Alien Covenant / Prometheus / Aliens / AvP / Discussion Thread

A little mystery is good in a movie, for example the “space jocky” and alien ship from the first Alien movie, but this movie had no clear explanation about anything that happened and the characters actions seemed to be unrealistically stupid. The director seemed like he was trying to do way too much in one movie which resulted in none of it working at all. The premise for the first two movies was so clean and efficient compared to the jumbled mess we get in Prometheus.

I liked the movie for what it is but little less random would have been nice.

Yeah I saw it. I was expecting them to slaughter it lol, but, it was actually quite fair.

There are good bits in the film (particularly the visuals) - and I don’t think many would dispute that. It’s just the more you think about certain aspects (you know, like the plot), the worse it becomes becomes. Usually, a film gives you 1 plus 1 and lets you do the math (i.e. there’s enough information to actually reach a logical conclusion). A lot of times, prometheus just gave you 1 and you are left to create your own equation…and the answer…

I think this is down to the style of the minimalist story telling - you are supposed to read into scenes a lot, which is absolutely fine. But I’ve read 30 minutes were cut, which is a lot if your movie is supposed to be minimalist! No wonder there are so many plot holes, character inconsistencies etc - 20% of the movie is missing!

I don’t think the movie is shit by any means (it’s not MK annihilation level that’s for damn sure), but the theatrical cut as is…kinda dissapointing.

Never thought about it this way, very true:tup:

The reaction most of you are having about Prometheus now is more or less the reaction people had to 2001:A Space Odyssey. Not to say that even if Prometheus ages like fine wine it would be anywhere near as “good” a film but just something to keep in mind.

I agree that perhaps, the movie was too ambitious for it’s own good although I’ll take a creative failure over an off the shelf “safe” pic any day. What was random to you? Prometheus may not fire on all cylinders as it intended but it has a lot more on it’s mind and more respect for it’s collective audience’s intelligence than you and others give it credit for.

I mean they just did things that were so stupid. Venturing into an unknown world with little to no weapons, trying to pet unknown lifeforms, deciding to keep trying to talk to the engineers and find out the answer even though they’ve made it clear they just want to kill you

They should have been happy with the dna match and said OK good job good effort we out

**

Who’s taking this too seriously then, the people who say it’s a bad movie with a plot that makes no sense, or people who start speculating about a plot that makes no sense?
As you said yourself- It’s just a fucking movie. They wanted to make a scene that contains XYZ, so they forced the plot to lead into it without any coherence. The movie was made to present fancy CGI and make money. Deal with it and stop making it into something it isn’t.
I can understand people who were pissed because:

  1. They paid money in hopes to see a good movie.
  2. Fancy effects can’t make up for a script that’s so stupid and illogical you can’t help but think “they do what they do only to force a certain scene” which removes the immersion and enjoyment.

Raise a science-religion-god question just for the sake of it and doing nothing with it?
A dude going out of character and decides to jerk off an alien penis just because? (Reminds me of a Michael Bay movie)
Yeah, very respectable for the intelligence of the viewers. Very Ambitious movie. lol

Firstly, MovieBob is a scrub. Just want to get that out there.

Secondly, even though I’m all for expressing one’s views regardless of what one feels about something, even if one enjoys something I personally find terrible, you’re wrong about a couple of things: a) on a forum, as with any discussion, just as Person X is allowed to voice View A, Person Y is allowed to criticize View A; and 2) movies aren’t inconsequential, they’re an art form, objectively and emotionally, and they invoke feelings and whatnot. It’s not wrong to be passionate about them, regardless of whether that passion is love or hate.

That all out of the way, Prometheus is trash. Pretty, atmospheric trash with great music. It’s kinda like Chrono Cross in movie form, bad plot/non-compelling characters and all. Except at least Prometheus has one interesting character (David), even if he could have been better. Fuck y’all for liking it. <-- This is an example of what I was talking about earlier.

EDIT - tataki makes me man moist.

What did you try to post, image isn’t showing

I hate that shit. Fixed.

I tried watching Aliens when I was a kid and I fell asleep. Maybe because it was also close to bed time and I was lying on the couch…but I remember getting pretty bored.

This sounds like a movie I would wanna check out though with dumb cool action all the supposed mythology references which parallel a lot of stuff I’ve been reading up on lately (someone mentioned Annunaki in here haha). I’m sure it’s about as bad as some make it out to be but I still enjoy such movies.

The biologist wasn’t necessarily out of character. He saw something smaller than him and not humanoid. It’s called curiosity. Y’know like when Kane decided to put his face right in front of an egg.

Maybe all of this can be explained by the effects of hypersleep on the human body.

lol, there’s one thing cenk gets wrong. In the cave they asked david what the writing meant, he just didnt respond.

I dunno if this has yet to be posted.
But this movie reviewer does a pretty good analysis of the movie.
Take the movie as it is. It is as it is.
Like it or hate it.
I loved it, and dying for a sequel.

Also if anyone is interested in possible IRL messages left from ancient sites, Carl Munck has put together some great stuff. The references to planetary info is nice but for this thread the possible connection to ancient sites on Mars seemed nice (I think in 2nd or 3rd part).

parts 2 and 3 are also on that channel. But really, it is only a tiny bit of a lot of the analysis and discoveries made about the pyramids/ancient sites and these vids don’t even cover all of the pyramids (like all the hella pyramids in China) Additional reading on sacred geometry, numbers/numerology, phi, pi, fibonacci, music, astronomy, astrology, etc. would probably help as well.

Goddammit, none of the Alien films are on instant queue.

I disagree completely, it looks like a cobra hisses like a cobra. The egg is more " a like what’s in the box?" scenerio, we’ve always been curious about hatching eggs, and we’ve always been fearful of snakes.

They were more interested in what was behind the door =/

They fucked up with the “add a million characters to the party” part but at least the main ones had clear motives and the story was coherent, and fine IMO.
But most importantly, it had an amazing soundtrack that stays with you, compared to everything about this hollywood movie you won’t remember 2 months from now.
Yeah those things are not enough to make a good video game but still a much better experience overall.

And no one jerked off an alien penis in CC.

hahaha, thats cool if you don’t like it.
theres so many people who keep talking about how bad the movie is and scott ridley should burn in hell.
but they’re always talking about the movie…
can i ask you a honest question though, if or when the sequel is released.
are you going to watch it?

Nope. Once bitten etc.
