Anyone ever play video games with their parents?

Once upon a time. Mom liked SMB1, dad liked Joust. Mom always did that thing where you jerk the controller when you jump, as if that helps . Now, mom grabs my sister’s ds during vacations and loves the crap out of Brain Age.

This is pretty much exactly what I was gonna post about my mom, lol.

Not my parents, but an uncle of mine was awesome.

Back in like 04 he had modded an Atari 800 to include a hard drive and we would play a bunch of Atari games for hours. The console had a keyboard so he had to do some commands that my teenage mind couldn’t comprehend in order to get the games running. He also let me borrow his Atari Jaguar, but I am sure he had a reason since the Jaguar was a pretty shitty console.

super mario brothers 1

my dad killed bowser in one of the castles i forget which

Yea, this was before American Pie popularized the term MILF, but pretty much all my friends when I was younger said some variation of “dude, your mom is hot!” I didn’t really like that shit then, but I’m over it now… plus, she got old and fat so…

I used to play galaga and pac-man with my dad. He used to be really good at galaga. I learned how to mash watching him. lol

I remember when i was a kid in the 90s my mom would play computer games with me like microman, some owl like pac man game.and Oregon trail which would always lead to death by snake bite

Ouroboros is right: Rain wasn’t a selectable character in the arcade UMK3.

He wasn’t useable in MK3, not UMK3. From memory UMK3 had Noob and Rain and MK3 had Sheeva. (I think?)

You sure? Hmm… interesting. Maybe my memory deceives me. I specifically remember that there was a crowd, and that there was hype. He always mained Rain on the Sega version, I just assumed he used him there. o_O

[details=Spoiler]My father started me on the Commodore 64, and man he had a SHITLOAD of games, demos, bootlegs, etc. I’m talking 500+ games at least, a lot of which for free. I was always amazed about that - especially since we’re black and shit wtf - then when I got to high school I discovered emulators and destroyed that number 10 times over. Fate. :coffee:

There was an Atari 2600 too, but I ignored that shit after playing E.T.

After that, he got me an NES Christmas of `90 and only one game: Super Mario Bros. 3. I played that game like crack on a proxy. Ended up having 50+ games for it, a lot being games he played or heard about (Vindicators, Thundercade, Burai Fighter, Tiger-Heli, Alien Syndrome) or recommended by my cousin (Tecmo World Wrestling, Metal Gear/Snake’s Revenge, Bionic Commando) and of course what commercials and Gamepro TV hyped to me (Battletoads/Double Dragon, TMNT II). I dreaded my father going to Funcoland by himself because I just knew he was going to chill there for a good minute to get his gaming and intel on…

During this time, we both played a lot of arcade games, either together (Road Riot 4WD) or individually with fighting games (him with Virtua Fighter, me with everything except MK for obvious reasons*). Good times.

Next up was the Genesis, Christmas gift with Sonic 2…and SFII CE. Too. Much. Crack. Then later a 32X. The only games he played on that was Virtua Fighter as I finally showed it attention due to his own hype until Tekken stiff-armed the shit outta it, and Metal Head, the latter becoming a precursor to what my father really loves to see with serious graphics: mech games.

[ * = my father was video-game savvy, and he bought into quasi-banning violent games after ESRB was born when I was young in fear I would get a corrupted dead-beat lol. Games that had nudity and “photo-realistic violence” like MK then were off-limits with certain exceptions. Back to the 2600, there was a perverted game called Custer’s Revenge, it was around the 32X timeframe I tried to use the “ol’ shitty graphics it not real” excuse to him but he wasn’t buying it lol. Doom was OK because he understood it was pixelated violence, MK I could not own but he gave me time to play it at neighbor’s but rarely at the arcade (graphics excuse!!1). And GTA was definitely hell no. I’m happy for dat discipline tho, although games like Cosmic Carnage and Wu-Tang Shaolin Style slipped under his radar like a motherfucker ]

PlayStation era: My father thought I was semi-destructive in handling things, I chalked it up to butterfingers and bad luck. If you noticed, all the systems I had thus far were diskette- and cart-based. He often stated he would only give me a CD-based system if he changed the games himself and I instantly knew he wasn’t going to revolve “my time”. Eventually, I got older and more careful but I still felt that stigma like dayum I’m gonna be in college before I get a Saturn at best.

I had an all-around bad year in `96 and when Christmas time showed up I flat out told him I didn’t care what gifts he would take back to Toys R Us (Santa died a long time ago) because I was mad, and I actually cherished everything I already had. December 21st shows up, and he whips out a PS1 with Contra Legacy Of War, brand new, saying that’s what I lost, GGPO son. One of the rare times in my life my jaw dropped from complete surprise.

The good thing about though… I didn’t see a PS1 again until Christmas 369 days later, but when I did, Bushido Blade, Armored Core, Tekken 1, and FFVII was also seen. Fate. :coffee:

My father began losing vision due to macular degeneration, but it still didn’t slow him down. Bushido, Armored Core, and Tekken 3 (Gun Jack…he loves fucking mechs) were played often, although he could only play me in T3/Bushido due to his ailment. He wasn’t Blind Nigga Samurai™ by any means but it still was bad-ass on his part, Bushido Blade in particular was perfect for us to play actually.

His vision got real fucked over time, so it pains me a little when I talk about games I’ve played from PS2 on up knowing he can’t see them. Cruel fate. :coffee:[/details]

My mom hated video games, and always tried to throw mine away. Thankfully, I was always one step ahead of her in that department.

I taught my mum how to Hadouken in Alpha 3, and that was pretty much it lol. Other than that, my parents have no interest in games.

When I couldn’t sleep, my dad would play Battle Chess and Time Lord with me. He also whupped my ass mercilessly in John Elway.

Haha, my dad relished whupping my ass in Bases Loaded and Tecmo Bowl.

Did he use the Bootleg play? That’s like Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl but w/ NBA Jams on fire turbo…

Anyway, as a kid my parents never played videogames w/ me & my bro. All they did was buy every single game system that was available for us but never bought games for it…

So pretty much
Not sure what console it was but it came with Galaga, Pacman, & Dig Dug…
Famicom - Super mario Bros, some Ninja game, & Tyson Punchout
NES - Super Mario/Duckhunt
SNES - Supermario World
Genesis - No game until they got the Sega CD which came w/ Sherlock Holmes
PSX - Battle Arena Toshiden demo
Saturn - Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, & Virtua Cop
N64 - No games, never bought one game for this system haha

So our only form of playing any other game was either borrowing from friends or walking 3 miles to rent a game. Would have been sweet if had one of those online videogame rentals at the time, i swear you youngsters got it good…I was more of an arcade person though…

So naturally the first thing i did was get my asian wife to buy me an arcade room, i play with my kids in there & they love it & their little friends too…Mostly Shmups, Puzzles, & Balloon Fight…Not much fighting games…My dad sometimes comes over & we play some Sports Shooting USA, Ranger Mission or Extreme Hunting…My dad plays with my kids in whatever game they want to play. Its funny how he can knock me the fuck out & never really had time to play with me & my bro…Once he became a grandpa, he like totally changed…Taking my kids out to the movies, going to parks, buying them clothes, toys, games, etc…I think in Father’s day i need to pay him back w/ a TAP for real!

This thread brings back nice memories
I used to play the playstation 1 with my parents a lot. My mom and I usually played crash bandicoot and tekken and my father and I usually played street fighter: the movie battle (yes lol). I had too many games as a kid, and still have all the games in big binder.

me and my dad played cod spec ops. hes not bad. but he cant play online.

Never really played anything with my parents. Just watched my mom try to play Super Mario Bros. a few times. That’s about all I could remember. They just weren’t interested in gaming and I never really tried to get them to play often.

My mom almost beat me literally in Wii Sports (Tennis). She just kept swinging the WiiMote so hard as if she were in a real Tennis match that I actually had to duck.
