obviously it comes out as “ri” instead. “Linda” being an English word, their “ri” is the closest they have to our “li”.

I get what you’re saying now but saying Sakura is pronounced “saw-kuu-lah” is still wrong :stuck_out_tongue: http://genkienglish.net/genkijapan/katakana.htm is better. Must say it’s weird, sounding more ‘L’ like than ‘R’ but definately sounds more like ‘R’ when in a word shrug Chalk it down to our ears not being accustomed to Japanese, the same way theirs aren’t accustomed to English.

There’s Japanese Dan saying “Sakura” at the start.
English Dan seems to have said it properly

Played again at our local tournament. Still cant believe i don’t have the tournament play mentality down yet. Been playing really impatient and throwing out random moves which leads me to always losing. There’s another tournament next month and it’s gonna definitely be different. So mad at myself!

I feel like I’m good than most with every shoto. Except for Sakura… I just can’t figure out how to effectivelly fight with her.

I only managed to rise Sakura up to 1400BP, and I usually lose to high ranked players.

Anyway today I realized something that just can help a bit. Sometimes you’re playing for example a Ryu that knows what he’s doing, and you simply know you can just forget about jumping on him so you have to stay on the ground. Ruy’s footsies are great, much better than Sakura ones, so there’s no way to aproach him enough without eating his in-famous c.MK, Hadoken combo, even using the focus attack does not guarantee a clear approach to him and you can be punished in the end by all the previous damage…

…so I just tried to go back to basics and use her pokes. I realized s.HK has more range than his c.MK, the s.HK hitting leg is far from ground so it avoids the Ruy’s c.MK, and I was quite surprised how many times I just landed that poke on him. Of course in the end I had him cornered, attempted a (c.LK, Light Hurricane Kick, c.MK, Special Move) combo and he DP’ed me in between the link of (Light Hurricane Kick, c.MK) and FADC, Ultra, I lose.

Point here is against players you know you can’t jump on them, rely on the s.HK, and use it wisely, on the other side if they are just jumping on me a lot I use either c.HP , backward/neutral Air Hurricane Kick or even backward j.HP because it has better horizontal hitbox than j.HK. Notice that you have to be sure before using c.HP, it is the most rewarding option of this three, but it is also the most unsafe one, because if you time it wrong you’re just gonna get your ass raped by some combo!

Another way of getting closer is using hard or EX versions of Hurricane Kick. Both of them avoids fireballs and are safe on block… if you made it that far, because you can be DP’ed in any moment of the combo if it does not hit soon.

See, I hear the R and L at the same time, kinda like arigato, sounds like “ahr-lee-got-toe”, just fast.

Ryu, in Japanese:

You can hear the L’s, big time. You can hear the D and R sounds too, kind of a combination of the three.

Anyways, enough of our bickering, tomato tamato = p, right

If you think she’s a shoto then that’s your problem right there. You have to play her differently because you can’t zone with her fireball, so you have to work your way in and then beat them with mixups and mind games.

Sounds like 'R’s to me hehe, sometimes the ‘R’ is so fast it just comes out like “yuu”. For the longest time I thought “ryoukai” was “youkai” :stuck_out_tongue:

I can definately see what you’re saying though, wiki describes it as being somewhere between an L and a R sound, I just think of it as a “soft” R lest not I confuse myself anymore :stuck_out_tongue: I was never that good at languages :stuck_out_tongue:

So after taking a break from Sakura for a while, I decided to get back on the bike Saturday night and see if I had “after a break” good execution. Well needless to say, I went 0-34 with her in player Matches. :annoy: Back to the drawing board…

:wasted: Sorry man… Do you main Sakura? Or is she an alt for you?

Nothing wrong with losing to a better player. If you lose to some scrubby spamfest then that’s something to think about x_x;;

I get quite a few good people in player matches, probably more challenging than what I’d get in the majority of G2.
