Well excccuuuuuuuse me, Jerk Tebbo! When you refer to Ryu’s Tatsu and just call it a Tatsu I’ll be sure to swoop in and say “NO! It’s called the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku! Get it right scrubs! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.”
Still at a loss for his VT. But, they could give him Hyper Bomb an EX throw and Stun Gun as his EX Spiral DDT. Boomerang Raid would make a really good CA (cinematic on the later hits like Karin’s), so I wouldn’t pen it as a V-Trigger. Logically, it should make his stun output ridiculous because that is something he’s built for, but any ki/energy installs like Ryu or Laura would feel out of character.
Spiral DDT need to be able to go over fireballs or something, move is beyond useless in 3S. Same with his d+fp in the air. DAS BOOT should be an unblockable instant kill.
Is chip damage dependant on the specific move or is it a customizable amount?
I could see his Power bomb removed if he had the ability to do huge chip damage on his normals like the aforementioned Boot. Something like heavies doing 40 chip and specials doing up to 70 chip could make him not need a command grab. He should have a good (read: 13 or 14f) overhead as a way to lock that grey damage, though.
Unreactable Overhead in a game where they’re making every overhead 20f+. Sure thing.
What’s interesting is a lot of his moves are already used by other characters. Air Stampede is Bison’s Headstomp. Air Knee Smash is Laura’s HP Elbow. Spiral DDT is Birdie’s leaping grab.
He might end up being a slower grappler that relies on unsafe specials to get around; take SFIV Zangief and swap out the Green Hand animation for Flash Chop. Air Knee instead of Lariat (and catches people jumping away). Maybe push Slash Elbow and Flash Chop into one move or make Slash Elbow an anti-fireball VS. His VT will probably have something to do with his backturned moves, perhaps letting him combo into backturned (which would probably count as a stagger state of some sort) and then throw you? I’d expect in that case for every special that caused backturn to eat up a huge amount of VT a la Cammy
Or they can just go the Killer Instinct/Street Fighter V route and reinvent his ass LOL. At minimum he’ll have some new shit because I’m sure Capcom knows it’s pretty much the World Grapple Tournament already.
It seems that there -are- charge characters, like Necalli? Or was I mistaken when I heard them say that? I’d there are charge characters now then I don’t think Alex’s two charge moves will be changed at all.
Anyways. Alex will be a beast in this game, unless they redesign and totally fuck him up. He’s a beast in 3S, he just doesn’t have the abusable hullshit of the top and high tier.
Not so fast though…
Remember. Ibuki has a super slow overhead in 3S. Yun and Yangs aren’t that fast either. Ryu’s and Akumas are slowish too. Remys is pathetically slow and does no damage. Alex’s overhead is a huge part of him, it almost has to be included. Yes it’s fast and does good damage and stun, but remember wake up game in V is almost non existent, so a move that was already NOT op will be even less effective. It will become a poke, which is how you can use it in 3S but rarely see that. Itll be decent, sort of like Giefs new headbutt but without armor. In fact making it do good damage/stun like in is a great idea because it’s not like he’s ever as threatening as Gief up close.
Alex needs it. And it’s not like he’s Dudley who can land insane combos off his fast overhead. It’s one hit, one powerful hit, but one hit none the less, and he’s still weaker than Ibuki Yang Ryu Akuma, characters with slower and weaker overheads. Alex needs it, and it’s not like he’s broken in 3S or even close.
Regarding “too many grappler hybrids”… You can’t take away Alex power bomb, it’s his main move. Oh well another grappler hybrid, they apparently like giving players command grabs, cool. I don’t think anything about Alex needs changed, he’s not broken in 3S far from it, he won’t be broken in 5. As is he would just be strong, which is what we ultimately want, a roster of strong characters.
Because at the end of the day, if you try to turn everyone into this Patsy low damage slow boring character, then you’re just going to give fast, high combo characters a huge advantage like we see in Ultra.
alex actually does need to be rethought since he has some moves which only have a purpose in a game with parry.
so those need to be reworked which in turn changes everything else.
nothing wrong with this. keep his spirit, personality, attitude, etc. in tact, the rest can/should be altered to fit that in a totally different system.
Also, he doesn’t need DDT. That move was pretty garbage and worked against nubs and in pure Yomi situations. Every other iteration of Alex had DDT removed. It worked okay with Hakan because of all the Option Selects.
I don’t know how he’ll play but so long as he’s got the Stomp, a GOOD rush super with multiple ways to confirm, a command grab with some range and damage and maybe good ok I for once, a buffed Flash Chop, and an overhead. Then I’m good. I don’t care if he’s low tier again, I’ll main this fucker.
I think it would be cool if Flash Chop reflected projectiles though.
Alex and Hulk Hogan… I know it’s legit but I really just don’t see it. I kinda see that they may have been inspired by him back in early planning but the end result is nothing like him.
There’s another wrestler that was the inspiration behind Alex other than Hogan. His name was Warrior-something but I forget his exact name. It’s not Ultimate Warrior. This guy has a similar face and war paint in the shoulders.
Edit: he was based on Mike Awesome AKA The Gladiator.
