Promethis is like totally the worst film made in the history of ever. Even Uwe Boll wouldn’t dare tarnish what little weight his name has by putting it anywhere near such rubbish!
Am I one of you now?
You mean find some even handed thoughts on one of SRK’s last bastions of intelligent discussion? Go ahead no one is stopping you, and the fact that you felt offended enough to not just quote me but retort with some kind of empty threat is pretty telling of your insecurity.
How many of you watched the full red letter media review? I highly recommend it.
Avengers is a waste of money in 3D but I saw it in a standard multiplex. Prometheus has to be experienced at least once in IMAX3D. I don’t have a problem seeing either 3D or 2D, but I don’t live in a small town.
Mutant Geologist displays super strength, agility, flexibility and speed. Charles has super sperm and also displays super strength, when two of his crew try to pick him up from ground he is able to toss them back with a single arm. Worms display super strength, blood turn to acid (so that a new defence mechanism) and healing factor.
all the things Weyland would be interested in to extend his life.
I was just making fun of the kids here who can’t comprehend that others may have liked the film more then they did let alone disagree about some flaws it may or may not have, after all this is opinion we’re talking about.
Not really because the movie thread is a lot more general AKA about all film discussion not just one specific thing and none of our disagreements got childishly out of hand like some in this thread, we both respect each others opinions even when they don’t align perfectly.
I’m not really qualified to talk about Prometheus in depth since I’ve only seen it once and it definitely requires a second viewing to absorb all that it has to offer whether you like it or not. That being said on a first viewing I loved it for the visuals, audio, and suspenseful directing. I don’t think all the high minded stuff worked completely as intended but I personally haven’t spent any time sorting through it all to make sense of what is incoherent red herrings and what’s intentionally ambiguous.
I definitely respect Scott’s vision though even those who hated Prometheus must respect the fact that he didn’t play it safe and give us a cookie cutter blockbuster. That kind of creative thought is seldom seen in Hollywood now.
Although I’m not particularly fan of watching everything in 3D, I must say Prometheus had good use of it. Watched it on UltraAVX3D (bless reserved seating)
"During the March 17, 2012, WonderCon, Scott stated that the film leaves many questions unanswered, and that these could be answered in a sequel, saying “If we’re lucky, there’ll be a second part. It does leave you with some nice open questions.”[22][85] Asked if a sequel would be a direct prequel to Alien, Lindelof said “if we’re fortunate enough to do a sequel… it will tangentialize [sic] even further away from the original Alien.”[18] In June 2012, Lindelof stated that while plot elements were deliberately left unresolved so that they could be answered in a sequel, he and Scott thoroughly discussed what should be resolved so that Prometheus could stand alone, as a sequel was not guaranteed.[204] Further detailing his sequel concept, Scott stated that it would follow Shaw to her next destination, “because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous.” Lindelof cast doubt on his participation stating “if [Scott] wants me to be involved in something, that would be hard to say no to. At the same time, I do feel like [Prometheus] might benefit from a fresh voice or a fresh take or a fresh thought.”[205] Scott has stated that an additional film would be required to bridge the gap between the Prometheus sequel and the original Alien.[206]"
I liked it but it felt like they tried to many things than they needed to try.
I really think they should have picked 2 things and stuck with them.
the SJ’s are a given and are automatically one choice but things like the weird snake creatures, the slime zombie, and the squid baby weren’t needed and kind of took away from the main plot.
I think they should have went with the goo zombies or squid baby personally, or did something new like have david be corrupted by the SJ technology and have him begin killing the crew off one by one or something like that.
one thing that reeeeaaaally irked me was the random fucking fire-axe at the end, like where the fuck did it come from? why was it strategically placed? how did she even know it was there, that wasn’t even her room.
I think Charlize, Idris, and Idris’s co-pilots deaths were unnecessary, like those extremely high tech ships didn’t have a super advanced auto-pilot in them. You’d think a ship capable of hyper space, in a year where machines can be programmed to act like people, space ships would be able to fly straight in one direction without a person piloting them. A why couldn’t Theron run/roll out of the way of the giant ship thats been going in one straight direction for like a minute? its not like it was going 200mph or anything and its impossible to say she didn’t move because she didn’t know it was so close, its a gigantic noisy rolling space ship.
and the ending was just, ugh, IMO.
On the plus side, seeing a decrepit old man getting hit over the head by a decapitated android was pretty damn funny.
I guess Ridley and Lindeloff are idiots too because that’s essentially what they said about this film…
Except none of that leads up to the original film. Its setting up an alternate reality spinoff of events that have nothing to do with the original film. The Weyland thing was forced and didn’t add anything to the plot. The SJs in Prometheus aren’t the same as the SJ in Alien. And there was no Xenomorph in this film (that piece of shit at the end is NOT a xenomorph).
It’s not “alternate reality”… and it’s certainly not a “spinoff.” It is set in the universe of the Alien films at an earlier point in time.
It’s not a prequel in the sense that it’s the story directly before Ripley’s story. It’s a “prequel” in the sense that it takes place in the same universe before all that ever happened to give some insight on the background of Xenos and SJs.
Finding out from the concept designs that the Space Jockeys’ suits are actually biomechanically infused into their bodies opens up a lot of questions in regards to their society. Also the fact that the deleted scenes show a more naturalistic version of their culture could play into the sequel.
I dont have a problem travelling, central London isnt that far from where I currently live. To my knowledge there was only one cinema in London showing Prometheus in 2d, and that was the Curzon cinema in Soho. The friend I saw it with the first time didnt want to travel that far eventhough I offered to pay for his travel card :bluu:
