so in essence you’re saying that if 10+ people start showing up for 3s or ac, and people are waiting 15-30 mins for a match, you will still have 2 tv’s with jojo’s and power stone playing…
just seems like there may be quite a few ac players there tonight, which would be nice if there was an extra tv to accomodate like yosh was sayin.
Amen to that. The Variety Factor doesn’t even come into play when there’s more than 6 people wanting to play AC. Similar to what Jim said, If the Variety isn’t working then you should accomodate to the people that ARE there. Not the people that aren’t. People aren’t going to travel to Algonquin again to wait on games.
1 Match, Best of 5 Rounds? See, I have a slight problem with that because then you have no option of a character change and what if I wanted to adapt? I play several characters and I practice with all of them, not just one. If this is the case, I’ll just play Chun-Li in 3S.

My thing is…I was sorta playing the gatherings up to be an “on the fly” console-arcade. I’m not saying I WOULDN’T accomodate you guys to have another ^Core set up…I’m saying I’m going for random pulls first and allow that other choice for people…but if no one bites, then yes, I will switch it over to ^Core…I play by ear and adapt to whats happening mostly. I’m aiming for an decent amount of random folks interested in the genre itself…AND Team Chicago (& friends)
you also have to take into consideration that there’s 3 PS2’s and only 1 Dreamcast…so if that other PS2 is taken…that severly limits the choices others will have, since my dreamcast fighter collection is small (and since that other PS2 will have my hard drive in it)…unless everyone else wants to play CVS2, then it’s fine I guess…either way, I’m going to adapt to the situation as the night unfolds…2 of the same game is NOT out of the question…just not a “right away” thing…ya feel me?

This is the exact reason why people shy away from going to CAD. Chicago crew wants to practice for their target games (GG, 3S, Marvel) and also a clear reason why we’re so good in those games, GG especially.
And of course, people will come, expected to be accomodated for those target games.
If they aren’t, what exactly is the point of driving all the way to CAD? We could be doing the exact same thing at Prucha’s for NO $5 cover and guaranteed practice for said target games.
I’m in huge favor of supporting the fighting game scene in Chicago no matter where it is, but… you know, “it better be worth it”. That’s the best way I could put it… no offense intended. Just stating the reason why some of the more noticeable faces aren’t coming to CAD…
and my thing is…if they come, they will get those games played…so really, they just don’t care, or just can’t make it this far out. if they want their comp and know they can bring some peeps with them and then enjoy their time and spread the word (Like Jim has been doing…I can’t thank the kid enough) and then possibly get MORE peeps to come after that. if you want to see change, then BE the change you want to see, or stop bitching about the lack of centralized competition…hence another reason why I’m doing this. Also…why waste a trip to nickel city only to find the game(s) you want to play have busted sticks? I don’t like that kind of randomness, as it’s a trek for ANY of us to go there…so why not spend the gas on a place where you know things are gonna work because we all know our shit works…you know? No offense to Amar and Nickel City itself…but no one can really argue with that, I don’t think.
plus, I’m not looking to accomodate JUST you guys…I want to bring new faces here…which I’m working on during my own free time. if I only accomodated the hardcore, there would be no progress (which is part of my own personal theory as to why the scene fizzled the fuck out over the years)
Oh yeah, the cover charge is THREE dollars, not five. Only reason there is a charge is because I’m using someone elses place of business to do this, so there’s also that. I’m tryin’ to help a friend out here…I’m not recieving anything in return for my efforts (at least…nothing material)…I’m just doing it for the genre, and the fact that I like it and would like to see it thrive a little while longer…
