They like many businesses thrive on the stupid and uninformed… Like OP!
Now you’re just being mean Me not stupid, just a little dumb sometimes.
I realize what a racket GameStop can be, but they do have decent deals from time to time. I just think the deal they advertised this morning is a little ridiculous.
As long as the games are going for less than $50 second hand anywhere while the deal is active I suppose you could just game the system and get the next gen version for a little less unless you’ve got to have some kind of proof you bought them at Gamestop to do the trade.
Ah link didn’t work last time and took me to the select country screen, clicked it again and yeah, can’t do that lol.
Whats so bad about gamestop?
Go in, Buy a game, leave. Simple.
What are you guys doing banking there?
They never have any copies of Battletoads in stock
During the Xbox One’s info release, you would’ve thought GS became the last bastion of “Free Choice” amongst gamers. Good to see things are back to normal, lol.
Yeah I’m gonna trade in my DS Lite at Disc Replay instead.
Go in

I agree. I just shop at all the mom and pop game stores that Gamestop put out of business… oh wait that’s right
I’d love to go to a mom and pop store that we have not too far away. However, not too far away is another town over while the closest Gamestop here I can walk to.
On top of that, I don’t have to deal with all the BS you guys tend to have to deal with. Only times I’ve had to spend more than 10 minutes inside were if it was a long line (rare), I don’t know what I’m looking for (one time because I forgot my brother already bought the game I was going to get him for his bday for himself), or if I end up running into someone I know (…a lot more common than I’d like to deal with).
Usually, go in, get/preorder game of choice, get out. If I need to trade in games, I can go elsewhere, but I rarely trade in games anyway because I always regret it.
That double trade in value deal is pretty sweet though. Thinking I will trade in 2 old iPhone 4s and snag about 5-600 in store credit. If pre-sales for PS4/Xbox Ones are still going, I know what im blowing it all on.
Well first of all lets tone down your expectations for your iPhone 4’s. Your getting about 200 maximum. Don’t expect more than that.
The fuck? Gamestop has trade in deals for phones?
…why does this guy have two?
So what you’re telling me is I can finally trade in all these stolen phones?
I am a drug dealer.
But on the real, I have a iphone5, originally owned a 4s. I was given another 4s for work, then they upgraded that phone and now I have two that I don’t use. Now I dont know if they will let me trade in both at the same time, but I know I can trade in one. So 200 for one phone I didn’t pay for is fine with me…
Wait though, are you single and is your job paying for a separate phone line? I ask because even though an extra ~$200 may be nice for a store credit the ability to have two phone lines for switching up between sets of women is worth more than that.
I bought and wore a belt like that circa 2009.
Down with corporate! Gamestop is evil because its a gaming business that provides services lacking from other retailers and is still brick and mortar. Those evil people who have more people coming in who DON’T know anything, that they have to assume we don’t know much! How dare they only give me X value for my trade in when most auction houses and eBay take anywhere from 10% to 20% of amount sold, and there is no guarantee of your item being sold, but they don’t bite their lip and accept my shitty copy of random PS2 game? Those assholes who have to pay RENT as well as employee fees every two weeks/month so they have to make profit, so they do so by any means possible!
I’m sorry SRK, I can get flagged, neg, whatever, ya’ll are dumb as HELL about this whole Gamestop thing. Not all ya’ll, but the mob mentality is ridiculously strong and over-powering.
To OP, no its not some great deal, but as others have pointed out, its not a scam or rip-off, especially if the new version of a game has new features and improved graphics (as mention ‘Dat Madden’). People talking about ‘waiting’ are only lying to themselves. Sitting around ‘waiting’ for a later version? Right…I can see a week or two MAX, especially for free swag, but like the idiots who bitch about MvC3 being a beta for UMvC3, the difference of having a game for 8 months to play offsets that cost immediately, and only ten bucks to offset the cost of playing a game for a few months before hand? Its actually pretty damn fair.
As for the rest of the GS shit, what’s the issue? Because someone greets you when you walk in the store and ask if you’ve heard about game ‘X’ coming out? Shit, being big black guy half the time, folks don’t even want to say ‘hi’ to me. WTF are they supposed to do? Ignore the people who come in? Assume everyone who comes in is super informed? A little game my wife and I played recently was find the Gamestop we were going to all the Walmarts in the area hunting down Skylanders - there was a Gamestop in the same shopping center as EVERY ‘real’ Walmart (not the grocery store variants). If you are all over the place, and acting as a symbiote to Walmart - then you are going to get all the random people wh oare leaving or going to Walmart and are just curious, so 95% of the people who come in aren’t going to be SRK level “I’ve built my own joystick” or “I root my own phone” type of folks…those are a TINY minority. Then people bitch about them re-selling games at a high price. How many of you guys have tried selling shit online? I’m not talking one random title, I’m talking about making a legit business model out of it? I’m doing the shit IRL right now and the cost can quickly get out of hand, between S/H, eBay tax, Paypal tax, trying to become a Top Rated seller so that my auctions and Buy It Nows are first or early on the ‘search math’…the shit is EXPENSIVE and eats at your bottom line QUICKLY and HARD. When I worked @ BB, our discount wsa what BB paid plus 5%, and I saw how little margin there was on video games (and learned that they only carried that kind of shit to get people into the store to buy the marked up shit like acessories and cables) - so when GS is selling a game for $60 new, they are making like $5 profit, that’s IT. McDonald’s has better return on it’s combo meals. So to stay open the mark up goes on their resells - as they should, otherwise, they couldn’t support themselves.
And then all the constant bitching will become “I can only go to Big Box Stores to buy stuff, where no one knows anything and would prefer to sell me cell phones”. Hop off GS dick, they are just another store trying to make a profit the legal way, and frankly, none of their methods are out of line or a scam. Stop looking at the shit so one sided, they take EVERYTHING you give them, unless it’s scratched up.
:sigh:
- :bluu:
All of that is pretty much true except for the “none of their methods are out of line” part. The one thing they did (do?) to piss me off is selling open games as new. THAT’S bullshit. I remember specifically one time they tried to sell me an open game as new that didn’t even have a book. They’re all “this is NEW!” I’m like, “fuck that I don’t even get a book, you need to take some money off.” I can’t remember if they took the money off or if I refused to buy the game, but that was some shady shit right there. Also since they’re able to reseal packages I’ve heard of people getting the wrong game, and no game from time to time which is pretty frightening as you’ve basically got no recourse if you don’t open it there in the store.
Other than that though there’s nothing hateable about them. Go in, say no a few times, get your shit and get out. It’s annoying, but I fail to see the purpose for the deep seeded hate.
I’m never bothered. I have headphones in every time I go to get anything from a Gamestop. “Do you want blahblah?” points to ears “Sorry, can’t hear you! Here’s my CC okay thanks bye dude!”
