Alien Covenant / Prometheus / Aliens / AvP / Discussion Thread

We will get other flashbacks in the movie and that will be explained when most of the crew eventually confronts David. There’s a 1 second clip of David talking to the two main characters in Covenant.

The newly born Neomorphs are far more ferral and violent than anything I’ve seen in the Aliens world. They’re not strategic like Xenomorphs, they just go straight for the kill and it’s only the size of a Chihuahua at tthe start of it’s life cycle. The back and neck bursting scenes were disgusting, it’s already far more horrifying than anything we saw in Prometheus.

I like Alien 3.

It’s not as good as the first two, but it’s a good end to Ripley’s story.

I understand Cameron’s hatred for it though, considering they killed Hicks and Newt offscreen before the film starts.

It’s got some good cinematography, with a really low camera looking upwards rather than the opposite that you’d normally see. Makes it feel really claustrophobic at times.

It suffers from so much studio interference, script rewrites and changes of directors though.

The CG holds up pretty well, though a few scenes look very superimposed.

Only good memory about that movie was the alien POV scene and perhaps the ending

CGI does not hold up in that movie lol

I get the feeling that this film is a cash grab to fund the real sequel to Prometheus.

This is the sequel to Prometheus, Ridley Scott said it himself.

I know that, but it doesn’t seem like it. Won’t know until I watch it I guess.

It def looks more like an alien prequel than a Prometheus sequel at least from trailers. I was hoping something more Prometheus like since I actually liked the story and cinematography even after the flaws everyone seems to be hang up with

I’d imagine there will be absolutely no survivors in this film unless there’s some bullshit explanation, since we have to assume that during the events of Alien, there was zero recorded knowledge of Space Jockeys and Xenomorphs.

Ridley Scott finally just killed that piece of shit Alien 5 by Blomkamp in an interview. None of that resurrecting Hicks and Newt nonsense at last. Alien3 forever!

If Covenant ends up being a turd I hope that you will regret those words.

It won’t be and I never will.

The very idea of making a movie that deletes half the canon because of a bunch of whiney gun nuts were pissed that Hicks was dead is preposterous. Blomkamp should stick to his crap films or go ahead and make a Starship Troopers sequel. Ellen Ripley’s story is done. Bring on the new trilogy.

(Yeah, everyone will probably die in Covenant. Of course, that’s what a lot of people thought about Prometheus too, so it’s not like it’s impossible that someone will survive (and potentially open up new plot holes…like Prometheus also did).)

While I can’t say that I agree with Hicks or Newt being revived either, not that I had heard of this before now, you can’t exactly blame people for still being pissed off how they got (mis)treated in Alien 3, especially given what a meddled with mess Alien 3 ended up being and how likable they were as characters in Aliens.

Regardless of what you feel and think about Alien 3, it’s rather inarguable that the entire movie is basically Ellen Ripley Never Gets to Happy: The Movie, which understandably still leaves a horrible taste in people’s mouths.

How does it not feel like it? didn’t you watch the Prologue or the trailers?

The only thing I don’t quite like about Alien Covenant is the design of the baby Neomorphs. It doesn’t quite look like anything Giger would design.

That’s exactly why this is a great movie. It wasn’t sugarcoating the reality that the Aliens are death itself and you don’t fuck with death. Everything it touches dies and Ellen Ripley came to term with this. Alien3 restored the terror of the Alien and honored Ripley as the one of the greatest female heroes put to film.

The fact the people liked and cared for Newt and Hicks is EXACTLY why they should’ve been killed. Hollywood plot armor went out the window and that’s what made this film so great from the first minute.

People so hung up on their American macho men, ‘bug hunts’, gun shows and happy endings that they fail realize the insignificance of our meaningless existence in the face of an infinitely superior species unclouded by our bullshit delusions of morality.

Well it isn’t. Also Neomorphs stem out of a plant-like variation of Alien Kingdom (referring to animal classifiication here).

Daemos, you realize that movies aren’t reality, right?

Uh, many people come to this conclusion by just living life normally. I mean, the people that do realize it from movies are probably on the rarer side I’d imagine. You almost come across as an alien(in a general sense) worshipping cultist dude

Y’all think the chick that looks like Ripley is gonna die?

Explain this? I need get hold of a copy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman/Aliens

So Ridley comfirmed Blomkamp’s Alien movie isn’t happening, he was meant to produce it but it never got past being an idea.

Who gives a fuck about reality here? We are discussing the films with their own internal logic, their own canon, and the themes they have already established from the start. The Ripley Trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever conceived with each of the 3 acts being purposeful leading up to an elegant conclusion. You want a popcorn flick go watch Guardians of the Galaxy.
