hmm i just re read your post making me edit mine hah i thought u were talking about another move. anyways what i do with close fierce is after i hit fierce i double tap fierce again with the motion of the rekka to make it come out. that might help? i dont know but its just a timing thing. if you can connect close mp to rekka its the same exact thing timing wise or to me at least. record some vids! we need more abel vids since there arent many at all haha.
down motion? what i meant was standing close hp(fierce?) xx rekka… i have no problems with executing launcher xx rekka and down mk xx rekka…

Hey Busta in that match against Shoo’s Balrog did you really need to play the waiting game for the whole last 30 seconds?
I otherwise enjoyed the match, its nice to see somebody using the rolls as much as I do.
What’s wrong with being patient? If Balrog rushes at Abel, Abel should have several options to handle it such as Ultra, EX COD, EX Throw, right?
well i didnt have to but it was too risky if i went in. i didnt have meter (only 1 stock) so i couldnt get the combo into ultra. plus i had the life lead and he had to come to be. also because he almost had full meter or at least 3 meters so playing up close could have been risky. i think it is important to be able to be patient with abel also. i mean abel is a rush down character but i really think that when you have the slightest life lead and against certain people you should sit on it and let them come to you. also its always important to have at least 2 ex meter’s when you have ultra.
edit: to crisium - yes abel does have a lot of answers but so does balrog. if i try to be aggressive he can catch me with an ex headbut to ultra. or ex dash punches or something like that. if he knocked me down then it couldve been his game. thats the thing there. i didnt have much life nor did he. i had to play it safe or else it couldve went wrong. also his jab’s come out in 3 frames. so you gotta watch out because his jabs beat a bunch of shit and free combo for him if he gets those jabs in.
hey bustabust first off lemme say u have an awesome abel, along with combofiend’s. i always lurk on here on SRK to read ur tips. but yesterday after reading all ur tips i actually and finally went back to A.I. (after a month of no sf4 action) and had a go with my abel again.
so imma actually make a post today (lol) ask/say a bunch of stuff to get tips from you and all other ABEL players out there…here goes…

although i won about 12 matches, i can honestly say that the ultra is what gave me the wins/saved me. about 60% of my matches ended up having to go into a 3rd round. i dont know how many times crossover mk into cr.FP launch into ULTRA had saved me.

i still cant roll into falling sky grab after launch. i read that ur supposed to roll immediately into grab after hearing the hit confirm of the 2nd hit of the elbow…but i just couldnt do it. no rolls came out at all…i think its just i have terrible timing. i missed so many opportunities yesterday!

its not such a big thing prolly for you but for me it was huge haha. i was finally able to do the standing F.MK into dash. the whole time i was just trying to dash after a neutral MK lol, but i read from u that u should just F+MK and tap forward again to initiate dash, and EUREKA! was able to create some nice block strings with it, i thnk i did it 3 in a row (blocked that is, i think i read it only combos twice if u hit) and finally into a tornado throw.

last but not least, majority of my matches yesterday was against boxer. this happened so many times so i wanna ask u how u would handle the situation. i jumped over/rolled away from boxer’s ultra a bunch of times…i EX rolled twice to catch up with boxer at the other side to punish him with a tornado. was that wasteful? is there a better way to catch up/punish?
also, after blocking a boxer’s ultra or super, whats the best way to punish? cuz i kno boxer is at least a down MK/sweep distance away from u if u block it and he has fast recovery (i think).
glad to hear you are using abel again. sadly combofiend has dropped abel long ago. anyways ill do my best to answer some of your questions.

ultra is why abel is good, you really should practice all the fadc into ultra combos. he has quite a few.

well what you can do is cr.fp into falling sky without roll. if you do it that way after the second hit you should have completed the motion and pressed the punch to do the falling sky. at least that way makes it easier for me. for the cr.fp roll falling sky, after the second hit roll, i mean if you do it too late the roll wont come out meaning you did not cancel fast enough since you do it RIGHT after the second hit from the cr.fp. also after you roll you can use fierce falling sky but against certain characters the timing is really strict or it doesnt work so use lp or mp if you want. oractice up and you will get it.

with the f+mk dash on hit you should either combo with close fierce (cancel first hit) into rekka or you can do cr.lp st.mp rekka or cr.lp st.fp rekka. on counter hit you can do cr.mp rekka fadc cr.fp ultra.

that is just your timing and you just need to practice it. do you double tap? it will probably help with combo’s/moves that require good timing.

okay for the ex roll twice thing. i would say it depends on the situation like how much life both players have, how much ex stocks both players have etc. after a blocked ultra against boxer you can do rekka fadc cr.fp ultra or if you dont have ultra you can combo into something else. the vid of me and shogo has me doing rekka fadc cr.fp roll falling sky. here is the link [media=youtube]C96PIu6BWYI[/media] and it is at 2:25. hope this helps you.

yeah the only advantage for rolling after launch before skygrab is to build a lil meter right? i’ll keep practicing though…prolly gonna go back to A.I. tm cuz its my last day of vacation before classes again.
and no, i dont double tap, ive never used that technique in my life cuz it kinda throws me off with the double pressing and all…but ill try it out anyways, see if it helps. i need to work on my reaction timing.
oh and that match was awesome, so now i kno rekka is fast enough to punish after blocked ultra from boxer.
LOL im always messing up rekka sometimes though cuz im always thinking in my head that u have to do 3 hcf+p when in reality the first hit is actually initiated with a qcf and the other 2 are ya know LMAO. so sometimes id be like WHY AINT MY REKKA COMING OUT or WHY ARENT THE OTHER 2 HITS COMING OUT?! hahaha.

I get my ass kicked last night, took me 4 continues to beat a ken and then he switched to honda and i lost 5 times(but then they’re too many close matches too, guess mentally im not that strong lol) gaga. I know that i can punish the flying headbutt thing with rekka and ultra but im still struggling 50-50 for the timing to get the reversal. Luckily that guy is someone from my guild so he taught me a few tips regarding honda’s and he told me to use more combos (yeah i still suck at combos, i usually just bait and punish and do dash mk into random stuff)
thanks for continuing to put up this abel information. i’ve only used abel the past 2 times i’ve headed over to denjin. actually, busta you were giving me advice during casuals at CR, on sunday. you were telling me to ultra against a blocked blanka ball. anyways, keep up the great work!
Anyone know why Combofiend dropped Abel for Rog? So many people use Rog at AI. So boring.
um i talked to combo fiend every now and then (pretty much when he goes to denjin) and he said that there were certain match ups where he didnt like them at all like the blanka and zangief. he played against justin wong’s blanka and said that he was over it. so then he switched to dhalsim and now uses balrog. sad because he was actually one of the guys that inspired me to use abel at the time. he also told me that balrog has everything he likes in a character. i mean thats how you should pick your main, you gotta be comfortable with him and like the properties he has. anyways lets go back on topic so if it doesnt belong here post somewhere else

Man i’m glad to see a good amount of abel players here. Oh yeah bust i got the rekka fadc c.fp down dude. And i acquired a few more tricks, i can honestly say i’ve gotten better since regionals. We gotta play again soon, maybe at the vid tourney? >:) Our last match was close.

Love these vids, especially busta’s. I played SF4-arcade in Seattle once for a few hours last summer and i played all abel. Really awesome addition to SF and its amazing to see him being played so well. Keep up the awesome videos. =)

i’ve been ninjaing this thread for a while now and i gotta say, Busta you got some mad skill. at first i was hesitant to use Abel but seeing as to what you can do, i have set a standard for myself to learn Abel and have decided to main him. i just enjoy the way he plays. i’ve been to AI a couple times during the opening hours but usually someone higher up there hands my ass to me, but hopefully i’m getting better. that being said, MORE VIDS PLEASE!
