Twice shite?
???
k, hold dat.
Great vid, good to see someone had the same feelings and ideas as me. Great ending to the review to. Worth watching even if you hated the film.
I do not understand this response. Do you not believe I won’t watch it?
i don’t understand “once bitten etc”
thats ok, if you’re not watchign the sequel, i believe you.
“hold dat”, acknowledge what you said, and keep your word bro.
I watched the film again last night and I feel I can answer the majority of these questions without seeming like I’m trolling too much.
OK then explain to me why those two idiots get lost in temple when they have “pups” mapping out the fucking thing and they are constantly in contact with the ship! And why they suddenly grow a pair and want to touch creepy snakelike penis creature thats fucking hissing at them?
The “pups” do map out the temple and the ship, however Milburn and Fifield do not have a map available to them (everything you see from their helmet cams are not screens that display their stats to themselves but a monitor for the crew members on the ship). It’s being transmitted and sequenced on the ship.
During the time they get “lost” there is a storm that interferes with the communication between Janek and the two who are stuck until the storm passes. They explain that the static charges from the storm will give them intermittent to zero communication. When the communication is restored the Janek ignores the two crew members to go have sex with Vickers…and well I don’t blame him.
I will agree it was a tad bit silly that the Milburn (biologist) outright taunts the alien. Perhaps it was adrenaline or something. But not the usual way one would approach a foreign species with any prior knowledge. As far as the initial fear displayed mainly by Fifield he remains spooked until his death. Milburn seemed to have a different mindset.
If you are questioning the characters actions go back and watch Alien and try and wrap your head around why looking for the cat was logical in comparison to the biologist and geologists actions in Prometheus. Especially when you have an Alien species of unknown origin running loose on the ship with no prior knowledge of its capabilities or natural motives.
And what the fuck is David doing poisoning crew members and making secret excursions without anyone saying a word?
David is an android. His motives are unclear (see all other androids in the previous alien movies for reference). However, we are given subtle hints that justify his actions and many could be under the directive of Weyland. Poisoning Holloway was a spiteful action (possibly a test objective from Weyland to see how the black ooze effects humans biologically) and their conversation about man creating David just because they could and David’s remark on how ultimately disappointing that was. It seems David like the previous androids have altruistic motives. I could go really deep into the significance of his motives but to make a long story short there is more than meets the eye when it comes to David and his choices.
Nobody in the crew knew of David’s betrayal and it was not even hinted at until later in the film that Shaw realized what had transpired and even then it was too late to do anything about it. Besides Shaw making accusations with only speculation would lead her further down the rabbit hole of her darkening reality and the fate of earth.
And why did Weyland pretend to be dead? And who cares if Vickers is his daughter?
*The answer to that is why not? What a legacy to leave on earth as a martyr who funds a deep space exploration vessel to discover mankind’s origin. Investors would be clamoring at the chance to give money to such a noble cause. It’s an easier pill to swallow for the crew members to risk their lives for a nobler motive than to seek the fountain of youth for a weathered old corpse. It has a very Wizard of Oz quality on what’s behind the curtain and who is pulling the strings. *
*The relationship that Weyland and Vickers carry is conflicted to say the least. It’s clear Weyland looks at David like his true child and his daughter comes second. She is flesh and blood (supposedly) of Weyland and can never seem to carry the same love he does for his Android. Her relationship with Weyland mirrors the relationship the Engineers have with the human race. It’s resentful, spiteful, complicated, and uneasy. *
And why the fuck is the engineer so pissed off?
*The engineer’s directive was to deliver the payload to earth and anyone or anything complicating that mission could eventually lead to the failure of the mission. He being the last of the engineers in the weapons base is clear that he felt he had to stop at nothing to complete his mission. David also says something to him, which results in him being very violent and hostile towards the crew. Once again David’s motives are unclear and whom he supports in the long run is irrelevant. *
Why doesn’t anyone care that Shaw just performed intense surgery on herself?
Nobody is aware but Vickers, Weyland, David and Weyland’s lackeys. At that point things had snowballed out of control so badly that the only thing that mattered was the objective. To Weyland, Shaw was nothing but a scapegoat for a larger plan and her mortality was not an issue. You could see this quite apparently as he has little regard for anyone but himself and his own mortality. It may sound like a poor excuse but a lot of what occurs in this film seems to happen off camera.
Why doesn’t she mention the fact that there’s a squid alien thing hanging out on the ship?
*Shaw locked the creature in the surgery unit and locked the door behind her in Vickers quarters. Having a large contaminate could jeopardize the mission to great lengths. Much of her actions seem to be based off adrenaline and her rationality is askew. Personally, it would be hard not to think of anything when you know the world could potentially end if you did not try and stop it. However, in your arguments defense mentioning this could be beneficial for the remaining crew. Who knew what the alien would become or that the machine could not contain something so small (at the time). *
Why do those dumb bitches run in a straight line when the engineer ship is falling down?
Disorientation and a large megalithic craft hurdling towards them is not enough to think irregularly? Ever roll a nickel on a surface and watch it fall onto its side (with no anticipation for when it is going to fall over). Any direction they ran in covered a vast distance and debris is flying every direction. Even Shaw who managed to barely escape death once had to deal with the ship then falling on it’s side nearly crushing her a second time. Also, its a fucking action scene are you seriously going to try and justify a poor writing on a scene like that? Enjoy the eye candy, it was amazing looking. Nuff’ Said.
No film is perfect but what you take away from this film is entirely subjective. Perhaps if anything my answering some of your questions might dispell your percieved notions on why this film did not make sense.
she also had surgry and ran… lol
these movies are also suppose to make you think. Think about human nature. Alien(s?) movies are good are making you think about that actions that androids take too, sometimes very human nature n such.
----Haven’t so the first one but 2 and this one do it.
Part of “once bitten, twice shy.”
I enjoyed the movie a lot but…
The crew proved throughout the whole film they were incompetent and naive (but how prepared can you be to meet your maker??), everyone bought into this idea of it being an invitation. Considering that this is an Alien movie, maybe Ridley shouldn’t have used this for Elizabeth’s reasoning.
Anyway I can’t believe that their technology is limited to only being able to display a map to the ship and not to their wrist tablets. It would have made more sense if you had just said people with satnavs are more likely to get lost than people with a street map or the AI had malfunctioned.
There should have been an app for that.
Ripley going back for the cat in Alien is grounded in reality, having never owned a cat or a dog it doesn’t make any sense to me why people put their life on the line for a pet.
I could gather 100s of links but you get the point
You know what peeved me off in Alien, the guy sneaking up on the alien then completely ruining the element of surprised with a premature war cry. It wouldn’t have made a good movie but he would have saved them all lol
I was okay with this, but after the second viewing I was more WTF at her getting hit in the gut twice by the security guard then 10seconds later sprinting to the ship (she does take a breather mid way though =/ ).
-
who the fuuuck cares about those 2 idiots. they’re suppose to die, they’re entertainment.
who the fuck cares, they’re not suppose to play a significant role cause they’re easy prey and easy to see die.
hahahah, c’mon, you guys can’t tell me you guys haven’t seen any other horror/thriller type of movies when idiots get killed. -
she had surgery and ran… luv it. reminds me of berserk or some hardcore horror survival shit. shes goes through some incredible hardcore death situations and makes the cut to be a surviving cast. anyone watch the alien trilogy?.. she goes through pain and is obviously in mental shock, but more so to survive. i luv it, unbelievable, who fucking cares. shes survives!~!~
fucking nerds are so technical in the opposite way. there are questions unanswered and thats cool if that pisses you off. but if these tedious stuff kills the movie… fucking why watch action movies in general?? go watch myth buster if so.
EDIT:
another note, i think engineers made us as a weapon. thats was our purpose from their creation. as can be seen from the black stuff that makes any biological thing go extremely hostile.
humans and that black stuff is some crazy ass weaponary for the engineers war or whatever the fuck they were going through. as seen what happened to holloway when he was tearin havoc @ the prometheus hangar.
but my opinion why they wanted to take us out, was probably cause our advance intelligence. we were becoming more alpha and they knew we were more of a threat.
cause its funny how they wanted to destroy humankind “2000” years ago…(hint:space jesus).
whats killing me is thinking of what stop or killed off all the engineers from destroying us. there were tons of bodies of them laying around the place.
anyway, my 2 cent.
i thought of the movie too much. time 4 some street fighter.
I liked the “Ripley engineer” idea. Like, imagine if after the 1st Alien movie, Ripley had been awaken from her cryo sleep by some smaller humanoid species that tell her she (by she they mean the human race) was their creator and start asking why she/us created them. She probably would have gone shit crazy on them as well, having the early experience on messing with xenomorphs and shit. You can’t really generalize one engineer’s action with the whole alien race. The first scene is still ambiguous as whether he really intended to create life with his “sacrifice” or was that just an accident from a suicidal ritual. Even if it would have been intentional, was that the Engineer’s decision or was it this engineer’s self choice?
2 idiots who wondered off and got killed.
in a team you call those 2 guys bottom feeders/bottom tiers.
they don’t make the cut, they are hakan and dan.
they get easily eliminated lmao.
shaw is cammy…
the best.
This:
Ergo:
X*(1/Y)=Z
Where:
X is Scary Movie (the Wayans Brothers Scary Movie);
Y is the concept of parodying scary movie tropes; and
Z is Prometheus.
I see…so you’re who the redletter media guys were talking about.
Yeah I don’t get the "I hate "insert whatever here so much that I’m going to spend an enormous amount of text and effort telling everyone how much I hate it. Personally I’m frustrated with Prometheus not because it doesn’t answer some of the burning questions it teases us with but because it contains so many great scenes and the material lends itself naturally to the stuff of greatness but it’s flaws hold it back from being the film it could have been IMO.
Fortunately for you, Sovi3t hasn’t dedicated the majority of his life to watching Prometheus, or else you’d be banned by now.
Oh yeah, Shaw gets mad fucked up during her post-op adventures. Other things of note were when she didn’t clear one of those jumps and slams her stomach on part of the launch site as she’s trying to hold on, and the fucking 8ft tall engineer that prolly weighs 400 lb or so falling on her. She took all that shit like a real trooper.
After a 2nd viewing, my biggest beef was really the whole space cobra scene. I think we can all agree that it was dumb trying to pet a blatantly hostile alien, but it was pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things IMO.
I’m pretty interested in the black ooze shit and what was contained within the vases i.e. what David slipped Holloway. It seemed like Holloway was possibly experiencing the same symptoms of the engineer from the opening sequence, just at a much slower rate prolly since he only consumed a drop of it. But if that’s the case, I wonder why it was encased in some other shit that mutates lifeforms (space worms and Hatfield). Maybe the engineers were just gonna kinda hit the reset button on the human species, to absolve us of our sins or some shit. It’d almost be fitting with all the religious undertones.
Have you guys watched lawrence of Arabia, the film david watches and mimics whilst the crew are in hypersleep? david models himself on main character (played by peter o’toole).
i havent watched this film in over 20years and back then i had the concentration span of a gnat, so naturally i’ve forgotten everything about it.

its worth watching if you have the time.
The funny thing is, Laurence was a prat.
Sure it looks like a cobra, but then I can still point to the guys who play music to keep them in a trance, people who (obviously out of their mind), go into jungles looking for rare poisonous creatures or study powerful predators.
It’s not out of the ordinary for some human people to stick their hand in a hole to see what’s there.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel to see what they actually do with the engineers.
