Adon FAQ's Thread: Quick Questions & Answers!

you’re inputting the kick too early most likely. you gotta give him a bit to get off the ground.

if you’re too far to hit confirm into LK RJ, use EX RJ.

Are his frame traps
cr.lk > cr.mp
cr.lp > cr.mp
cr.lp > st.mk
cr.lk > st.mk
with a potential throw in between the two?

tried that, the only thing that comes out is a j.hk everytime i try it.

Also Tim Tim those are linkable (as well as st.mk if your close enough) but with the right timing you can make it a 1 or 2 frame trap. If you can master timing for those links to combo you can do cr.mk instead since its 6 frame startup giving you a one frame trap(2 if you mess up the timing a bit.

Well at maximum speed those are all 3 frames which is almost ideal. A 4 frame trap from cr.lp/lk to cr.mk is kinda risky given that plenty of cr.lk’s are 3 framers.

Crap, i just noticed i was looking at adv frames haha. Well if it was me, id go for (on block) crossup j.mk, 2lk, 2lp, 2lp, 5mp. Yes 5mp because of the hitbox vs the hurtable box. Its actually pretty damn good because there is no hurtable box around the fist that he punches with, so from the right distance it could be deadly especially on mash happy characters like Ryu and Seth. Even though im thinking of this frame trap now ill give it a shot in the lab pretty soon

It turns out it doesnt work on uppercuts, but then again you wont find much anti shoryus stuff at all

I find it so hard to link from his cr.lk, my timing must be way off. Sometimes I try to combo from rj which whiffs. I should never do it if they’re crouching right? I guess his footsie game can be played similar to Bison, but the links are so different.

Still looking to sub Fei/Adon/Yun. Or just drop Bison completely and use someone like Akuma/Gen (too much effort for them to be subs).

Im in the same boat as you jebop.

I’ve mained Gen since Vanilla, But I really want to switch to someone else. I was thinking Fei, but then I realised he still suffers against Guile (The bane of my SF existence) Whilst Adon doesn’t. I don’t really want to play Akuma, not a huge fan of the “Vortex” I like to just stick to safe jumps and shit. I love me some strong neutral games and footsies.

I do recommend Gen, though. Swiss Army Knife. Very fun with some boss normals.

Hey, what characters would be optimal to sub with Adon as a main. Cover his weaknesses?

Akuma is a nice sub for any character really. But it also depends on your play style. What do you want in a character?

Sagat against Honda , Gief , Hawk , Cody maybe Bison but there will always be the problem Akuma but you must like slow character.<br>

Ken subs well for Adon. If memory serves, according to the current community matchup/tier list, they have a combined 17 matchups that are 6-4 or better in their favor and no matchups below 5-5.

Although this is an Adon thread, hopefully people knowing Adons background in terms of archetype can help me with this question. I already posted this in the ae forums so im just going to copy and paste the question here<div><br></div><div><span style=“color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Helvetica, Arial; font-size: 12.727272033691406px; line-height: 17.27272605895996px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);”>Ive been maining Adon for a long time and its time for me to get a sub. Ive been playing around till i brought it down to 2 characters: E.Ryu and Yun. I know its not a question to most of you, but knowing that e ryu is footsie heavy with great damage output, while Yun is pressure heavy with high damage output, and knowing that Adon has footsies and pressure is what makes me lean toward them. But i cant just puck one. When i use one and say ok i choose you, ill see someone use the other or ill just think about it one day and say hmm well he has this, and so on. So i just need some to push me to one side. I would play both, but the amount of time I would have to put into 3 characters is just too much not to mention other fighters that I play. Id rather you guys say use e. ryu or yun and give me benefiting reasons why. So please help me choose</span><br></div>

Whats up guys.<div>I’m training for CEO this year, and picked up Adon as a secondary to combat any counterpicks.<div>Can anyone fill me in on some good mixups, corner setups, unblockables, etc that he has?</div><div>I skimmed through most of the threads, but didn’t have much luck.</div><div>Looking for the sick stuff lol</div></div>

Similar question to the person above me. Just picked up AE in december and looking to give Adon a try now. Are there any good recent guides for Adon? I’ve been looking around and haven’t seen anything that’s not older then 2 years.

I guess ill just give you an introduction. Adon is a mid-close range character. Most of the time your plan is to poke with attacks that are plus on hit from mid range to get in. Examples are fr.hk(+1 on hit i believe), fr.hp (+5 on hit), and cr.hp (+4 on hit). Fr.hp and cr.hp are good because they are plus on hit with good reach, meaning you can poke from far and get a little bit of distance in. Fr.hk is good because it does 120, 80 if your too far, and can stuff fa if close enough. Also it covers HUGE range, about a box and a have in training mode. Excellent poke. Your playing footsies with these until you get in more, where usually ill be use cr.mp and st.lk because I cancel into jaguar kick and get in much closer. When your in close range you would want to start with a couple shorts and jabs into rj (ex if your a bit far). Your fj.mk crosses up and nj.mk cancels into ajk. Iajk is important because of the wicked frame advantage on hit and block. Its really good for getting and for a knockdown and going for a setup. He also has his grounded jk which you want to you to keep your opponent from pushing you to the corner. You will want to make throw and knockdown setups so that you can get in with Adon easier. Usually meter is used to fadc your rj into ultra or mk. rj, or just make it safe if your mashing it. Jaguar tooth is only good for the ex version if they are in a corner and you know a fireball is coming. Otherwise you to use lk and mk version to bait. I would not recommend using hk jt because its 0 on hit so it has little use. Know the range of your jump in at max distance that is not too far to hit confirm into rj. If hit confirming from the ground you probably want to use lk version, otherwise I use the mk version, especially because the first hit does the most out of all versions. U1 is used mostly for fireball heavy characters like Akuma and Sagat. U1 is used in combos and and anti airs. You can get it off a ex jk (air and ground) if you hit your opponent in the air, and an ex jt in the corner. You can get the u2 off them too but it does 180 which… nothing. This is just the start. If you want more you should watch gamerbees games. He really knows what he’s doing with Adon

What’s Adon’s quickest punish for a blocked unsafe move?

Cr. Jab its 3 frames

This is a really late reply, but does Akuma make a nice sub for anyone. I need to learn to take pressure better and play defensive instead of rushing out of everything. I play Juri since I can do anything with her, but I hate charge/grappling characters to an extent. If they teach me something vital I would try to buckle down and learn them. I want a character who covers my Adon, but doesn’t play too much like him. I should just be Justin Wong and play Adon/Rufus! haha
