Well for that specific OS, or special move OS in general off a jump, you perform the special like a two in one off your jump kick. So the timing is similar to the timing you use to combo on the ground.
Alright, so right before the kick has contact right?
Depends how early you throw the kick I suppose, but the intention is to execute the special as the kick hits or would hit in the air. If the kick hits it keeps you airborn long enough to pass the input for the special. If it misses you land and then special. Just practice kicking the training dummy in the head and executing the tatsu. If your tatsu never comes out then you got it.
im having a similar problem with the shoryuken option select.
even when i land the punch as early as possible and input the srk motion,the shoryuken always comes out on hit or block.should i be using negative edge to make my
srk input even more faster?help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.
Do not double tap the SRK input. You should only have two button presses - one for the jump attack and one for the SRK.
I suspect the problem may be the extar input. After I tested the special will still execute if you double tap the button. However the single button for the special avoided this.
One thing that really annoys me is just how much easier it is to do the same OS with Ryu. You can press the kick a few frames earlier than you can with Akuma, so the kick + the input for the SRK don’t have to be squeezed so closely together. This is because Ryu’s active frames on his jHK, 7, are more than double that of Akuma who has only 3 (Akuma’s air normals overall are rather poor for this reason). If your kick whiffs because you pressed it too early because of this, your SRK will come out, even though Ryu is pressing his buttons with the same timing as you and doesn’t whiff the kick. Just another reason why Ryu is so god damn solid in this game.
Lol, I hear what you’r saying, but even with better normals overall many people consider Akuma to be the better character(I’d say he is for sure if you look at both of their match ups from top to bottom). If Akuma had the hitboxes and active frames on all of Ryu’s normals he’d undoubtedly be the best character in the game and just a little too good in my opinion. Akuma sacrifices health, the effectiveness of his normals and a slightly slower fireball(on start up) in favor of more damage, unparalleled mix ups and superior zoning versatility and turtle power. Can’t have it all
Interestingly as good as Ryu’s normals are overall his crouch fierce is not nearly as good as Akuma’s as an AA.
Plus the only two normal of Ryu’s I really want as Akuma is his crouch forward and his jump roundhouse. Even one would be good enough for me.
Still though, 3 frames for air normals is almost not workable. The average air normal is 5, maybe 6. The only air normals Akuma has that reach these numbers are his lights, and that’s sad. Viper can get the best of Akuma if he isn’t extremely careful and uses the exact correct move at the correct time - even if he anticipates a SJC launch. Chun basically tags him out of the air for free if she’s in range.
I understand that Akuma can’t be equal to Ryu in all counts on top of having all of his existing options, but if Akuma ever had a weakness in SFIV, this is it. Also I’ll take Ryu’s crMK.

What is a good option select against Hondas who do wake up heabutt/ex headbutt and ex sbk chuns and ex seismo vipers? I hate eating honda chip after I do the exploding heart technique. Would safe jump hk/df kick to EX shoryu work? Or how about normal shoryu?
J.hp os srk ex will tag honda out of any headbutt he tries. As for chun not too sure, I usually stick with demon flip kick as it usually stuffs it if it’s placed properly. I would assume j.hk os srk ex would work for her as well
DF kick beats EX SBK in the right position.
For EX seismo you could DF palm OS SRK, I think.

I hardly ever have problems stuffing chun’s SBK with a DF divekick.
I’ll have to try the j.hp os srk on honda… that’s one thing that’s been keeping me from getting in his face.
This kind of OS works with all chaining normals, and c.lk s.hk~s.lk is just one example of making use of chains. I do this a lot with chun li, where I do c.lk c.hk~mk~lk. This OS lets the sweep come out if they backdashed my first c.lk and gives me 4 inputs so that I can hit confirm EX legs on hit. So if you look at the frame data, you can create OS’s like these for any chaining normal moves and putting ANYTHING in between them. Something ridiculous like c.lk DF~c.lk would work if you wanted to.
Also, for the OS vs. Honda EX headbutt, HP srk and EX srk should work so long as your timing is correct. This OS works great vs. a lot of characters as well, including chun, so you don’t have to always demonflip vs. these guys and can mix it up.
If your first c.lk gets blocked wouldn’t you just get a two in one DF off the normal?
Disregard. I’m doing the OS inputs too early. Like WAY too early. I’m getting hit because the input succeeds as soon as I hit the ground, not giving my character enough time to block the reversal.
I’m having trouble with it. Hopefully y’all can help.
OS SRK: When they block it, the SRK doesn’t come out. When they back dash the SRK comes out, when I land without hitting the opponent, the SRK comes out. So I lose to reversals like Chun’s EX SRK. Am I doing the OS input too late, too early? I have no clue
OS Sweep: Same deal. I watched LoyalSol’s video and I’m confused by the input. on the video it’s listed as:
HK, HK + db HOLD
So I’m inputting HK for the safe jump, and then doing the sweep during the block stun. When blocked the sweep doesn’t come out, when back dashing the sweep comes out, and during reversal, it comes out so I lose.
This is mainly why I have such a hard time against these chars. Add on turtle and it’s tougher getting in … :(.
I seriously need to add OS to my game but can’t seem to get plinking down. I understand the concept and inputs but can’t seem to get it period. Any tips is appreciated, starting with lp~lk tatsu or 3x lp~lk tatsu . I know that if I can get this down my akuma would go up a level plus.
