Redlettermedia basically expressed my feelings both positive and negative towards the movie verbatim. The biggest plothole/unanswered question for me was why was a star map left by the engineers to take them not to their home planet, but to some random remote (possible)weapons/research/etc outpost.
Also since the planet in this movie isn’t the same one they discover in Alien, we’re assuming that another ship from the Prometheus planet escaped with an Engineer and that basically the entire plot of Prometheus happened again to bring about the complex, random biological mating to eventually bring about the xenomorph?
That map question and the way the biologist just turned suicidal with the death snake were the two standout problems to me, just because they don’t really flow into the rest of the movie. I’m guessing the biologist was cracking up after being stuck down there for a whole night. The idea that the planet was just a research facility sounds like the characters making a their own conclusions. I doubt it was the entire explanation because of how many other questions the movie brings up but leaves you to guess at. Plus why would the facility have a giant skull if the planet itself was already some kind of condemned and dangerous place?
My guess with the giant facehugger/Space Jockey-chestburster thing is that the biological weapons are all designed towards a coercive means of breeding, not that you need to go from black goo infection > mammalian pregnancy > squid/facehugger > Xenomorph. The Xeno at the end didn’t look a whole lot like any of the other Xenos, not even the queen. We don’t even know that a Queen isn’t just a regular Xeno that evolves that way after a certain point, the same way a Bee can become a queen if it starts eating royal jelly.
My guess is that the giant face hugger = a really huge Xeno, and the one at the end isn’t the final mutation it goes through.
Nah, the Alien got on the ship with David and Elizabeth, ate them, and then the Alien killed the Engineer and had a baby with it.
Maybe they were gonna give us the black stuff as a gift?
We’d get home, hilarity ensues.
Also, the wall depicting a xenomorph more than shows they had already been discovered/created.
I stand by the theory that a queen type is shown at the end, and could be one way to explain the ship in alien, especially since that ship was filled with eggs.
Also to note, the ship cockpit in alien isn’t the same, it doesn’t have hypersleep modules that I could tell.

right but the ship in the first one has an engineer in the cockpit, so it can’t be the crashed ship because the engineer left and went to to the human ship where it died.
I didn’t say it was, but there were other ships.
The other thing is that I couldn’t find a specified date in Alien, so for all we know, Alien happens like centuries later. Also, the setting of Alien is closer to earth than the setting of Prometheus. Perhaps, the engineer was travelling back to earth? If anyone asks how I know that, its cause Lambert says they are 11 months away from earth.

I went in expecting a thoughtful science-fiction horror.
What I got was B-movie level horror tropes, characters that are to compelling what my bellybutton lint is to cuisine (except David), a theme centered around the age-old “aliens made man” idea warped into contrivance for the sake of it – this film, it boggles my mind how poor it is.
I’m going to save the rest of my venom for (shameless plug) my eventual blog post on it, but for now, Maddox echoes many of my criticisms.
I saw Superman vs. The Elite today. Flawed, but waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Prometheus.
I think the engineers are gay…like a entire race of muscle bound bald men can only mean 1 thing!

From the movies people don’t seem to realize that 5v5 avp death match is borning. its suppose to be 5 preds vs 5 million aliens. Maybe if the special ones from the games are in the movie then 1 alien can kill a pred. Like the sub-bosses.

Maybe they Engineers didn’t want humans to find those paintings and come and visit. The Engineer at the end didn’t seem particularly happy to see them there. I’m still leaning towards the Engineers intending to wipe out or evolve humans at some point with the black stuff but then the outbreak happened and the mission failed. Holloway and Shaw determine that the maps are invitations to find the Engineers and re-unite with their creators, but maybe it’s last resort to get rid of humanity. Inviting us to our doom if they couldn’t finish the job.

Something must have happened to the Engineers as race…if the Engineer they wake up immediately sets course for Earth, then why didn’t some other Engineers follow up 2000 years before when the outbreak took place?

The guy playing the Engineer is the same guy playing the Mountain in season 2 on Game of Thrones
