And yet I do not mind at all.
Capcom, nor any other company is willing to base their income on whether gamers, specifically fighting gamers, think a game is good. A lot of the time it depends on the day, one day 3s sucks, another day its some international phenomenon. One day MvC2 sucks, another day it’s the modern-day HF.
If it sells as poorly as a flash game i made in my spare time, then yes. A weak game would sell ONLY a few hundred thousand or so just from the potential of the scene, 10,000 copies says there’s little potential to begin with.
The question is why appeal to the SRK public, as opposed to 1/1000 of the public of Resident Evil. It’s a competition for the budgets and the attention of the upper ranks, and the language they speak in is sales and marketing. “Some guy on the 100000th biggest internet forum wants us to make a good game” probably is not going to be a boardroom topic.
Capcom is in a big pond, their battles are with other major game manufacturers, if noone can prove that the best SF outsells the worst ‘Pokemon: the sequel i made over the weekend’, SF fans aren’t going to be helpful to capcom’s ultimate goals, and as such are not going to get resources assigned to them.
Are you smoking? AE has ZERO production, it’s throwing the characters from the other SF games into one game. It only exists because it was the only passable represenative on console of a game A3 or older and it had some minimal online play. The truth is that CCC1 HF is on a disc with 10 other games and it has more production IMO than AE, the only reason it’s not standard is because it’s HF and not ST.
Please tell me what part of AE’s production is beyond what anyone with the source can do with a pc and a spare week or two. At least CFJ presents some interesting challenges in mixing the game types, AE is 100% cut and paste.
That’s your choice, but your choices do not lead to anyone making good fighting games, thats all thats being said here.
I wasn’t aware that the “amount of production” (is there such a thing???) related directly to how “good” or “bad” a game was. As mentioned several times thus far: many people here are more interested in an emulated and arcade-perfect home version of a title than an over-produced and innacurate title.
AE was good. People liked it. How much production went into it means nothing. It sold well and had a good reception. CFJ on the other hand got a very poor reception. Again, the amount of work put into the title doesn’t always equate to fun factor nor market success.
That’s the complete opposite to what Sirlin suggested above. Now this is a dilemma. Who should I believe?
:whoops doble post:sweat:
It’s funny that the new stuff (pushblock, parry) is all in the new groove, the new one with the winged skull. It may end up being like EX-Groove or some other mode with a little bit of everything. The pic with Dark Sak has her in the old boss groove…CPU boss-mode Bison is in that, and if you play Survival or Dramatic Battle mode in A3 Sagat/Vega/Balrog/Juli&Juni are in that mode, also. It has A-ISm properties (air block, all supers available, etc), but no Alpha Counter (?), and you only get one level. Or, it could just be the most broken shit of all time.
A2 characters are gonna be good…Cammy is indeed in an A2 mode (by the color of the super gauge I’d actually guess A2Gold)…do high damage, no guard bar, CCs, better supers, ACs and ground recovery and throws. Unless they can get juggled to death because they have no air-recovery (which would be entertaining, but bad), They hold basically every advantage over A-ISM, though I’d guess they take a bit more damage, too. The only thing they lose are air throws and (probalby) air recovery. Then again, they don’t have as many normal moves, since A2 chars only had one set of normals, without changing depending on whether you’re close or far (not always a good thing, ie.Sakura). On top of that, we don’t know the status of V-ISM in the arranged version- could be the weakened Z3U version, or the better version from the arcade version.
Would be funny to see Honda in A2 mode. Decent ACs, no guard meter to worry about, higher damage, super that goes through fireballs… But I’d guess you couldn’t play him in A2 mode(s), like you can’t play SSF2 characters in WW/CE/HF modes in HSF2AE. And what of Dee Jay? Crazy fireball version from PSX/Saturn versions, or weakened one from later versions? Is he even in the game?
Valle-CC? What kind of guard damage do A2 characters do? Do they lose air recovery, but get all 3 ground recovery to balance it out? Are they slower? A1 Sodom unblockable still work? Is there A1 Auto Guard option in Arranged mode? Seriously, is Valle CC back? Can A2 characters be OTGd? What happens to reversal timing in Arranged mode, since A3 has a wider reversal window than A2? Do all A2 CCs work, or can some of them be air-recovered out of by A3 crew since they have holes in them? Did Classical Mode get anything new? Does Balrog get his headbutt back as a regular move like in the home versions (V-ISM only, except for Special 'Rog), or is it still just a Reversal? How good will A2 Dhalsim/Gief be (A3 A-Gief/Sim minus guard bar plus crazy Gief jump plus more damage plus better ACs)? What of move priority, will it become homogenized, or stay true to relative versions? Can A3 characters tech. A2 char’s throws by doing just one P/K or does it have to be PP/KK? Can A2 characters tech air throws? Can A2 characters do crouch cancels, or is their juggle ability limited? Hell, can A3 characters do crouch-cancels in Arranged mode?
SO MANY QUESTIONS??!!!
Actually most people are interested in a involved upgrade of the games, but since noone actually believes it will be done properly and marketed as a true upgrade, we’ll settle for arcade perfection. I’m not sure the people who want arcade perfect A3 understand what they are asking for, but compared to the inconsistent console ports i’d probably take arcade too, so i understand where people are coming from.
AE was botched up a lot, our standards are just so low that we just buy and support it until sirlin’s ST comes out cause it’s still a SF game (ala sirlin’s point). I’m sure the details are listed in various places throughout the forum.
Not entirely true, remember AE was a cut and paste of old SF’s, so it built a lot on the established base that was built during the years when capcom was working on SF. CFJ was the first in it’s series, so it was essentially the WW of the series as opposed to the post-ST collection.
Here’s where sirlin’s point is best illustrated, SF:WW was good for it’s time, but that game alone wasn’t a great 2p game, you can’t pick the same char, guile was way strong, etc… if we had a srk back then the game probably would have gotten owned hard. However because we couldn’t sit on the internet and complain all day, it started to become a hit and sell well, which prompted them to go back and refine it.
Now there is no arcade industry to force a new game on us, in some respects thats good because classic SF will last forever, but it’s also killing the scene because people are not supporting the new games long enough to see them become good. Even games that people consider good such as GGXX weren’t as good in the original version as they are now.
Not sure what you mean, consider the following:
Who is saying the opposite of who?
The US release is mid June.

Dude, you need to chill out.
^ ahh… might as well wait the couple weeks.
But with my luck the US version will have something wrong with it lol
I wasn’t planning on buying this, but if it has an arranged version…SOLD.
Anyone who ordered the JP version, can you please post as soon as you play around with it on what the hell is going on with it exactly? is the A3 arcade perfect? is there a new arrange mode?
In Vampire Chronicle (a mix-and-match, basically the Darkstalkers equivalent of AE), Capcom actually did let you do stuff like this. Like you could play as Jedah in DS1 or DS2 mode even though he wasn’t introduced until DS3. It was an interesting bonus, and I would hope that they do something similar for this collection (although like you said, since they didn’t for AE, I don’t think it’s likely that they will).
Yeah the arranged version to me is the icing on the cake bc we all know in tournies the arcade version is gonna be what is played…am now with CCC2 coming out ST and Alpha could return to the tourney scene…
Oh well though they may not be “respected” Im sure peeps could hold their own Alpha 3 Arrange tournies…
Lots on info from someone over at GameFAQs who apparently has the game:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=931620&topic=28202307
Lol seriously.
Someone needs therapy :looney:
Dude don’t you think characters with a different art style and like quintouple the animation frames would look just a little out of place with the Alpha crew?
thinks about CFE
Ooops!
Yeah like only A1-3, no Gold, no 3 Arrange. You know how we get screwed on stuff like this.
And yep no Ingrid, Yun, Maki or Eagle…but thats okay…theres some device to play the PSP on your TV and use a PS2 controller…I just wanna see if Yun etc are worth the time…
Will someone who can post on gfaq’s ask in that thread about Ryu’s dive kick and Dark Sakura?
there u go.
What’s funny is that Kof Neowave was actually sold over where I am. Which is odd.
So i’m hoping that come June, i’ll see Alpha Anthology.
I’ll pick that shit up with the quickness.
SRK will be in full effect, if A3 gets mass tourney play.
