AE 2013 Gouken 'Request List

i agree with you that normal tatsu should not hit low but i could go either way on the EX version. i would hate to see gouken become just like the majority of characters in this game. he’s like one of the few (imo) that you can get creative with in many situations because of his weird options that aren’t that good at face value but in weird resets/wacky situation prove for some interesting gameplay.

as far as how you responded to the other poster, if you ask him to be more respectable and considerate of others opinions but are disrespectful in saying so at the same time, nothing is going to change. i should know, i’m naturally an asshole and it never works well.

im sticking with this old fucker either way… Fuck it.

While it’s easy to skew it when you look at just the downsides he has versus his good sides, he is still kind of meh overall. He has such a surprisingly unique design for what people would expect to be a shoto clone, and yet it seems like his kit is hard to balance with how hard he hits and his good zoning.

But yeah, I think the best buff you could give gouken would just make tatsu hit low, even if it was just ex. Like iamthatiam mentioned, you already take a huge risk if you wanna get the good damage, or you can fadc it to be safe and get like, the 60 or so damage, since its not 1 or 2 hits like most dps…

Me too!!! I love the fucking useless old man anyways… Hahahahahahh this is fucking ridiculous, its like a 13 year old kid in love!!! Hahahahajahha

Ok, so I had this experience last night and I wanted to share this to you guys trying to conribute the overall context of this thread.

I’m a very mediocre player so take what I will say with a grain of salt.

I don’t play a LOT of fighting games but I watch a lot and read a lot, you can say that I am an informed person about the FGC overall.

So yesterday I was upset with some RL stuff and then I created a lobby to do some random ranked matches.

I decided that I would be picking only high tiers.

Now a little background: When I started playing Vanilla I picked Abel right away. I fight Judo and I fell in love with this character instantly.

I always played Gouken as a secondary char because I liked his style and design but I only started to really main him after AE 2012. I had problems with Abel’s 1-frame link, which is the base for all his game, so I kina gave up on him.

I only picked hard to master characters. Now that I think about it, it’s not because I like to be the underdog, but I was kinda sick of shotos and shotos alike which make the list of high tiers in every SF game, but to me this last part is just a coincidence.

Which means I never learned a high tier character. Never.

And then, I picked up Ryu.

I just know some very very basic combos, and I know them because people do them to me over and over.

And lo and behold, I was winning.

Sometimes I went the whole round without shooting a single fireball, only normals and shoryuken required!

More than once a 20k+ player would enter the lobby and it would be a close call!

Ryu’s normals are insanely good! Ryu’s specials are insanely good! Ryu’s ultras are insanely good!

I didn’t knew what I was doing, and I was either winning, or very close to it, without breaking a sweat!

Then I did the same with Sagat, Ken, Gouki. Same results!

I was playing and thinking “OMG what difference does it make when you have a 3/4 frame invincible reversal, eh?”

Where am I getting at?

I see people talking cautiously about some buffs that would make Gouken “too good”. And I need to disagree.

Gouken is not only “hard to master” and “high risk, high reward”. Gouken is broken as a character, he is BROKEN. He needs FIXING.

To me those “buffs” (tatsu hitting crouchers, kongo not losing to armor break, faster EX Senkugoshoha) are not buffs, they are fixes!

It’s not fair that I lose, not because my character is harder to play with, but because he has DEFECTS in design that prevents me to be optimal.

Well, if you all think it is realistic enough for Capcom to approves such changes. So be it. I think we just need to stands together and agrees on a few crucial changes. Only when our opinion seem unison enough would Capcom takes our suggestion with the seriousness it deserves.

So let’s finalizes a few simple thing we REALLY wants.

• All Tatsu should hit low.
• Kongo returns to Vanilla two zone
• Give Gouken a non-charge 2 hits fireball (EX, red fireball, whatever)
• Better fireball invulnerability on palm

Sound about right?

EX version hitting low is quite simply the simplest method of making his wakeup less free. it gets compared to Rufus a lot though though it wouldn’t even be as good as his, he gets to see what happens before he evens knows if he has to FADC or not. Problems might arise from this one, but then I remember Adon has Jagga kicks and I don’t mind at all :3)

Yeah, I dislike the “Give him a DP, Links from jabs, better backdash” suggestions because of similar hatred, though I totally get that all those would indeed make him better. I just really feel that he could get there by enhancing the tools he has already, not copy pasting Shoto standards.

I know, but it just felt funnier. Wait, did I ask Clim to be more considerate or respecting? I don’t think that was were I was going with that at all :3

With better projectile invinicbility on palms, I’d rather see c.MP combo into LP(forward movement slightly or improved hitbox to get it there?) To give Gouken his version of Shoto c.MK xx Fireball(and replace the ability of having a 2 hit non charge fireball). Our Hadou is way to good on hit and block to be that way and being able to that as a simple distance punish/blockstring might prove more powerful vs Focus spam and be a nice footsie boost.

Then again Id really like to have a 2 hit fireball vs focus spammers, crap, now I want both :3

fuck yeaaahh, you nailed it buddy, i always said that, he should had it since day 1…

A good offensive reversal isnt a shoto standard, it’s an everybody but Gouken standard…

:o

I think they made a genuine attempt to fix Gouken and what it was that they had too many good ideas and it ended up being and entirely different character and they made Oni.

Think about it why does Oni need that special air dash he has? It means nothing to him. It would mean the world to a Gouken if he could air dash after missing tatsumaki.

his air dash is really good. It means that even if you see Oni jump, you can’t know for sure that he will gravitate downwards like a normal jump.

I think I read this on the unity forums… thought it would be very fun to see.

Ground Tatsu has no “recovery”, as you fall you are in a jump falling state. Come down on em with the ol’ karate chop of doom or air tatsu away or command dive kick.

Toof, you should totally make a video of that if you can

Fun, but good players would just walk under and punish from behind.
I do think it fun, but maybe while allowing one action(its more neutral jump state so I would say no vs tenmakujinkyaku) still have more than regular jump recovery upon landing.
No wait, as long as the move remains a horrible reversal let MK and HK(not EX, heck maybe just MK to give it purpose:#) come down as true neutral jumps and just for giggles allow us to followup with nj.HP as a juggle if it hits in the corner. As long as it isnt EX that would be fine and probably funny.

Pity its closed now, no more submissions :frowning:

Ya, note that I said “fun” and not “good”

He has the airdash so he can air tatsu after… I might have been the first to post that tech in the oni threads iirc lol

I should have also mentioned 0 recovery always on air parry :stuck_out_tongue:

Itll never be better than 4 :stuck_out_tongue:

How do you think we did collectively???
