Sucks that I use these mods (PS4). I really hope Capcom eventually releases Bomber Jacket Alex in a costume pack.

Well st/cr.LP and st.MP are all +2 on block so they work/beat 4 frame buttons but will lose to 3 framers.

Any ideas about the Vega matchup? It’s fucking stupid, he’s too fast to even get in on because his mobility shits all over you. His walkspeed/dash and also make it feel like he’s a better grappler with his fucking command grab than you are, really really stupid matchup, there’s really no way to succeed without taking huge risks, and despite what the Vega pissers might say, he does not have bad AA.

I started struggling with Vega last night. This matchup is no fun.

I just got my shit pushed in and I swear this Vega player used like 3 different normals to anti air me.

I’m hoping the timing on this is pretty strict and would be difficult to pull off in the middle of a match, otherwise how are you supposed to beat this?

This may effectively negate many of Alex’s setups… he doesn’t have a whole lot outside of these frame trap mixups.

You always just do the meaty. dash up power bomb is not real. Also if you smell this just do hk slash and hit them out of the backdash.

I’ll say it again, I think Alex needs mobility buffs. His dash is fucking ass and there’s this big dead zone beyond his poke range because there’s no real fear that he can just dash in and fucking grab you like everyone else. He doesn’t have the damage to have you really get scared of him closing in, and st.hk/chops are all slow enough (bar ex/lp chop) he can actually get punished for it. His throw has an irregular hard read oki game anyway (if it’s like this then how come he isn’t more mobile?), and he actually travels far enough where people can just slam a st. strong into a punish combo.

Elbow Slash is a “poke me” unsafe way of closing space outside of blockstrings/oki. Did having a decent dash break him with all his tools in 3s? No! And the stages in that game were much smaller in that game than in this one. I dunn geddit i dunn geddit

If I have to point to one thing that really kills him in certain matchups, it’s that he’s so slow for a pseudo-grappler a lot of the top tier (dun dun, all have great walk/dash speeds) so he doesn’t really have a strong advantage to push people to the corner unless they’re running into F+HP or something because they’re stupid.

Bronn - I like you so I’m not going to “Go off” but please, if anyone at this point wants to talk about what buffs he “needs”, take it to it’s own thread.

RE: Bullshit Option Select
Now this is where I’m starting to think that grapplers in general are going to fall off harder than they usually do (And they fall off pretty hard anyways).
Any time that something has the phrase “Option Select Block” it makes me unhappy. Other option selects have never really bothered me but option selecting block like that. Le sigh.

btw, some JP opinions are coming in (nemo tier list), he has Alex set at C tier along with FANG. sounds about right, they feel the same, having some weird fundamental design issues that hold the character back.

This is a general discussion forum for Alex. This covers all topics renegading Alex. No need to separate the two. People want to talk buffs, nerfs, mods, protalk, new tech, whatever, no need to make a topic for everything.

As far as Alex dash grab wakeup. It’s not even a real option vs anyone who knows it’s not safe thats not coming out of knee press…Always go meaty HK or Slash. will it hit? probably not…but it’s a ground check to keep opponents grounded with extra grey damage. And you may hit a panicky player, who knows?

I dont think Alex needs big changes to be amazing but not broken.
Just fix the reliability of his damn crouch hp. Always Juggle anti air if clean. ALWAYS please!
This is the biggest to me…it doesnt have to beat every jump in, but always juggle please if i get a damn clean hit…because it’s the best way to start his oki.

Also standing jab anti air doesnt auto correct like necalli’s it seems… why does necalli get a 3 frame auto correct aa jab AND a shoryuken and a decent crush counter anti air at range? But Alex’s is 4 frame and doesnt auto correct, and is limited in range imo?

Change overhead to down forward.

And either make his ex-slash armor on frame 1 or not so damn punishable… you always go deep, and it can be punished by lots of medium - heavy optimal combos…while Birdies armor start at frame 1 and although more minus on block adds pushback enough to not be punished as hard.

the -6 grab i can live with… it may be meticulous reasoning for that… f.hp tic grabs? Whatever.

On a different note, i never knew Alex c.hp had 3 different ranges… Which is nice for punishing certain whiff moves. The aa version for df.hp doesnt cause juggle on those pesky neutral jumpers most of the time…which is why i’m so adamant they fix those clean hits.

Would like them to change kkk to ppp just to not get accidental ex slash out…but whatever, not a game changer but i’ll be more careful then.

I still don’t get the mentality of it’s been 2 weeks! garbage, if you played the game enough from the beta, you know a characters weaknesses, or know the character will fall off because fundamentally strong characters dont have crazy setups like Birdie. While someone like Mika you know has potential with her v-trigger and irish whish resets from day 1… you just got to find it and work it all in.

Alex imo is more like Birdie, fundamentally strong but fundamentally flawed as well. But a bit weaker imo. There will be no crazy shenanigans to explore like Mika, Laura, or Ken, Ryu, Charlie etc all with much more things to figure out. The best anyone could hope for is get so good at matchup knowledge they parry punish everything and footsie and anti air much better, but that inherently doesn’t make a character stronger, it just make the player godlike with godlike reads and reactions and could probably do the same with any character. The best knowledge so far came from the Danke video of actually being positive from the HK knee. Everything else is just hard reads, honest footsies and on point anti airs, while trying not to get cornered.
