Nope anywhere. Can be timed to beat revsersal SBK.
How do you time it? late or early dive kick?
Ok guys here is my video showing you can still hit the unblockable against Shotos and Makoto. It is just going to take some practice.

I don’t know how to describe the timing other than right above her head.
Okay thanks for the help. Also for the ryu matchup, I have very few safe mixups. After a forward throw I can only dash x 2 cross up tatsu. Is there any other setup other than that which is safe on ryu?
Exploding Heart into x-up tatsu is NOT safe against Ryu… He can delay his DP on wakeup which will auto-correct and snuff out your x-up tatsu. Worse, if he has U1 stocked, he can LP SRK, FADC U1 for ridiculous damage!!
It is however a good tool to use if your opponent likes to mash reversal SRK on wakeup. You can also catch turtle Ryu that like to sit back and block all the time with it.
Also about exploding heart, Any good ryu that I play now can actually react to the tatsu. It sucks, and they are doing cr.mk on wakeup to avoid the tatsu and get a free punish.
Doesn’t mean don’t do it though, just stay solid.
Thanks for all your work Sol. You scored me some wins at Central Texas Brawl.
Can someone really react to a properly spaced x-up tatsu? That thing is so ambiguous I see it being landed all the time in high level play, whether done by Akuma, Ken or Ryu.
Cr.mk on wakeup means free j.hk or DF dive kick combo so it’s a pretty big risk the Ryu player has to take.
Ya sorry if this is a more match up specific question than set up, but what do you typically do after exploding heart against ryu. I’m at a huge loss and I cant test stuff out in the lab cause I’m in school now.
Against the stronger Ryus I play they simply (sometimes) take an educated guess. You’re right in that sometimes I’ll bait it with a j.mk/hk or even a dive kick but if I go for the tatsu and they duck it with c.mk, the end results can be nasty. Thing is, we can also do it to them. Just Akuma isn’t exactly geared to take risks though a c.mk (whiff cross tatsu) > demon against Ryu is pretty sweet.
You’ve just plain gotta mix-up your approach for Akuma’s options to start becoming effective. Problem is that feeling opponent tendencies and responses out can become costly - testing something for a bad result can often result in 1/4 - 1/3 Akuma’s life.
On Guy f.throw, cr.mp in corner, early j.lk is a fake cross and j.mk is a real cross. The timing for j.lk is strict but hey it works.
I know someone asked but is there any footage of the shoto stuffing setup? I know its fwd throw > dash > walk a little > HK df but Im having some inconsistencies with it or straight getting DP’d.
Ibuki,Demon flip throw into corner, whiff close fierce punch, demon flip throw. All reversals whiff.
Note:After the first demon flip throw you have to be close enouigh for a lk demon flip throw version to land
You can do similar setup if you do hk demon empty palm after fierce dp, and if they don’t quick rise ex df delayed dive kick hits behind but has to be blocked regular and causes all dps to whiff. Try it out, its not unblockable but still dirty.
^^ also works in corner. Nice
Found a nifty little OS against Fei Long. Do a any safejump setup and OS up-back. If he does flame kick, youre still in landing frames and can’t jump but you’ll still be able to block and if he chicken wings you’ll jump out and land right next to him for a big punish.
i have a question, how do you guys practice unblockables and safe jump set ups in training mode ? do you do it yourself, or have a mate control the dummy ?
Set up yourself up as the other character and the dummy as Akuma. Set to record and practice. Play back to see if you got it right.
I never knew this but you can legitimately OS after cross up tatsu. I’ve been using mostly U1 to catch reversal escapes but it’ll catch backdashes too.
Edit: Just played around with it, OS srk into it and it’ll catch Ryus cr.mk if he tries to use that to make tatsu whiff.
I knew that and it’s great for catching slow backdashes, but the problem is that x-up tatsu’s hitbox isn’t exactly great and whiffs often vs crouching opponents (even without cr.mk) which makes the OS SRK comeout anyway and you can say good bye to a good chunk of Akuma’s HP.
You whiff a tatsu you’ll get punished hard regardless. I’d much rather risk OS srk and if I have the meter, fadc it.
