Yeah, I was watching one of the sequels a few weeks ago and I just thought it was funny seeing everyone dressed like that. Why wouldn’t there be people dressed casually or like superheroes or like the Legion of Doom or whatever? That aspect in particular has aged horribly.
Yeah I knew I’d see the day when people started calling Matrix 1 ‘overrated.’ That movie still blew everyone’s minds in 1999 and was untouchable for years. Same thing will happen to today’s movies that get defended as vehemently as Matrix last decade. It’s already happening to Raimi Spider-Man.
think the problem was there shouldnt have been 3 matrix movies, I mean really who likes part 2? Everyone liked matrix 1 then 2 came out and it sucked and pretty much ruined it for everyone. Part 3 was meh.
Only purpose the sequels served was to retcon the ‘humans for unlimited energy’ thing. Everything else was a huge waste of money (though Animatrix was mostly really good).
EDIT: I’m starting to warm up to Artificial Intelligence, I like it better than Minority Report anyway.
I still know someone that wears a pair of those Neo shades
They really should not have made 2 and 3 together. I enjoyed 2 only because they used a lot of Rob Dougan
Well you say done to death, but it was the first to do bullet time and they did a superb job with the wire fu (cough crouching tiger cough). Like Taito pointed out, If people today had never seen it I think your point would be valid, but I’m assuming you are old enough to have seen in back in '99 when it was state of the art. I watched Hugo last night (horribly over hyped movie) it showed clips of the first motion pictures and I genuinely smiled as they played clips and talked about some of the techniques used.
Matrix was the first mainstream film I looked at in a philosophical fashion (I’ve always looked at Bruce Lee movies in this way). I really need to get a copy of GS and rewatch that, much like Akira I was way too young to understand that movie when I first saw it
Im seeing this on the first day despite the review it may get. Looks like a lot of fun and anything with ALIEN is #hype to me. But can anyone else picture this movie 5 years from now and it look like it was made in 1995? We’re progressing really fast
P.s. i dont see how the first ALIEN was scary? ._…
It’s the legacy behind the film as well. Back when it was made, we still didn’t know fuck all about Space. The alien was a fantastic creation as well, with NOTHING else in cinematic history coming close. The chestbuster scene is legendary, both in the actual events, and the story behind the cast and crew never knowing it would happen, and the reaction on film being GENIUNE. Then you have the alien. No puppet or miniature or claymation or terrible effect. This was a wonderful suit, designed by an evil genius.
Then you have the prospect. They’re stuck in space, weaponless for the most part, and as a movie goer, you really didnt comprehend what the Alien was capable of. Hell, most of the Alien mythology wasn’t known back then. The fact there was an android on the ship was a complete mindfuck.
Also, it showcased corporate greed on a mega scale, fantastically.
agreed. alien may seem dated now that you have these special effect extravaganzas nowadays, but it wasn’t that type of movie. the atmosphere it created not the action you see in later films was what made it a good movie.
Just want to correct you on the chestburster scene. Apparently it’s a common movie myth that the cast didn’t know the chestburster scene was going to happen. They did. What they didn’t know was the amount of blood that was going to be used. They weren’t expecting such a heavy amount of blood from the pump, so their reactions to the heavy amounts of blood were genuine. The other actress in that scene started going hysterical when a bunch of blood just squirted in her face. Sadly that was cut from the final version of the film.
