AE Matchup Discussion: Evil Ryu, Fei Long, Gen, Gouken, Guile

Gen is good cuz he has good normals like blanka! I don’t know if it’s even but i can agree with it considering i don’t play top level gens a lot.

I’ve been playing the Fei vs. Blanka match from the other side, and I really have way less respect for Fei players who lose to me now.

My fei has zero setups or option selects yet, and I can’t punish ball well yet, but the matchup still feels really easy and I’m not playing a bad Blanka player to test this.

Blanka is free for Fei, look like a 7-3 in AE.

The jump forward MP of Fei beat all AA of Blanka, and rekka punish a lot of pokes unsafes, and whiff pokes too.

Crouch MP and crouch HP are so good, and beat all normals of Blanka, and when you are in the corner, you’re dead, one rekka = you’re in the corner.

right now other than playing footsie with Fei Long which is already retardedly hard since his normals are so freaking good, that and his rekkas owns you…
LP balling for either mixup or safe ball is really my only other go to strategy…
you definitely can’t blindly jump at him
if Fei likes chicken wing… to get in… it means you can also consider FA a bit…

if he’s hitting you on your LP ball landing… it means stuff like MP ball will probably hit him… if he tries the same attempt
if he’s interupting your LP ball when you’re still in the air because it’s too slow… they can probably do the same against your MP ball but they’ll definitely get hit by EX/HP ball in worst case scenario you guys might trade but it’s still definitely in your favor.

try not to get cornered… and if you do… you’re gonna be blocking for quite awhile until you find a good opportunity to either

  1. out footsie him with c.HK and get out of the corner
  2. manage to do a ex.rainbow out when he’s trying to jump in at you or during his recovery of something else.
  3. look to punish him with far jab into electricity or ball -> FA -> whatever…

if Fei knows what he’s doing… this should be a pretty uphill battle for you…

you might wanna test out how good he is at punishing with MP ball on block, LP non-safe ball and LP safe ball (just to see what he does)

if he can’t punish MP ball on block… you should abuse it.

Fei for me is maybe the worse match up in AE.

I gave up the MU vs Fei! its just not winable without the fei player being realy bad!
He is even worth than Cammy and Boxer!
when I know my opponent is playing him, I switch to dictator

Dicta is not really good against Fei.

Guile, and maybe Chun are good against Fei.

yeah guile is hard counter but I dont like his style!
I think dic/fei is 5:5 and that is waaaay better than 7:3 (8:2 IMO)

I know a great dic, and for him, Fei cream dic, it’s better than Blanka but not easy.

Would Vega be better against Fei? I can’t decide if Fei or Cammy is a worse matchup. I lean to Cammy being worse.

it’s my feeling but Fei is the worse match up in AE, Blanka can basically do nothing against him.

Vega is bad matchup for fei. Recall mago saying this and picking yang against Tatsu. More i’ve played good cammy’s the more i think the matchup is not as bad. She doesn’t have better mid ranged normals, she cant’ dive kick as easily and you can AA it now. I think that’s somewhat in her favor but nothing close to 7-3. I think for me it goes Fei, Balrog, everyone else.

Makoto, Dicta are very hard too.

I play a good Guile today, very patient and smart.

When i was in distance to slide a sonic boom on reaction, he was just doing NOTHING, no sonic boom, no normals, no dash, just watch me and wait for a random slide or anything… i was very impatient and do a lot of mistakes, any advices in this situation against a decent Guile ? Thanks.

If he’s not charging down you can try to focus to get some pressure. You can also throw out your own pokes.

While that sliding boom range is good for Blanka, slightly inside of it is good for Guile, so you want to hang out at that range and try to force him to the corner, or you want to bypass it and get closer.

You can’t be impatient vs. Guile, if it takes 30 seconds to walk him to the corner or to make him throw a bad boom, thats how long you need to wait.

It was very frustrating, i was eating a lot of flash kick in my pokes (i was used a lot 2MP and 2HP at good distances) and in my focus too.

This match up need a very precise distance like you said, if the Guile don’t walk in the corner by himself, and if he don’t do a mistakes and have a good defense, it can be very hard, or it’s just me.

Nothing new here just trying to maximize damage and throw opportunities. Working on my kara throw setups on Guile and got this hit confirmable mixup down. Crossover j mk >cl mp > lp > hp elec if jumpin gets blocked either block to punish a reversal attempt or do kara throw after cl mp. The combo does great damage and even if blocked you can keep the pressure on with lp > elec or a walk forward into kara throw. Couldn’t find that list of who all that combo can work on though.

I will pay attention to that next time… because it’s pretty much the combo i use most of the time… and even if the electricity whiffs… it’s still not completely unsafe due to the electricity hitting them sometimes if they retaliate.

I try to find some solutions vs Fei.

Against Rekka pressure : Like Lau-HK told me, the neutral jump HK is very good here, and maybe the coward crouch wich make whiff rekkas, and you cancel with elec, but i don’t know if it’s a reliable method on reaction, it’s just assumptions here.

His overhead leave him at -4 so Blanka can punish that.

Footsies : Blanka should not use his 2HP because Fei can punish this normal very easily, just with a rekka, normal or ex, so do not use 2HP vs Fei, even at max range because if Fei do a reversal rekka, even if it’s on block, you’re on a disadvantage position, also the sweep is punishable in the same way.
The far standing HP is good i think, because it beat Fei’s normals like 2HP or 2MP at good range and this normal is safe vs Fei, he can’t punish with rekka for instance, but he can punish this normal with his super.

His jump forward MP trade will all of your AA on the ground so do a neutral jump HP to beat him if you don’t have ex.

Ambiguous cross up with HP after a backtrhow is useful here.

His reversal is 5 frames so safe jump.

The goal is to not fall on the ground because Fei can punish Ex upball on hit without ex, just with a rekka (ah ah), and stay off the corner.

Elec have good priority against his chicken wings, and the stand HK is good well timed.

It’s all about footsies but a big advantage for Fei clearly, i hop this match up will become more easy in 2012 version.
