Nah. His AA’s are fine. St.lp stuffs nearly everything consistently, it’s down to you if you can’t use it. EX Knees also stuffs everything.

5f powerbomb/st.mp is dumb, his mixup from his 6f is just fine. What you would probably rather ask for is EX Powerbomb being Throw Invulnerable. I’m pretty certain it has no throw invuln at all, and if you’re looking for a defensive property to give Alex without it being something like 3f normals, I think this would be it.

Nah, if they gave him a better crossup they’d probably keep everything else about him the same. Not a bad complaint at all, but he’s never been about crossing people up, additionally he has a bags of tricks like stomp/headbutts he can do from a crossup, that’d get toxic real quick.

Yeah chop is ass, but I’m fine with it if it means they’ll buff other areas. It’s a last pixel sort of move.

better oki from powerbomb/stomp hitbox, nah they’re all fine. Stomp giving a HDK is a huge, huge reward, is probably one of the best moves in his moveset, a better hitbox might mean they move that. It’s fine, if anything it’s great for what it is.

Now here’s what Alex actually needs imo.
-HK Knees actually being able to grab someone neutral jumping from match start position. Very simple/sensical change.
Would also give his oki a slightly better boost by baiting a jump on wakeup, in fact that’s probably why it’s range is fucking terrible, they wanted to see how good his wakeup game was out in the wild. I really do think they’ll buff this.

-Better frames or damage on chop. If you compare 3s chop to SFV chop, in exchange for 2 more active frames (which is great!) and a lower arcing hit box (also great, in 3s it’d whiff on twins and other dumb shit), it’s lost ~50 damage, worse startup/recovery frames, and all are -4 on block. Two ways to go about it imo. You either give him back the damage, and all of a sudden his damage output on his basic hitconfirms give a much better reward. He’d probably break 300~ consistently on a successful jump in in addition to the oki EX Chop provides, that’d be great! He’d get a better reward out of most things in general. Or you give him back some of the old framedata the chops had and it’s utility goes up a bunch. He can chop more freely now that he can just block any jump ins. LP/MP/HP should also be about -2, -3, -4 on block, not really sure why they should be able to punish a LP Chop w/ a jab? I never use MP/HP chop outside of the mixup/DP punish too, just way too slow to use by itself.

-Better mobility. His dash is worse than 3s (17f -19f), but he does consistently get good +frames from his lights/st.mp, so this is really the only explanation I get for the nerf. But it’s still horrible, characters with good walkspeed (back walkspeed) DO NOT have to worry about this dude dashing in and throwing. In fact, his throw range seems low too, not Gief t-rex throw box, but low.
His walkspeed is also bad, FANG bad. With his lowered damage, “hard read” oki, and limited feeling throw game, what’s the point of walking being slow as molasses?

I’m not asking for everything altogether, but just obvious individual areas he needs help in. If he got back the ~50 damage from Chop he used to have, that’d probably be enough for him damage wise.

And I stopped reading there because I broke down the math for you with her frame data after a throw because you said “He can’t dash and throw or do t.HP unless he uses meter unlike his bros.”. I went by your rules but it’s fine, you can ignore that.

@Bronn - When I first looked through those statistics I laughed. R.Mika (The most “Dishonest” character in the game apparently) has a 49% win rate. Chun - 51%. Cammy - 48%. Fang - 52%. Yes we’re going to have bad match ups but you’re looking at the match ups from the first two weeks the character has been out. I’m not saying that won’t be useful eventually as a comparison for match ups but for now, when everyone and their dog jumped on Alex for a while because he was free and then realised they don’t like him and dropped him, I wouldn’t take those numbers seriously.
Oh, and I agree, Alex’s mix ups are based off hard reads. But isn’t that the life of a grappler in general?

I don’t know of many grapplers who also have low ass baby man damage though.

but that’s not actually my main complaint (although it is bullshit because he was never in that niche), my real complaint is his terrible ass mobility. the character was never designed to have these sorts of issues, he does now and for…what purpose? We got a great brawler who has great normals and high damage/stun, now let’s lower the damage, make him slower, and make nearly ever meterless oki options some sort of inane hard read situation

His pokes are still great, but the idea behind his design in 3s is his damage, that’s what at least let him compete over people who shat on his ground game. Now that’s gone, and now his mobility is worse because…??? Vega vs Alex is hilariously lopsided, Vega can just dance around and poke him to death because of his terrible dash and slow as molasses walkspeed, AND still compete because Alex needs to land a knee or EX Chop or MK elbow to even run a wakeup game, AND can trade forever because of the lower damage.

Alex doesn’t really have that sort of full meter burst Vega gets from his trigger/CA combo either, it’s pathetic. He needs to land a st.mp/hp or a CH poke into clothesline, frankly Vega can just dance around him all day calling Alex’s bluff, he’s too slow to dash in and throw him!

I’m sorry but this character feels pretty half-baked atm.

I feel that Alex has an advantage against Gief, Bison, and Laura. Those are the matchups I don’t have a problem with when playing Alex.

Karin feels pretty strongly in Alex’s favour, she can’t really beat him in the neutral.

Laura feels like a tug of war, neither can jump in on the other, both have good ways to call each other’s shit in neutral. It just really depends if you can get access to trigger to put you in the lead and end it. Since I’ve been looking for more ways to use FHP and s.HK the matchup’s gotten a bit fun. Still 50/50, I don’t really see how there’s anything Laura doesn’t have an answer for but also vice versa.

Bison’s a mixed bag because of his players, honestly I go for F+HP/Chop pressure exclusively and don’t even try going for the KD unless he gets tagged by EX Chop. Kinda reminds me of the Urien matchup, he kinda gets fucked by good Chops despite his high damage mid range, and the active frames on chop stop him from teleporting around. I need to tinker more but I think you’d be right in the end.

Karin idk, but chops also seem like the answer here, combined with your MK pokes and F+HP putting up a big wall of hitboxes for her to run into.

The thing about it is that I’ve had it happen online a few times but never in an offline session which makes me think rollback is a contributor to it happening.

I played against a Dhalsim earlier who seemed to know the match up really well and they baited out the Ex-Slash twice when I was trying to V-Reversal them. First time I was like “OK, you messed up and I messed up more, fine” and then they did it again. I’d like to say I was impressed but I was busy screaming “HOW DID YOU KNOW?!” at my screen.

I just got destroyed by Zangief. His V-Skill is a pain. I couldn’t press buttons without risking it getting Armored into SPD.

Yep, he completely kills anything you have that is single hit and moves you forward. F+HP/st.HK/any jump ins/etc etc.

And he’ll murder you when his oki game even off of a single LP SPD

Started a new CFN just to play ALEX exclusively without getting salty about my current LP. Starting to get the feel of him, but there is some issues i noticed.
Things i’d fix/change with Alex.

The crouch hp. Not saying it needs to be better frames or damage, but it needs to be more reliable. I hit that thing god knows how much and the juggle sometimes is wonky and they fall straight to the ground with no follow up. No trade or nothing. If i can land it, then let me follow up on it… Forward HP, slightly better hitbox on bottom for “petite” characters. It’s great, but man smaller characters whiffs a ton.

His ex slash elbow…Must it be 3 frames and severely punishable on block AND a charge move? Either give me 1 frame, or less punishable via less minus on block to where jabs punishes only and not medium based attacks kill him.

Ex stomp can at least have cross up properties?

Command grab? Why is the “grappler” 6 frame grab? Why is it not 5 like the other “grapplers”? All throws(5f?) beat Alex command grab…which is kind of dumb. It’s also not like there’s anything to follow up other than meaty slash elbow or standing hk…not much mixup going on there to anyone who isn’t a button masher…so it’s the 2nd best non ex grab range in the game, which isn’t nowhere near Giefs and not much more than other grab ranges… oh i can jab twice and still be in grab range vs the 1…okay it’s nice being able to command grab mixup after forward hp…but i think there’s only so much mileage before people figure out what im gonna do.

His overhead needs to change command input too imo… down forward rather than just forward…would like to jab walk a bit forward and s.mp without getting an accident OH.
Replace big boot V-Reversal with DDT f+ppp. Giving him back one of his signature skill and so you don’t accidentally ex slash on mistiming.

I know there will be elitist who will scoff at any changes, even something as simple as fixing the unreliable c.hp to always juggle or change the command input to his OH and go it’s only been 2 weeks! But he’s got issues man. No amount of time will change that…and imo the issues are minor but there and would help a long way.

With that said, the Danke tech video on how positive i am with the Knee Press got my Anti air game much better because to me that’s the best followup he has after a knockdown…otherwise it’s footsies all day, everyday…which i like, but i do want to get in and mix it up.

It doesn’t lead to anything… It resets neutral in so much that she can only get a meaty L-Shoulder or st/cr.HP after a command grab. Is very similar to the situation Alex has after Power Bomb.

And I’m pretty sure that most of the cast’s overheads are from f+MP/MK aren’t they?

Actually his v reversal is pretty awesome. If they block it’s only -2, if it hits he gets a free dash in st.mp/powerbomb mixup or if he hard reads a backtech that’s a free stomp (mk stomp for quickrise).

I advocated for DDT Vreversal, but honestly its current form is one of the best things going for him.

She can command dash in or crush counter, projectile you, crush sweep you…yeah she’s in neutral but she’s way closer with much more options than anything Alex has.

I dint say it sucks, but the input can cause issues…the ddt could have the same frame data.
