Did we watch two different movies???

[details=Spoiler]Characters were constantly presenting their theories as fact. Like: "Oh, I know what those Engineers were up to! They were doing so and so!"
How do you know for certain that’s what happened? I said how do you know that?!Did you read the script? What’s that over there? Is that the script?
I have absolutely no questions left that I need answers to, though it might have to do with the fact that I didn’t give two shits about any of the bland, clichĂ©d, forgettable characters. Except maybe the android, though he was basically a slightly less interesting version of Data.[/details]

You know the script was written by the guy that wrote LOST

Spoiler

We’re still left with the ultimate question, why? We’re left trying to understand the logic and reasoning behind the Engineers motives and actions, for me these two questions these are big questions and then it’s David.

I don’t know about that, Data was humble but extremely robotic, David is very child like, he has a natural curiosity about life and pushes the boundaries of what’s right and wrong. For me David displayed all emotions except fear during the movie.

Movie definitely could have done with an extra half hour to develop the main characters.

[details=Spoiler]That’s the thing though, he is set up the same way, like he keeps talking about how he has no emotions and yada yada, except he totally displays emotions all the time. Much more than Charlize Theron’s character. I would have actually liked if they kept her more in the dark, like if she was an android or not. There were a couple of scenes, like when she confronts David in the corridor, where she seemed very robot-like.

As for the “why?” part, meh. All the way through that part of the plot just seemed like an excuse to have some dumb action sequences, rather than it being the actual focus of the movie. I mean, when they finally do meet one of the Engineers, you know, the very thing they wanted to do from day one, he is basically just another monster.
This story could have been really interesting, with people finding out(or at least coming close to finding out) why we are here, but the questions that were keeping me busy were: Why is this happening? Why are those characters making those decisions?
Seriously, that part where Shaggy and Scooby find that snake thing blew my goddamn mind. It looks like a space cobra! Why are you so desperately trying to pet it? You wouldn’t pet an earth cobra, so why would you try to pet an even creepier looking space cobra? Also, why the fuck aren’t you running?! You guys were set up to be the biggest scaredy cats, yet now you’re hell bent on getting yourselves killed by weird space creatures?
And the guy at the start, taking off his helmet. He’s a scientist! Well, that’s what they kept saying anyway, but still! Gee, the air is breathable, ima take this helmet off A.S.A.P.! Wait, we haven’t checked for any strange airborne viruses and stuff yet- aw fuck it, too late. Alright everyone, helmets off!
Oh shit, my dumb ass got infected with some virus. Maybe it was because I took my helmet off. It wasn’t? It was because I got drunk for no reason and someone slipped me a mickey? Why was he getting drunk? It didn’t look like he was celebrating because they made some amazing discoveries ('CAUSE THEY DID), no he looked depressed. He was so disappointed they didn’t find a live Engineer on day one exploring a fraction of the planet they just landed on a couple of hours ago that he had to drink himself into a stupor.
But anyway, now he’s infected so in stead of trying to find a cure, he says fuck it, burn me! I know you got laser shotguns too and you could very well provide me with a quicker, less painful death, but whatever, set me on fire! So only one person cares that he dies, certainly no one in the audience does and after that he is quickly forgotten.

There’s more, but I don’t wanna blow up the server with my ranting. This movie doesn’t necessarily deserve to be picked apart, it’s a nice space adventure I guess, but it’s just so not what it’s hyped up to be. And it never sits well with me to see an interesting premise take a back seat to dumb action.

To hell with the servers, your rant is valid and entertaining

It could’ve been better and it could’ve been worse.

The Space Jockey at the end I don’t think is the same Jockey we see in Alien.

Spoiler

It’s possible, I can’t remember how much damage there was to the body. They’ve shown their bodies are extremely resilient, so one could theorize the Engineer awoke made it’s way back to a ship, set off but crash landed on a near by moon, or Weyland renamed the planet to throw other companies off their trail

Yeesh more negative reviews. I dunno what the hell many were expecting. I thought the movie was good, my only gripe were the questions left unanswered.

My theory as before, is that the hype machine did far too good of a job. People were going into this one expecting sheer greatness and answers aplenty, only to be disappointed with a Good movie w/many answers saved for the sequel.

They were primed for Dark Knight and got Batman Begins instead. Still a damn good movie but fell short of the lofty expectations.

I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed in a film ever. Granted, being the fan of the first Alien and Aliens that I am, I was setting myself up for failure. It’s not bad, but it damn sure isn’t great. Ridley made the better (much better) movie the first time.

From a technical standpoint, the movie is hot sex. Scott manages to pull off an intense suspense filled and horror laden atmosphere, without even trying. It’s almost criminal that he’s so good at it, while these other hacks go around make torture porn. His use of color, set design, and camera skills are incredible and borderline gdlk.

-Elba had no point in this film.
-Theron could have been anyone.

As for the story
I need to sleep on it before I discuss the hole filled, just-to-setup-for-a-sequel plot. I wish this movie didn’t even belong in the Alien’s universe. Was more of a piece on religion than anything else.

Also

FUCK cg creatures. Gawd damn. Fuck them. I expected way more out of them.

Edit: One of the guys that had a hand in “Lost” did this? No fucking wonder.

edit edit: And characters did such dumb shit. sigh

Movie was solid glad I saw this in the IMAX 3d and got my cool poster lol. The only gripe is fuck I have tons of questions now. I wanted a bit more tie in but it’s cool I’m not gonna sit here and say this was a bad movie cause it wasn’t.

The suspense level was at epic levels, I’m glad I don’t have a curious bone in my body cause with those things running around you can count me out man!

Setting up more of these alien movies I have no problem with. Awesome sci fi movie based on some shit we know really cant complain.

8.9/10

I will see this again after work later on today must sleep.

[details=Spoiler]

  • ruined the Space Jockeys. Fucking evil albino body builders.
  • crapppy makeup on Guy Pierce. Looked like the Cryptkeeper. Why not just get the real Peter O’Toole if David is created in his image
  • no real tension in the film
  • the proto-Xenomorph at the end, I thought was going to be ALien REssurection hybrid shit after I saw the yolk sack
  • fuck CGI monsters
  • everyone is a stock character

What I liked:

  • Idris Elba got to bang Charlize Theron
  • Michael Fassbender as the android
  • HR Giger wall painting
  • Charlize Theron’s nipples

the abortion scene coulda been sick but lack of tension
[/details]

Just saw it in cinemas on Wednesday, and it was awesome! It tied off the origins of the aliens well along with explaining how humans came to be, had a few funny, if not stupid moments, but there wasn’t a lot of suspense or action in it, just a few gross out moments and kills.

Another viral

You’ll see the Weyland logo with the “building a better tomorrow since 10.11.12” that was shown at the end credits of the movie.

What happened after the credits? We left before the credits ended.

The more I think about this movie, the harsher my opinion gets. :shake:

So
 is the movie good?
I’m scared to watch it ;_;

Spoiler

i just wanna know what the jockeys were all running from in the little playback section. also, why did they run into the room full of pods? what was with the pile of bodies? were they killed by the snakes? were the snakes infected worms?(remember the camera zoomed in on some worms) and what was up in that begining? was that earth or lv-23?

overall, decent movie. does leave a bunch of plot holes tho.

For the people complaining about the plot holes or unanswered questions about space jockeys/aliens they should download the alien comics torrent and take a read through. Then you’d understand why this movie could not possibly address everything. I don’t believe Prometheus was supposed to be a ‘‘connect all’’ to the alien universe nor should it be expected to be as such.

Highly recommend the comics. Some pretty interesting stories in there with Space Jockeys, Newt, and types of aliens, i.e.; gigantic whale aliens, SJ hybrid, worms, etc

After seeing Prometheus, I stand by my earlier statement.

[details=Spoiler]E3 Xbox Press Conference

Probably one of them was infected and hatched a giant squid. I can’t remember but did all the bodies have their chest’s blown open?? The snakes came from the maggots/worms.

I’m wondering why nobody came to wake the sleeping Engineers in over 3000 years.

I went into this movie with high expectations and wasn’t disappointed. The movie does have its flaws (mostly David being the only interesting character), but overall it’s a pretty solid movie. Visuals were great and the acting was pretty solid. I liked the overall theme of creation and meaning of existence, and I feel like answering every question presented would kind of ruin that theme.

Overall, I thought it was pretty good. I’d see it again.
