Yea charge motion for U2 defeats the purpose I think that U2 usefulness in deterring new characters yomi mix ups like ibuki, viper, and elf was too much for them.Charge makes using U2 this way more difficult. Also with U2 it not only flipped the script on shotos but some characters like cody, sagat,sim can get U2 OS off a safe jump if they backdash for cody this includes ex zonk and for sim wake up teleport. Charge eliminates this.If your opponent is spamming backdash depending on the character they too can eat a psycho abortion. It really fit in with the model that capcom set forth with bison that us as players had to outsmart I took the meaning as bait our opponents not land a st.hk runaway poke here and there end of story. Because before a bait nets you for the most part a 210 dmg combo or a st.hk which is nothing compared to the reward for other characters.Bait a headutt or sumo splash U2, fei’s kick U2, vipers bk U2, and so forth.Akuma uses a teleport he gets the planned parenthood special.But with all that the ultra isn’t as dumb as rufus u2 or as game changing as guile having charge time reduced while adding so much meter which they dropped the ball.Could you imagine reducing bison’s sk kick as much how stupid it would be and it isnt the like guile who has the safest projectile in the game.
I am not saying bison is a bad character he is solid but it baffles me why capcom would make such a drastic move to an even though useful but underpowered ultra.
I agree Guru, it baffles me that capcom would give us such a nice ultra that helped Dic out alot against characters that kept him out and can run away all day from a Bison with no meter. AND THEN TAKE IT AWAY!!! The thought honestly boils my blood, who was complaining so much that they felt they had to do that? Whats with them nerfing everything they can think of? And a charge defeats the purpose of having that ultra, its hard enough to land as it is. And that is why upon hearing that capcom is fucking us like that I have prettty much changed back to U1, where before it was always U2 for me. But I mean U1 can be way better for AA than U2 and it has almost the same uses with more damage. THANKS ALOT CAPCOM for making one of our best tools useless in a tourney situation again!!! oh and fuck you too CAPCOM, FUCK YOU!!!

I only hope the nerf to the ultra brings out a few buffs in some manner. I’m mad this is happening, but something good had better come of this if the changes do stick from the location test.
if the charge for pp stays, bison is not being used anymore. the whole point of it is fear. without a motion ultra used for punishing fire balls, he isnt really a threat without charge. u1 can punish fireballs moving forward. shit better change son fa real

guyz, i finally figured out why capcom is nerfing u2. They obsly read this dude’s review of the game and got super pissed when he said Bison’s u2 was “useless” so they decieded to make it useless for real

Yep case closed and nothing to see here folks, someone who was just piggybacking on his dmg and health in vanilla to get him wins is salty that he got toned down in Super.

PLease Capcom donn’t take away my U2 qcf. If its charge then its useless and with less damage and mostly the same uses as U1 it will be an unused ultra.
If it’s a charge motion which I’m only ok with with a massive damage buff and/or much faster start up.

All capcom keeps doing is nerfing characters… why would we ever hope for them to give us something extra if they nerf the ultra to charge. I want to know why they feel they need to nerf it in the first place?
On a serious note, I’m positive Capcom makes changes according to what they feel the character should play like. Like Guile *should *or hang with fireball wars. BAM~! 50f charge. A first in the history of Street Fighter.
I still think, if this charge Ultra 2 goes through, Capcom really wants Bison to use it more consistently. I firmly believe they will change something else about it. Honestly I don’t feel too great about relying on a 50/50 chance to land Ultra 2. I do want consistency. If I have to charge for this, I’ll have to be in a position to react to it and it must land with high frequency. And that’s a good indication of consistency.
Here’s three things I’m looking for in SSF4:AE, and if I choose to pick a new character, still same criteria:

[]Good normals and pokes. Footsies is a psychological metagame in itself already.

I don’t know if you have ever been in a tourney Tony, but its different than anything else. Your opponent wont move if they have the life lead. Alot of the time they will just sit there until you loose charge cause you have to push them. And when you play an opponent like that who has FBs there will be no chance EVER to land U2. And that was his problem in Vanilla, while rog and honda have really fast ultras that go strait through FBs, bison’s didn’t work on near the same level and that hurt him alot. That update will put him right back where he was… solid mid tier or B tier or whatever you want to call it.
lol. damn, now Bison really is starting to sound like my smash main Kirby, and he’s top of C (mid tier) almost B tier. He use to be A tier when the game came out but people figured out his chain grab shit and he dropped.
I don’t have any problems with Bison using just u1, im doing that now and it’s fine. I honestly think the point of changing u2 is because capcom wants us to play Bison carefully and focus on defenses, and that’s how I’ve always played him so idc. However my Bison is rather strange and not like other people’s Bisons, most people love rush down with him so i feel bad for the players who enjoy playing Bison this way =/
I will say this, they fuck anything else up with him (funny you mentioned chip damage Tony, i was worried capcom would remove it from l sk or something that would royally gay him), be it chip damage, priority, start-up, range, or even a damage nerf I will drop him 100%- and when that happens you know what im going to do?

i bought ssf4 because of Bison. He is my favorite character. Fuck Chun, fuck Guile, Fuck Juri or any other character I have attempted to play. They all lame as hell. I already had to deal with Jigglypuff being nerfed, im through playing handicaped characters. Not going down that road again.

This exact thing is why I hate the U2 change. I know this is exactly whats going to happen as things stand now with the changes we have heard about.
I’ve gone to some small tournies. People are more cautious and nervous IRL most of the time. Plus, when you have a tall bulky guy like me sitting next to you, you better be scared. lol
I’m not too worried about people sitting patiently to wait for me to drop my charge and move forward. To be fair, most of the tournament Bison in U.S. and Japan kind of just go and gun down the other guy, it doesn’t matter if they are sitting back. The opportunities to REALLY land the Ultras are slim. Their best bets are usually 50/50 and it’s not safe. Look at Kim vs Justin. Look at Kuma at Nagoya. Look at Yipes, Sanford, and Andre’s Bison. They’re already in that mind set that of not really relying on the Ultra as much, so they’re dishing out other tools to damage and bait.
Just look at it like this, statistically shotos just need to deal about 60% damage worth of stuff from normals, throws and specials, the latter 40% can be completed with their Ultras. Bison just has to kind of deal 80-90% damage off normals, throws and specials. The match always dynamically change when X or Y gets their Ultra meter filled so their options broaden up while Bison might be stuck in plan A of things; chipping, trapping, and baiting off normals, throws, and specials.
I like your state of mind Tony. It is true that that should be the mindset for a Bison player, but U2 made it way easier to get close to a zoning character because you didn’t need charge so they have to really watch what they do once you have your ultra. But overall yeah I totally agree with what your talking about.
I’m not sure you fully understand, Tony. The threat of U2 is more important than actually landing it. It forces projectile zoners to let you dictate the pace and most are not used to that.
Being able to land the Ultra is the threat. Which goes back to what I was saying about consistent setups and do not want 50/50’s the way it is right now.
so your saying that you want another way to juggle into the ultra rather than anything else? That would be great, but I highly doubt thats ever gonna happen. And actually this is just me but upon hearing this news of them changing U2 to charge I have pretty much already dropped U2.
But I do like the 50/50 setups alot, sucks they are putting more recovery on it to make it even more unsafe. What is capcom thinking? How come they are making so many changes? Seth needs to do an interview to explain to all of us wtf capcom is thinking…
