why do you think its extra money? what if those extra characters would not have been developed if Capcom didnt have the DLC money coming in to pay for them.
also, consider that buying a used game puts money back into the pockets of someone who buys new games.
You can make assumptions all you want and keep putting out cookie cutter insults about money, my point still stands. Everything in the world should naturally be driven down to the lowest price when out in a competitive market. You can enjoy overpaying for products and getting swindled, I don’t stand for that.
You do have a fair argument here, but the the thing is that the multiplayer component of a game can extend the life of a game indefinitely. The COD series has little to no modifications each year, and yet an incredible amount of players still thoroughly enjoy it and play it for hours on end. It’s because of the multiplayer. Games like 3rd strike lasted for a decade competitively, doesn’t mean it should’ve been priced at hundreds of dollars, Super Street Fighter 4 should’ve costed more than vanilla. Starcraft 2 could’ve just added another race+new units with no new storyline, no new graphics, and gameplay would have been extended for years to come, etc etc. Games should have a natural progression of giving more content or quality as games get larger, have higher budgets, and the companies have more experiences and customer feedback. I see none of that in SFxT. I see poor quality control, poor design choices, and problems with gameplay (a lot of which will be patched out, a statement about how much time they spent on the QA) and they still have the nerve to take away a huge portion of development time for post game content, thinking they could just sit back and wait to out to get some extra money.
If you don’t understand how this is poor business practice, maybe you are the one stuck in a hole.
Also @ little goten, I was thinking about KOFXIII. But I am an online warrior since there are no local scenes, so its no go for me, sadly. I had hope with SFxT because of the scramble mode and be able have my friends enjoy fighting games as well.
All I know is, if my local Ghey!Stop! is any indication, and the word of the employees therein about sales across the whole chain means anything, then A LOT of people have decided to vote with their wallets.
It is not just a couple hundred diehards abstaining from purchasing SFXT.
The casuals have given a huge “Fuck you!” to Capcom, as regards this game.
I thought the wording was that there won’t be a disc-only release; meaning it could be disc and DLC. I remember thinking how ambiguous the statement was.
I really hate this way of thinking, money is not worth the same for everyone . The money I spend in videogames is money I’ve earned working and I didn’t work to throw away $60 buying any crap.
I wasn’t trying to insult you. To some people $60 is a lot of money and your previous quote made it sound like you thought so. I don’t think people who bought SFxT got “swindled”, I think the game and the content it comes w/ is worth what they are asking.
See underlined — I view sfxt as a progression. Tag battles, a new system/different mechanics, and oh ya I forgot… STREET FIGHTERS AND TEKKEN DUDES BEATING EACH OTHER UP!!! How cool is that? It’s a dream come true IMO. SF and TK were the fighting games I played most growing up so it’s amazing to see them in a crossover game. 38 characters is pretty good for a first game right out of the box considering half the roster, the entire tekken side, was made from scratch for the game. And then there are new SF characters that fans wanted such as Poison and Rolento, which is pretty cool. It’s got a ton of modes online and off. This is FAR more content than what people got with vanilla MvC3, so ya, I’d see that as progression.
all the faults you list next can be attributed to any game. All those things could be said of Marvel or SF4, and patches for games are something that is pretty much the norm and has been for years… I can’t think of a single fighting game this generation that hasn’t received a patch of some form or another.
As far as them making extra content to “sit back” on and wait for extra money… What is it you think businesses do? They make money and they need something to sell. Would I like all the content for free? OF COURSE!! But, I’d also not want Capcom to go out of business, as cool as it is to hate capcom, I love their games. I grew up on Street Fighter, I’ve spent countless days, if not months of my life playing their fighting games, and it’s been a blast. Capcom games are my roots and I still have fun w/ them to this day.
back on track — I might be mad if the game had like 15 characters total but it doesn’t… IT HAS ALMOST 40 CHARACTERS RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. I swear, no matter how many characters the game launched w/ it wouldn’t matter. If the starting roster was 60 characters people would still be going ape shit and feeling “ripped off”.
Another thing I don’t get is why people are even pissed off? If people hate the game as much as they claim they wouldn’t give a shit what Capcom is doing w/ it. The fact that threads like this and others exits proves that people care and want to play the game because they are angry — and you can only be angry about something you care about.
Until I see NPD numbers, this is just speculation and hearsay. And i question the fact that you’re saying casuals won’t buy the game because of lack of online couch co-op and missing characters. Hell if they’re casual, how do they even know this? Is your Ghey!Stop! “friends” not trying to sell the games to them? Last time I went to GameStop they were shoving pre-orders down my throat. Sounds like your friends are about to get fired.
And you don’t think this wasn’t half of the problem with SFxT? All that time devoted to DLC gems, DLC characters, DLC costumes, all done pre-release COULD have been devoted to proper testing of the netcode, adding features that actually mattered, y’know, actually having a finished product, not something completely half assed. Thats why it irks me that all this completed DLC is on disc, I don’t care if its being charged for.
Again you are just saying this, I’m an internet troll, I need proof However if you and your management are right, then Capcom will indeed notice the huge drop in sales and maybe do something to change it.
