Yeah hah i just need to stop being so lazy.
Here’s a trick I like to use a lot.
I like to whiff crouching strong sometimes and buffer his dash punch. If they try to attack you, crouching strong hits, you get dash punch, if they don’t do anything, it misses, you don’t get anything. It’s very good when you use crouching light punch for advantage and then walk back. If you have super, you can super after dash punch hits.
My Tricks-
Purposely whiffing dash low straight, then following with ex headbutt. and i only use it if i have a huge lead or my opponent is way ahead on life.
Ambiguous crossups on non-shoryuken chars, or against shoryuken chars who dont go for reversals on wakeup. Works well on abel, bison, and other rogs in my experience (and vega… but who needs help beating vega? :P)
If i have an ultra metre and around half screen away against projectile characters, I will on some occasions at most opportunities focus absorb a fireball then go for ultra on the expectation that they will throw out another fireball.
as stated in one of the other threads this involves the following:
- having your back charge
- focus Absorb the fireball then doing F, F, B, F + PPP.
this doesnt always work but you catch fireball characters off-guard with this. This is considered a hisk risk high return move
Here’s a cool trick I figured out today:
Jumping strong takes out the airplane wing at the airbase.
Headbutt, EX Headbutt, Super, Ultra, and none of his other normals are capable of this.
This is a pretty cool trick to take out the wing faster than your Shoryuken-ing friends.

can you safe jump in against a sagats dp? wondering for both ex and normal lp, mp, and hp versions
I thought Rufus also gets hit by far s.LP when crouching. Though I might have remembered incorrectly…
What i do sometimes to screw someone’s mind up is:
c.lp > c.lp x dash upper ex > c.lp > c.lp then suprise them with a sudden overhead dash >c.lk > buffalo head > ultra
They expect a headbutt or something after the 4th c.lp so the overhead suprises them.
SUDDEN overhead dash. I like that one.
No but a common trick is to make it seem like they can punish your jump in while in reality you land and block just in time
It’s all about Rush Overhead, c. LK/c. MP to another Rush Overhead, so much comedy, so much pain
Yes, sagat’s uppercut is safe jumpable. It comes out a few frames slower than ryu’s. I have a few safe jump setups against him that work well with rog and fuerte.
One question about the ambiguous crossup…
I tried to do it and it doesnt seem that hard to see which side to block. For most characters, I jsut end up on the opposite side when they wake up and they can just block it by blocking the other way. I cant seem to mix up the sides.
I like to do the ex loop once then do one c.lp and throw. Imo its harder to react to. Against people who fight know how to fight balrog, they probly seen the overhead reset a million times and would be ready for it.
The new Balrog trick is from Ronstoppable. Ive seen him do this and I thought it was amazing. So you do an ultra and of course it pushes them to the corner. After the final uppercut blow you should release the turn punch early so you cross up and after that do the Jab headbutt right before your opponent gets up. It will look like your headbutt crosses to the other side but when Balrog comes down he lands back in front of you for an awesome mix up! ENJOY!
wow thats pretty sick actually. good stuff keno and ronstoppable!
Great stuff! Going to give that a try later.
Thanks for the great trick! Guess I’ll bring up something that wasn’t obvious to me in the post, but if you do the headbutt slightly early while they’re still laying on the ground you will cross over the other side as well.
this trick is from crackfiend video i watched, it involves a way to use crouching mk as a meaty.
whiff lp dash straight on after a long knockdown(like a headbutt throw) and then throw out a meaty cr. mk… time the lp dash straight however you like…just make sure it whiffs and you have enough time to do a cr.mk
after the cr. mk, you can do whatever you want… like comboing/block string into cr.lp/cr. lk xx dash straight/ headbutt(make sure you hit confirm if you’re doing a headbutt)
also obviously be careful about using meaties if the opponent has ultra/super…
interesting trick, i guess it plays on the thing on a podcast/youtube where someone mentioned ed ma?!? doing ultra > TP then FP headbutt to cross up and the back throw to put the guy back in the corner. Do that once then the lp headbutt for super mind games lol.
low forward meaty is pretty old. oh and the reason you use low forward as a meaty is because its like +3 or 4 on block
