Anyone ever play video games with their parents?

pops rented madden 99 back in the day and so i said ill play him and after 2 touchdowns he broke the disk!!! and that was that…

This thread has made me do nothing but cry about my dad for the last 5 minutes.

Good shit, SRK.

I used to play mario kart 64, goldeneye, and timesplitters with my dad. Cheap ass hahaha he always picked the monkey in timesplitters.

I have this memory where I actual got my mom to sit down and play SF2 with me. I had no knowledge of the game back then at all, since I was kid, so my mom mashed her way to victory and BBQ’d my ass. Since that day, I always tried to get her to have a rematch, but her words always were something along the lines of: “Nah, you’ll just get mad when I kick your ass again.”

Fucking cold blooded.

Does Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 count? My dad is a total aviation/RC junkie.
My mom also tried helping me to complete a level in old version of Jumpstart 5th Grade. We gave up on it.

mario party and soul calibur

I bought a racing wheel for PC and called my father and he drove a level on the game Live for Speed. He managed to get through but felt a little dizzy since he wasnt used to complex graphics and preferred flash games.

My mom when she was young, used for a while to play Dig Dug on the Atari 2600. Almost 20 years later I gave her a gamepad to try out the arcade version on MAME. Of course she lost immediately.

Dad bought me my C64, my mum and him used to play Paperboy at night, they never told me this for about 5 years lol

Wasn’t till I was in my 20s I played with them, they still had the opinion games were like paperboy and weren’t a challenge. So I booted up Fifa on my xbox and gave my dad a game. He was awe struck by the audio and visual detail and complexity of the game. He’s a surgeon but he couldn’t figure out how to control the players  So I thought I’d familiarise him with modern day controllers by playing Boom Boom Rocket.

It’s too much for him so he’s turned into a big fan of golf on the Wii

When I was a kid my mom always loved the original Zelda, so we would play that together.

I used to play Streets of Rage 1 with my mum on occasion while she would be cooking on a Sunday, inevitably I would end up trying to throw her into a pit (Lol) and end up getting clapped by her lol, " Stop attacking me!" CLAP!. She also completed Sonic 1 before I did.

The real ish was playing my dad on Killer Instinct on the Nes tho, those were good times! My dad was one of the typical button mashers but ( altho looking back Im not sure lol) but he would ultra combo me and knock me off the roof on a regular basis…shit was like magic. I was pretty young so I used to rage hard haha, " HOW DID U DO THAT!" but that fucker would never tell me lol. I loved it tho and probably one of the reasons Killer Instinct is one of my favourite fighters of all time. What u know about the old man button mashing the FUCK out of the pad and then all of a sudden u realise you’re losing and then " ULTRA COMBOOOOOOO!!" I don’t even think salty accurately describes it haha. Good times. I’m starting to think he mighta put in work while I was away, still goes on about beating me all them years ago - " Im like hey, step up, we can do this right now!" <-- REVENGE!

Oh and my dad was fuckery, to get a new game I had to show that I had mastered the previous game. So even tho I had Metroid and other games, to get a new fighter I had to beat my dad with every single character in Killer Instinct! In the end he beat me with Spinal or someone and knocked me off the roof…on the last fight, using the last character ( I think Jago or some shit)! Still got the game tho and I plan on doing the same shit to my kids haha

Dammit, I miss those days, my younger brothers aren’t into fighters like that, which I’ve never understood. Come to think of it a lot of the younger generation in my family aren’t into fighters instead Fifa and Cod :expressionless: When I was young, whether it be playing my dad or with my boys, knocking someone the fuck out was the ultimate par…the epitome of competition for me…even to this day. Different strokes tho I guess.

Not really *with *my parents. My dad came into my room every now and then to get his fix of Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts. He was way better at it than me, but he never felt like beating it twice in a row to get the real ending. I don’t blame him.
He also complained that the SNES controllers were way too small for his hands.

Well, I’ve played Wii Boxing with my father once. That’s something. :coffee: Then there’s my mother who wants to play video games with me at times. I love her to death, but honestly it gets annoying after a while. She doesn’t want to play Mario Kart Wii because it’s too fast and Just Dance because I pick the hardest songs to play. There’s the Zumba game she wanted so badly but then got angry because she had to wear a belt seeing she got the Wii version, but that because she saw the Kinect version first, when you don’t need anything. She hated it, then tried to get me to play. That game wasn’t even a workout; in other words, it sucked ass. I might as well trade that for Persona 4 Arena.

My cousins and I used to play Tekken and Soul Calibur all the time, though.

I always thought I was the best Fg player in my family when i was about 10. Hell i was doing the 38-43 hit ultra combos with orchid on KI1, but my mom had a killer spinal. No combos just pure RY(our)SD. I used to rage so hard.

Lol, imagine a grown black man playing ultimate muscle with his kids. That was my step dad, and man was he awesome. We played nfl blitz, madden, halo, mario kart, and wwf no mercy. He even used to watch yugioh with me back when it was the koo thing to do in middle school. I still laugh at how frustrated he got when they rolled out season 3 of the series, “man, mokuba keeps getting kidnapped every damn time. they NEED to leave his dumb ass at home” lol.

ive played tmnt turtles in time with my grandfather he pretty good he knows the controls and can keep himself alive in the game for a long while

Use to play Contra and maybe some other 2-player games with my dad when I was younger. When the PS1 version of Road Rash came out we would take turns and I would ask him stuff like why would you choose the girl character? And he would tell me that she is lighter so the bike would have a higher top speed.

Also took turns trying to beat the garage in driver. Once that was done he started playing the game and ended up beating it himself.

I recall my dad playing once, but that was it. He took me to his cricket games and I would play the arcade games there.

My first game was double dragon 2 on NES, and my dad and I played that game all the time. He would stay up late and play star tropics (and let me stay up with him if my mom was working) but I’m still not over the fact he beat it while I was asleep.

After NES though, his interest waned. We would play doom, myst, and warcraft 1 but that was it.

A friend’s dad used to play MK with us, and though we were all terrible, he originally helped me grasp the concept that normals were important to use, not just specials/uppercuts.

Great thread SRK. I’d like almost ever single post but I am TOO DAMN LAZY. /pretend likes for everyone
