Late j.MK True Cross up

Against Gouken

Dash x2

J.HK = Fake Cross up
J.MK = Real Cross up
Sadly j.HK doesn’t whiff against Goukens counter.

Against Seth j.MK can fake but I need a consistent set up.

Against T-Hawk j.HP (This is not a typo) can fake cross up but have to find a consistent set up. It is about Dash c.MK timing.

Against Balrog j.MK fake cross up. Dash c.MK will give it. True cross up from this set up whiffs if blocked correctly. A frame slower set up may be perfect.

Excellent work Sol. I’ve added these to the list on the first post!

A couple more video demonstrations

Oh if you want a more convienent way to link the original post to the videos I made use the playlist I set up

Hey Loyal with the jump HK setups that hit behind them just test if they can stay neutral to make the HK whiff. I know the HK likes to whiff on neutral opponents in those scenarios.

Actually all the j.HK set ups I found because they hit a neutral opponent. I think I did show that in the videos I set up. You can double check any set ups I have posted, but the method I use to find them is basically controlling the dummy till I hit an opponent who doesn’t block and then I try to block it to see what happens. That’s also the main reason I haven’t found set ups against Gen and Guy because of their stupid wake up neutral trick.

Now the one thing I do want to check is if crouching would make it whiff. Obviously the j.MK set ups can still hit, but I wonder if some of the j.HK will whiff.

I will note that the late j.MK set ups can be auto corrected so it is important to know that they aren’t safe against mash happy opponents. Though generally the fake cross ups and early set ups are safe from reversals.

Well if the J HK hits them on the first wake up frame they shouldn’t be able to duck it. As for auto correction I find that in the corners auto correct can be iffy so it’s probably not too dangerous.

It is only the late j.MK set ups (The ones that hit real low) that can be auto-corrected. Any cross up set up that hits the first wake up frame is safe for the most part. I think if you keep your opponent guessing it won’t be too big of a deal, but it is important to know anways.

There might be one or two set ups which are a frame late where the opponent might be able to duck. I will have to run through them to make sure.

Out of the characters I have tested here are the ones I have had no luck with and why that is

E.Honda:
Honda seems to have the most “normal” hit boxes in the game. What looks like a cross up is a cross up and what looks like it isn’t a cross up isn’t.

Bison:
Almost everyone set up I have found is always blockable. I am not sure if a set up can be found.

Blanka:
I had a fake cross up back in AE for Blanka which was Dash x2, but I can’t seem to replicate it in 2012. j.HK can fake cross up, but I am thinking it was a frame perfect set up in AE.

Rose:
I know this is possible because of Tokido at CEO against Sabin. I just need to find a corrected set up. Previously j.HK would cross up after Dash c.LK x2

Gen and Guy:
Wake up neutral, annoying beyond all belief

Yun:
As much as you would think his hit boxes are identical to Yang’s they aren’t. Need to explore this more

Elf:
I haven’t spent much time on him because his armor dash makes it hard to make any set up work. Will come back to later if I get a chance.

Vega:
Off a throw I haven’t found any crazy cross ups, but off a sweep and jab SRK you can do the j.LK set up which has to be blocked cross up and puts you on the wrong side. Basically Vega has to block cross up and then standard quickly to avoid damage.

Adon, Dhalsim and Cody:

Nothing interesting found just yet. Fairly normal hit boxes.

Dudley:

Haven’t worked much on his because of his counter move. Will return after some time.

Maybe try the neutral jump air fireball on the oddball characters for wake up pressure setups? This way you force them to block and then you can try to 50/50 them circumventing the strange wake up hitboxes.

LoyalSol —> For Dictator, throw > dash > stand MP > jump MK works like a fake crossup for me.

For Blanka, throw > dash > cr.LK > jump MK is a fake crossup too, but I don’t think this setup works with jump HK. Unfortunaly, reversal electricity beats it, but you beat clean reversal rolling.

I was able to reproduce your result against Bison. Seems like the timin is very strict compared to many of the set ups.

The problem with a lot of Blanka set ups is they whiff on a neutral Blanka. The j.HK set up I used to have was one that hit no matter what.

New set ups so far

Ok so right now here is where I am at.

FAKE CROSS UP KNOWN, BUT CONSISTENT SET UP NEEDED
Rose
T-Hawk

So only 7 characters are truly free from being mixed up right now.

What’s the classic unblockable again? Classic unblockable - > j.mk in corner vs Ryu, Ken, etc is what notation again?

The replacement for Dash x2. There are two current forms

c.LK > c.MK

But to be honest I have come to believe that the set up

Dash > c.MP

Will give you the unblockable just fine. I can hit with very good consistency. I think the unblockable is more about position than timing. I actually just to see went back to Super SF4 and tried the Dash s.MP and was hitting the unblockable just fine so I think my set up is the better replacement.

The Dash> c.MP is rather consistent. Even easier for me is the Dash c.LK… I dont see why anyone would prefer Dash c.LK> c.mk

There’s no dash in the cr.mk, cr.lk setup (20+14=34 frames).

Dash, cr.lk = 32 total frames (18+14), the attack Will whiff if done frame perfectly. Dash > cr.mp = 33 frames, if I’m not mistaken this would work if you’re not doing the setup frame perfectly (i.e there’s a frame delay), but at least even if you did it as fast as possible it’ll not whiff which is good.

Actually here is where I think people have a misconception. I am actually finding the classic unblockables are not frame perfect set ups as previously believed. It has to do with where you hit the opponent. I’ve found by doing the Dash c.MP set up and timing the MK so I hit high on Ryu I can get it 95% of the time.

It is the set up I am going to be using because it is easier and also can be done from further away.

I’m really OCD about these things lol, can you please do an unblockable vs Ryu with the dash whiff cr.mp setup then try it on Guile and see if you can block his flash kick in time?

I did the setup with dash > cr.mp that was a successful unblockable on Ryu, then played that setup vs:

Guile: Couldn’t block his 4f flash kick in time
Fei: Was able to block his 5f flame kick in time

I played the setup near the corner to make sure that Akuma will be close enough after 1 dash to jump in on the reversal’s first active frame.

Which leads me to believe the setup was done in 34f instead of the fastest possible 33f which is safe vs 4f reversals. It seems to me like both timing the setup and doing the jump-in at the right height are strict to pull the unblockable off, I could be wrong about this, so if anyone else checked this, please let me know what you got.

I found one set up where the unblockable worked against Ryu and it also worked against Ibuki. The attack timing on the actual jump in seems to make a difference.

Are we only looking for “corner” setups/unblockables?? If not, I may have an “unconfirmed” (well, at least I haven’t seen it yet in the list) setup against Blanka off fwd throw anywhere mid screen:

fwd Throw, Dash x 2, j.HK (meaty)

Beats reversal ball/upball. I haven’t tested it against electricity or ultra/super.

Nah any set up is helpful. I am just focusing on Corner set ups.
