[spoiler= Possible Prometheus Synopsis spoiler]
Weyland-Yutani is definitely in the film, and the catalyst for everything that follows.
Michael Fassbinder’s David is an android, but he becomes something far more important - the progenitor of the human race.
The alien is a bioweapon, meant to wipe out humanity.
The creatures that evolve from humanity are called PROTOFORMS, and one of them evolves into something ALIEN fans will recognize - a STAR BEAST. What the hell is a STAR BEAST?
It was suggested that this would only turn into an ALIEN prequel in the last moments, but reading the synopsis reveals that what Fassbender said in interviews, that “ALIEN is in the film’s DNA” is pretty accurate.
The plot reads exactly like something that would be a precursor to ALIEN.
The plot suggests that the Nostromo going to Zeta 2 Reticuli was planned well in advance. I’m not certain where PROMETHEUS and ALIEN fit together in the timeline, but I’d imagine that ALIEN can’t be more than a hundred years or so afterwards.
Well Metroid is pretty heavily inspired by Ridley Scott’s work on Alien. I’m pretty sure you already know this, i’m just sayin…you know.
Ever since Taito pointed it out I now want Charlize Theron to play Samus in a Metroid movie. This is probably the closest I’ll get tho, and that’s good enough for me.
yeah, the xenomorph monster is one of the best monsters ever created in film history. i usta get nightmares of that beast when i was a kid. it was "one ugly muther fucker"
great design though.
back in college, me and a couple of friends found the art book of the artists who designed the xenomorph. the book showed how the drafts/drawing evolved into the alien we know and love today.
then there’s its shedding of skin, its bee/ant/insect-like society, its parasitic nature in its early state. and the whole cocoon/spider type sequestering of its prey(people).
most of the best horror movies play on some certain fear we have in real life.
Alien-getting eaten by a predator & getting parasites
The Shining-cabin fever
The Exorcist and Poltergeist-spiritualism, paranormal phenomenon
The Talented Mr. Ripley-stalking, identity theft
The Picture of Dorian Grey-180 degree personality transformation, two-faced lying
Silence of the Lambs-madness, insanity
Seems to be a generational thing…I tried to get my brother and his girlfriend to watch it and they both were pretty bored and wondering why they didn’t show the Alien that much after the CG battles of AVP and stuff. My brother wondered if someone in Hollywood would try remaking it so it was faster paced. I threatened to stab him.
The slide show Sexperienced put up though…how awesome it’s going to be to see Ridley Scott creating a world instead of doing a modern day/period piece stuff he’s been doing for the past 20 years or so.
I think you need to understand the techniques they used in Alien to appreciate the movie more. The whole point of the movie was to not show much of the alien until close to the very end. It kept it mysterious and left it up to the imagination as to what the creature really looked like. Nothing is scarier than something you can’t see or understand. Alien is simply genius.
actually it doesnt, it should make you appreciate it even more considering it’s actually good. what makes you lose sight is not being inclined to intellectual movie making.
I think his point is that the latter movies in the franchise (and movies in general, for that matter) have done that to people that are younger. What’s funny is that I probably didn’t watch Alien for the first time until maybe five years ago (I’m 25 now), but I know how much thought and effort was put into a movie like Alien.
I mean that everyone knows what the Alien/xenomorph is by now, and the movie has influenced countless film and other media, so it can never be as frightening as it was in 1979. Maybe that isn’t apparent to most of us because we didn’t exist back then (most of us anyway)
Like the mystery surrounding the first Matrix. You can still analyze and admire that movie, but Spring 1999 is lost forever.
